La-a-a-a-a-a-a-dies and Gentlemen! Announcing today, here at the dumpshock forums, a new game! In this corner we have the Gamemaster. Weighing in at 170 lbs, he allows any generation system in NSRCG to be used. And in the other corner --- we'll there's no one yet! But he's looking to face off against 4 or 5 other people!
</announcer_voice>

Enough of that silliness (<gonzo voice>What silliness would you prefer?</gonzo voice>) and onto the serious stuff:
  • 4 - 5 players maximum. First come, first considered but submiting a character fast doesn't garauntee a place in the game.
  • Priortity, Sum to Ten, BeCKS (425) or Buld Points (125) are allowed. Please use NSRCG if so that you can send me the .sr3 files.
  • Looking for decent backstories but nothing too awesome. This a one or two run group.
  • Normal 6/8 rating/availablitiy ratings apply
  • All archetypes available excepting Riggers. I just don't know the rules well enough yet. If you really want a rigger, let me know and I'll think about it.
  • Game is set in 2063 so SURGE is an option if you want it. Alternatively, if all the players agree, we can do SURGE randomly and I'll tell you if your character SURGEs
  • Edges, Flaws, SURGE effects all subject to my approval. SURGE is usually okay, but I'm not a big fan of some of the Edges and Flaws.
  • You have the right to a decker. If you cannot afford one, a decker will be provided for you. Translation: a decker would be handy for this run but if no one wants to play one, I'll NPC it.

We'll be playing a module that I wrote myself set in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Why? Becuase I live there and I find it interesting to use my stomping grounds for a setting smile.gif I had two people contact me via PM with questions and character ideas already, though I haven't seen sheets. So, the pot is open.

The module has a main run with a followup opportunity if you all as players want to keep going with the characters. I've run this module ones in the real world and would like to iron out some of the difficulties that we faced in that game. So if Elfie or Soluna are looking at this -- you did this one already. Doesn't mean you can't play this one, but don't give anything away if you do!!

Post questions/concepts below and send .sr3 files to dashifen<at>dashifen<dot>com.
TinkerGnome
I've got an elf street sam coming your way. I just have to put him into NSRCG instead of .doc. This'll be fun.
Nikoli
I'll try and get one to you tonight.
Scarecrow237
I've never tried playing pbp, but I think I'll give it a go. I'll have a character for you by midnight edt.

Computer problems have delayed my submission. I'll have to sit this one out.
Number 6
I'm in, as I think you know already? I'll try and get a character to you today.
Nikoli
Is anyone interested in playing the group decker? if not I'd like to try, that is, if Otaku are allowed.
Number 6
Go ahead. I'm looking at either a PhysAd samurai, or an elven negotiator who skillsofts his combat stuff.
Shadow
Dash, would our characters have to be local or could they be in town for the job?
Soluna
I'm sending a B&E character to you...since we might need one for this op smile.gif
paul_HArkonen
I've got street sam I'd like to try out, he'll be there by 9pm EDT
Dashifen
They don't have to be local. In fact I was assuming that they wouldn't be.

I've received a character from Soluna but she's played the module before and just wanted to do it again. She's agreed that if others want to play she can watch from the sidelines if necessary.

Otaku are fine, Nikoli.

We've got a bunch of sams and no mage yet on the list above so if anyone wants to try something new, the board is a good place to try it smile.gif
Shadow
Hey Dash, can I play Trace?
Number 6
With 2 sams, a decker and a thief i'll probably do the elven skillsoft Face. I'm open to any PM suggestioms on how to do it wink.gif I'm shying away from a mage because i'm pretty ned to SR (only played 1 run) and the mage looks like the most complicated character type.
paul_HArkonen
sorry but that title (most complicated) belongs to the decker.
Dashifen
nah -- decking's easy compared to rigging in my book. If you want to try magic, I'd say go for it Number 6. No better time to try than online when you can look stuff up in between posts to make sure that you know what you're doing

There were a few skillsoft threads on the boards in the last few weeks. I'll try to post you a like if I can find them.

Shadow: send me his sheet smile.gif

Skillwire Information Herein

This thread, not entirely about skillwires, could be handy for you, No6
Nikoli
Just so I'll have it later, how much for a good (read: professional) skateboard in your world? And would it be covered under athletics?
Number 6
Heh, I tried running a game with a decker 2 years back. Threw out The Matrix after the first session.

Lookin for the threads now.....

Can we start with cultured bioware if it only comes that way? Trying to figure out what to do with the extra 500,000 I have...
TinkerGnome
Character away. I didn't include a real BG, but I will write that up later. Basicly, ex-cop turned merc turned shadowrunner. He's pretty old, but being an elf, that's not a big deal. Oh, and he's showing illegal because he has cyber retinal mods and nicitating membranes which NSRCG erroneously thinks is incompatible.

On skillwired face. I wouldn't chip your main social skills etiqutte/negotiations, or your main combat skill (DIMAP chips give dumpshock when you change chips). But besides that, the rest is fair game. In general, go for any skills you'll be using rarely (demolitions, launch weapons, etc.) or in a non-time critical environment (breakdown/repair, technical skills, etc. -- time critical in that 1 action isn't going to make a difference) as chips and the rest as natural.
Number 6
Character should be in your inbox.
Shadow
Trace is away.
Nikoli
Having trouble with NSCRG, Otaku complex forms cannot be added currently
Ditaki
If nobody's playing a mage character, I'd kinda like to play a Wujen mage...somebody Japanese, with faith in the kami in everything.

If you've still got the space, mind you.

In my world I have no idea how much a skateboard is .... google time ....

<1 minute later>

Okay, the most expensive skateboards I could find were $90. So, we'll round up for inflation to 100 nuyen even and to make it subtract nicely. You asked in email what it would do if you hit someone with it. And, I would say it depends on how you hold it. If you're swining it like a bat with two hands holding it from the end, I'd say (STR+1)M with a reach of 1. However, if you were holding it by one of the axles with the skateboard back along your forearm I'd say then that you're looking at (STR+2)M but a reach of 1. We could argue, if you want to, wether or not that would provide you a +1 to impact armor in melee similar to forearm guards, but I'd say no because you don't have two boards. Both of these attacks would be stun.

However, if you want to, you could put a thrusting point, perhaps a retractable one that could be extended as a simple action. Then you'd get to do physical damage rather than stun, but I'm not sure it'd do as much physical damage because the thrusting point would be closer to a dagger -- perhaps (STR+2)L. Any one else have any thoughts on this one?

Forgot about that. Just write the complex forms down that you have in the bio section so that I know about them.

nevermind

You might be able to start with cultured bioware -- I usually do that on a case by case basis. If you've got that much extra cash, you could always turn it back into skill or attribute points? Play a metahuman if you want to as well, then you can use up some more points.

But, reading down, I see that you've already sent it to me. Therefore, I'll see what you did wink.gif
Nikoli
I found a way around, switched to 'No Rules' and just tracked manually.
Ikarus should be in your inbox by now

I submitted a Mage, but that in no ways means you can't.
Dashifen
Okay, I've got this crew so far:
  • Lynx (Soluna) -- B&E Specialist
  • Corbin (TinkerGnome) - Street Sam (with assloads of combat gear)
  • Ikarus (Nikoli) - Otaku
  • Slash - Street Sam
  • Eärendur Helyanwë - Combat Face
  • Trace (Shadow) - Mage

I think I'm going to close it right now at this (I'm sorry, Ditaki) but if anyone wants out as we discuss below, then I'll re-open the group.

So, here's comments: Lynx, Corbin, Trace and Earendur are good.

Slash: You took a hand blade on the gear screen but not on the cyberware screen (at least in the version I have). You'll have to get it on the cyberware screen because that's the only way you pay essence for it. Also, if you want a handblade, it's technically cyber implant combat and not edged weapons so you'll need another skill unless you want to default for a +2 and half combat pool to edged weapons.

Nikoli: Do you have more complex forms? Also, you have two data jacks listed in cyberware. Is that intentional or accidental.

Lastly, who sent me Slash and Earendur. I could probably deduce it, but it's late and I'm tired.

Thanks all, I'll get back to you with more tomorrow.
Nikoli
That's all the complex forms. 400 MP is used up fast.
Most System tests are handled through channels, which are listed under skills.
the second DJ is on purpose, for off line storage (yes I know I don't have any atm, but I'll need the means to access it once I get a place to put it.)
Number 6
Eärendur is mine, I thought I signed it "Number 6" but that's ok. His street name is actually 'Zander Hellcow AKA; Alex, 'Zander or more commonly Hellcow. Or... thats what he tells eveyone since he's new to this 'working for a living' biz.

Like I said, I haven't played much so I welcome any comments, or suggested changes. I've also never used NSRCG before, sorry I didn't know you have to 'finalize' the character till after I sent it and tried to print. I also couldn't figure out how to change my 2 free contacts, i'll PM them to you.
Eyeless Blond
Click on the contact in the left panel, type in what you want, then click "update" in the lower right corner. smile.gif
Number 6
Thanks! I'll wait to see if Dashifen has any requests/suggestions and then send him the updated, finalized copy in the morning. He's 95% done tho.

Question for Dashifen: To what extent do we know each other, have worked together before? Also, how do you feel about the Good Looking and Knows It and College Education edges?

Crap, i'm just reading the Skillsoft thread you linked and I realized I don't even have a cell phone. frown.gif Ok, minor changes and i'll send you the updated in the (late) morning. Um, do runners typically use radios or phones? Geez, sorry about this, i'm not used to all this complication in creating a character ohplease.gif

Tinker: Thanks for the info on the skillwires. Skipped the DIMAP entirely, I think the availability was too high. Took some (rather expensive) PlusCodes instead.

  • Corbin (TinkerGnome) - Street Sam (with assloads of combat gear)

I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing wink.gif He's well armed, but he's also capable of being subtle. I'd have submitted a mage, but I'm sure you're aware of the last mage debacle I was involved in.

#6... Hellcow? Also, you need a pager and a cell phone (pocket secretaries handle cell phone duties, as well). Pagers aren't tracable, and if someone wants to get ahold of you, they can sure as hell wait the two minutes it takes you to not be sneaking into a corporate facility when you call them back smile.gif

Be careful with chip options, since they get very, very expensive. That size bloat is nasty (ie, optimized chips cost 2x normal and customized chips cost 7x normal -- though they're above starting avail).

Sphynx had a good idea that I might one day use. Dedicated datajack with an implanted cluster chip with 3 skills at really high rating. Kind of neat.
paul_HArkonen
as i sent you Slash is mine and i think the hand blade is suposed to be a Vibro Knife, sorry about that, musta hit the wrong button or something.
TinkerGnome
Oh, and comm encryption is a good thing, if you can aford it. Rating 3 is what I usually go with because it's pretty hard to break (and really hard to break fast) and pretty cheap (3k).
Dashifen
I'm going to go over the characters this afternoon and I might have more questions for you guys if I see anything else.

Until then: you probably know each other with the exception of Trace, who just happens to be in town for the moment and is hired for the work. Shadow, you can decide why he's working with people he doesn't know at all if you want to, or it can be as simple as he needs the money. As for the others, you're all somewhat new to the area, probably done one or two odd jobs just to get a little bit of a reputation for doing decent work, but no "real" shadowruns ... yet.

Those don't bother me. Go for them if you want to.

Forgive my unfamiliarity with skillwires, where are the options? M&M? Thanx.
Eyeless Blond
Honestly there's little point in pluscode unless either you're using really low-rating (and hich-pulse) skillwires or have a whole lot of money to throw into an especially high pulse rating. Remember that pluscode only lowers the ASIST rating; the pulse (size in Mp) actually goes up.
TinkerGnome
Activesoft options are in Cannon Companion. They are rather useless at chargen since the better combos break avail 8. Cluster and optimization are about the only two I'd use. Unless I was going to go with the aforementioned implant chip.
Shadow
Dash,

He figured he needed to get out of Seattle for a while. His parents live near Pen state so he figured he would visit them, and make some money.
Dashifen
That works smile.gif

I'm looking at a few PlusCode2 Optimized rating 5 skillsofts. Then I could run 2 at a time, a weapon plus one other. Is that a bad idea? EDIT: Yes it is, it goes over the availability. Damn. Anyway, i'm also using a Jukebox controlled by datacjack, thats as good as a cluster right?
Nikoli
Just a reminder, you cannot use combat pool one chipped weapon skills.
Eyeless Blond
Better, in a way; you don't add the ratings up when determining the final rating of the chip. Also worse, in a way; you've got a wire and a fairly bulky piece of electronics sticking out of the back of your neck.
Eyeless Blond

Besides, to run both of those chips simultaneusly, you'd need a set of 'wires with a minimum ASIST rating of 6 and a pulse rating of 147 or higher, which'll set you back 529,200 nuyen.gif and 1.2 Essence as basic cyberware. Not to mention the 'softs themselves, which will cost 44,100 nuyen.gif just for those two.
TinkerGnome
Another note, you can't get optimized chips with pluscode 2. That'd be avail 10.

The problem with datajack controlling a jukebox is that you can't use your CED with the chips.
Number 6
Size of a pack of cigarettes, conceal 6, or 9 under a coat; I thought i'd put it in my inside pocket and run wires from the SSJB to the 2 port chipjack. Pluscode 1 means I can run 2 rating 4's, that sound good?

Why can't you use CED with a SSJB? The SJB plugs right into the chipjacks, right? The datajack just controls what Skillsofts i load up to the chipjacks, i thought....
TinkerGnome
Oh, I thought you were talking about feeding the softs through a datajack (which you actually can't do, so it's moot... an old misunderstanding of mine).
