Looking at the Ruined Kingdom graphs it jumped 40k in 4 hours. Sadly it looks like it is slowing down. Fascinating to see how much money an extra reward tier can bring in.

The $5k doesn't especially call out to me compared to the $2.5k. Unlike the $7.5k, the $10k includes free snacks!

Seeing as the first two games had a bit of non-combat interaction, I'm pretty sure we'll enjoy what's shipped.

Are you serious ? Well, if this doesnt matter for you, its totally relevant for me. If the game ends up being a string of totally linear missions, Im out. Or at least reducing my pledge considerably.
I think the devs should stop promising things, and start talking what theyre gonna do with the things are already present at this moment.

That is what we call 'development'. We're not going to -know- exactly what they're putting in until they have a solid budget and can decide what's feasible. If you're not comfortable with that, you might want to avoid Kickstarter projects and wait for the release.

Then post something to the question thread at the top of the forum.
But basically, I'm mostly with coolgrafix: Let's get development, you know, started. Which won't be for another couple weeks, minimum. Basically, having worked with Mike and knowing his love of the SR property, and knowing Jordan's reputation (and the fact that he, you know, came up with the game in the first damn place), I'm inclined to cut them a little slack.
Me, I'm not a video game player. I backed the project, and I'll give the game a shot, but I'm not particularly worried about how it's going to come out. I know the guys working on it, I respect them more than my meager ability with words can convey, and I trust them to give us something that rocks.

Wasteland 2 and Double Fine are also kickstarter projects, and both have this part of the gameplay clearly stated. Im not asking for the devs to say exactly what will be in final product, becase at this stage its obviously impossible. But I think its fair to ask what theiyre planning to include. As a backer, I consider only fair that they give me a more substantial picture of their own vision. All the other games on kickstarter did that.
"turn-based, 2D, deep, top man" is too vague a statement.

This is going to be an RPG. I don't expect something like Mass Effect or Skyrim (Or FF13), but I do expect to see something like the SNES/Genesis Shadowrun games. And I'm happy with that.

Finally a way to vote with our money and have it mean something.
The slathering vidiots who buy whatever the magazines tell them, or whatever FPS they can swear at people in while being ungodly in skill in, won't affect our RPGs and in depth storytelling, as well as problem solving requirements.

Okay, spoiler warning obviously:
That only happens in the third installation of the game series "Shadowrun Returns Again and Again". The Horrors are coming back to devour the Earth and a little dragon child will give you three choices: Explode magic, killing everything magical in the process. Merge with Dunkelzahn and destroy the bridge between the worlds with the help of the Dragon Heart, postponing the inevitable coming of the Horrors. Turn every living being on Earth into a thorn-tormented magical creature, so that the Horrors lose interest and go pester the dragons on Mars (so called Alachia solution). Unfortunately every wheel on Earth explodes regardless of you choice... something to do with magic...
In Shadowrun Returns you only get to choose to either save the United Corporate Council of Seattle or let them die and stack the new council with shadowrunners.

Backers will be able to vote on this. To my mind that is a mistake though. The colour of your ending is such a fundamental design decision. It literally colours in the emotional impact of your story. No offense but such an important decision should not be left to amateurs.

So... I've been thinking about this for a while.
Black ending will be no one noticing anything. Those buildings and those people never existed.
Pink ending will be trolls bow adepts shooting arrows that are in fact dwarves dual wielding chainsaws at everyone and everything exploding.
Not sure about the third color though.
I did have an idea about the rainbow ending, where everyone become best friends and work together to make the world a better place, but somehow I don't think it fits.

"What we need to do as fans is make it clear we want depth, we want customization, we want a breathing/living world. What we don't want is a sequential railroad of missions in a world we feel is extremely static and just waiting for us to show up to. Many of us have praised the Genesis' method of sprinkling random encounters/events and random-generated runs that kept things interesting during the 'none main story' periods. It was glorious. Let them know this is how we feel."

Stahlseele, what was this famous game series you have not yet played? I cannot quite remember.

QUOTE (silva @ Apr 17 2012, 04:16 AM)

This.
Random generation has it's own problems though, because once you learn the pattern it usually loses its appeal at least story-wise. I have yet to see a game that passes the "Turing test" in terms of algorithmic story writing. Not that there many games with random plot generation to begin with. I think if Harebrained Schemes makes a lot side quest runs and the mission editor enables the community to be make a lot of new ones, we should be set. (By the way I'm a huge fan of random generation and would love to see it working, I just think it is hard to do well.)
Another thought regarding a "living world". Would it bother you if people in the game world start to chat you up on a particularly successful run, because that is a common method of reflecting your character's development or progress through the story back to you? Of course that has always been a contradiction in Shadowrun itself. On the one hand you are SINless and there is this silent agreement to not persecute deniable assets because they are so useful for everyone, on the other hand corporations are vindictive and deniable assets are hunted all the time (as in major plot device). Being available to meeting new Johnsons is risky even if they have been vetted by your fixer. And certainly chatting about your runs on matrix shadow boards or being famous for certain runs in general doesn't seem to be something you want to happen.
One way to achieve a world that feels alive is having lots of news items and populating it with other runners or shadow folk, whose fate you can follow (people come and go, live and die). Both could be run on some form of random schedule.
Lastly, was there ever any mention of a character editor for making new runner companions or does that interfere with the rewards for backers?
