Chaske is a Technomancer, he interprets the datastream as a fusion of webbing and drum beats. After his brother disappeared he more or less stopped doing meditations, so as the cacophony of the Matrix began to eat away at his sanity he turned to drugs and cheap booze to dull his senses enough to keep the noise in check.

Awesome Stuff Abschalten. Great to have a GM that hard-working.

Let's see if I remain standing:
Body 5 + Willpower 3 - Wound Modifier 1 (thanks to High Pain Tolerance 3) = 7 Dice
7d6.hits(5) → [6,5,3,4,4,5,4] = (3) 3 HitsBetter than I expected considering my usual luck on Invisible Castle.

Jul 9 2010, 08:24 AM
Threading up a Decrypt: 4 Software 5 Resonance 2 Paragon(Flow) (11d6 → [4,2,4,6,6,1,3,3,6,3,5] = (43)4 hits
So Rating 4, resisting 4S Drain:
Resting Drain for Decrypt: 5 Intuition 5 Resonance (10d6 → [6,6,6,4,2,2,3,6,5,4] = (44)Muaha! 5 hits!
Now doing Decrypt + Electronic Warfare, finally!
5 Electronic Warfare 4 Decrypt (9d6 → [4,1,2,3,5,4,2,4,5] = (30)Bah, only
2 hits!
Chaske is poking about the area in AR. Although his vision is completely blocked by the AR window through which he's doing his prowling the rest of his (admittedly dulled) senses are still operating and if he feels or hears anything out of the ordinary he won't hesitate to shrink his current AR window and see what's going on.
Since cryptanalysis is usually a 1 Combat Turn extended test should I roll a few more batches of decryption?
And echoing Combat Mage's sentiments, this is shaping up to be an awesome campaign so far, Abschalten!
------------------
In other news however, Chaske's paragon gives him +1 to compiling Code or Data sprites and his stream grants access to both. Anyone played a Technomancer before? Which do you think would be better? I can make a strong case for either of them.

I totally screwed up that roll.
Perception 5 + Intuition 3 + Enhanced Perception 3 - Rain 2 - Distraction 3 = 6 dice
5d6+3d6+3d6-3d6-2d6 → [4,4,6,5,3,2,4,3,2,3,1,-1,-5,-5,-4,-4] = (18) As I said, I screwed it up. But hey, two successes! Now I know how it precisely works.

@Lamhslea[ Spoiler ]
I know from past experience abusing painkillers that it takes a while for them to kick in once they've been taken, so I'm not counting the effects of Bliss yet, otherwise it would totally bone your rolls. Give me a Body test, so we can see how many hours the Bliss lasts once it takes hold.
Also, go ahead and roll your Electronic Warfare+Decrypt a few more times with a cumulative -1 on each test starting with the next one. Your dice pool will shrink with each attempt, since you're pitting your ability against what's going on.
Data Sprites seem more generally useful, but Code Sprites have a couple powers that could really help out. Honestly, though, that +1 isn't a huge deal. It's nice but it won't really make either one excessively easier to compile and register. If you have access to both might as well flip a coin, in my opinion.
@Doc Chase[ Spoiler ]
Looks like you should have 8 dice for that roll instead of 6. You can go ahead and reroll if you'd like. We're all learning here.

As for the rest of ya, your results are noted and I'll weave them into the next posts.
And I appreciate the compliments. I haven't GM'd Shadowrun in a very, very long time, and I haven't done any creative writing in a longer time. This lets me stretch both muscles. Hopefully I'll shake off the rust and regain a fraction of my old glory as time goes on.

Last time Abs sicced a SpecOps team on my character and co., it turned out VERY badly for the SpecOps. Aside from one close call with the face that was thankfully averted with edge, every last trooper was killed with humiliating ease. First the troll leader got one-shot'd in the face with a flechette gun by the face(oh the irony), then my hacker(whom was the only one packing anything bigger than a pistol at the time) whittled down the others while the two sams dealt killing blows. The mage was shockingly unhelpful.

Haha. Well I will have follow ups for people who've posted out tonight. For those that haven't responded yet I'll get to them after they do so. We're gonna get to a point soon where people are being responded to at different rates than others, and once some of you get together you'll be able to RP amongst yourselves in posts without any hand-holding from me. Compiling a sprite:
Compiling R3 Courier Sprite w/ Decrypt CF: 4 Compiling + 5 Resonance + 2 Hot Sim. Rating 3 Sprite (11d6.hits(5)=0, 3d6.hits(5)=3)Well...I think I'll spend some Edge to reroll that absolutely atrocious roll...
Compiling Reroll: 4 Compiling + 5 Resonance + 2 Hot Sim Resisting 6S Fading:5 Resonance + 5 Intuition (11d6.hits(5)=5, 10d6.hits(5)=3)5 hits against the sprite's 3Resists 3S out of 6SAnd now threading up a Track CF to go looking for Forward Team!
Threading (Track CF): 4 Software + 5 Resonance + 2 Paragon (11d6.hits(5)=4)4 Hits, going to use all of themResisting 4S Fading
Resisting 4S Fading from Track Threading: 5 Intuition + 5 Resonance (10d6.hits(5)=4)Resists all fadingAnd now finally to go looking for the sucker!
Chaske has 3 IP while in VR, and tracing has an interval of a Complex Action, so I'm justing going to throw out 10 rolls, if the cumulative penalties are returning just knock off rolls starting on the rightmost roll.
Trace User (Forward Team): 4 Track + 4 Compute + 2 Hot Sim. [If cumulative penalty take off from rightmost rolls first.] (8d6.hits(5)=3, 8d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=6, 8d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=3, 8d6.hits(5)=0, 8d6.hits(5)=4, 8d6.hits(5)=3, 8d6.hits(5)=4)3 hits, 2 hits, 6 hits, 2 hits, 2 hits, 0 hits, 4 hits, 3 hits, 4 hitsDoh, forgot to add 2 dice for hot simming (but also forgot to remove 1 die for being wounded, unless the Bliss has kicked in) I'm happy with those rolls, however.
Once Chaske reaches Forward Team's node (if he does) he's probably going to hack into whatever looks the least secure and hijack himself a vid/map feed of some sort to see what's going on.
As for the sprite, he's trusting in its wisdom to find something interesting. Also, since he doesn't have much of an idea as to what is going on he doesn't want to offend it by being too nitpicky. He would appreciate Access ID's, however. Just in case he needs to spoof something.

Mechanically, what Chaske is doing is Capture Wireless Signal (page 229, SR4A - so broken I wonder why more players don't abuse it...) It normally requires a concerted effort to capture signals and analyze them, but I figured since Chaske was going sorta crazy for a moment and was confused he could have easily stumbled upon it, and all he needed to do was Decrypt in order to understand the transmissions.
