I just got promoted at work (yay!), which means that I'm going to start becoming much busier and won't have as much time to game (boo!). Unfortunately, I'm going to have to drop from this game. Feel free to NPC my character until he/she can be removed cleanly or keep using them as an NPC as long as you like. I'm sorry to do this, but life calls...
(And man it was a tough call for this one. I really wanted to stick with this one, but you guys already post too fast for me to keep up. I'm terribly sorry.)

An inertial compass has two functions. Firstly, it
does serve as a normal compass (will that even work here, I wonder?). The second function of the compass is that it can be calibrated to a starting point and will remain keyed to that location.
And congrats on the promotion!

Oh, one more thing that I forgot .... Is it possible to look up at the sky to see how far from night we may be? If possible, it's better to do most of our moving around once the sun goes down; better to conserve our energy (read: sweat) by waiting a few hours.
<edit: I don't think you can stammer while subvocalizing ... >

About the compass: Does everyone know how to use it? Like, can Chase or is it more of a tech thing?
Either way, we should set the doo-hicky so the Gate is start point. Hmmmm, maybe that will be part of my new edit..

OK on to the game, the compass is standard issue, everyone knows how to use it. In 'normal' mode the compass points in the general direction of the temple. So that could be north.
As for the sky, the sun is beating down directly on you. It looks like it is noon.

kevyn668
May 8 2004, 01:06 AM
Well, then maybe you should post something IC to that effect?
I figured Chase would take some initiative. He and Os have complementary skills and good recon potential.
If you want James to go punch the clock w/ the hot elf chic, that's cool w/ me.
Either way, James was slated as "Team Leader" (I assume b/c he has the highest Leadership skill) but he's not doing much in that area aside from alienating various teammembers. Chase recognises his Leadership--he did call James "sir"--so he'll
probably follow James' lead.
BGMFH
May 8 2004, 01:09 AM
James leads by example, you'll catch on soon enough... if I have a handle on where this is going at least.. I may be wrong.
And no, James just thinks that Chase and Os would be better suited nearby, he knows he can deal with *any* non magical ranged threat (in his opinion)

Planting a mine in your locker and telling everyone to basically piss off

Cosmo is mostly just trying to get the memory chips downloaded out of the devestated drones. If possible, I'd also like to try and verify exactly what happened to them (defaulting from Electronics B/R if necessary). I'll go ahead and include two rolls for each drone; the first is the one to get the memory working, the other to figure out what happened. If they have any chance to be salvaged (even using both to create a new one), I'd like to try that out, too.
DRONE #1
Electronics B/R: 3 7 5 4 7 2 1 3 1
Electronics B/R (defaulting from Walkers B/R): 1 10 1 1 2 2 4 4 11
DRONE #2
Electronics B/R: 1 1 4 5 9 9 1 1 10

If we need shelter, we have it a couple of kilometers away.

If it's hostile, then digging a hole in a nearby dune's not gonna help much.

Personally I think it's rather realistic that the runners don't trust each other and aren't working as a team. What group of 8 random strangers, all of them criminals, are going to run like clockwork on their first meeting?
PS: History Knowledge Skill Check to see if Torque remembers any Culture that built something similar to what we see on the other side.

OMG i th1nk sMGs are teh b0Mb

Think more along the lines of "individuals competent with a firearm capable of out-distancng a pistol."
But if you think about it, assault rifles do have a couple of benefits as a primary weapon: Higher Damage. Extended clip. Long range. According to the rules, I could bear my arse at a SMG at 160m.

Hey Shadow, how about the History Test?
Starship Troopers (Shudders). Worst movie I've ever seen. I'm not sure the people who wrote it even read the book. I've often dreamed of becoming an indie film-maker just to create a version that was true to Heinlein's vision. . . 10-foot tall power-armor suits that can run at hundreds of miles and hour and pack enough firepower to level a city in seconds. Bugs who do have their own starships and use nukes as paving stones since they're virtually radiation immune. Planet-destroying bombs. And realistic intelligence command, none of this dropping 3 million men on a planet without any plan, organization, or so much as a map to guide them.

Cosmo is going to fly in an ever-widening spiral search pattern using the maximum range of his passive sensors to get a full picture of the surrounding area. He does this until he gets about twenty-five kilometers from the basecamp unless he runs into any signs of life or other signs of interest, at which point he'll investigate a little further. With that sort of pattern, his altitude (high enough to only be a speck), the speed of his board, and the range of his sensors, he shouldn't have any problem covering a huge area in no time.
Oases, camps, or anything that looks remotely man-made (including trails) will pique his interest. He's also recording all the sensor data into his memory for future reference. If he runs into any signs of life whatsoever, he'll quickly evade and go low-profile, using the terrain to hide as best he can while he zooms in for more information. And except for the Mad Hatter's interuption on the radio, he's pretty much maintaining radio silence, instead focusing on taking in all the data (visual and beyond).
Just lemme know which die rolls (if any) you need either here or in PM, Shadow.

Out of curiosity, Leo, have you had Ghost Dragon call his Earth Elemental to see if it shows up? If memory serves, you summoned it while still on Earth, and unless it jumped through the gate with you, I'm curious as to how long it'll take it travel through the astral plane to get here... if possible at all.
If it does show up, you might be able to divine some information on how far from Earth we really are, and that might come in handy later. I dunno, just offering up an idea.
