Aria
Any chance of Sabs, Seth or Big Fella (or all of you) writing an endorsement of the game in the second recruitment thread? Will bounce it to the top of the list again and hopefull attract some attention...

Link: Here

...oh, and feel free to post IC nyahnyah.gif

Thanks!
Seth
OK. We did the trying to talk them out of it trick...now to rain destruction upon them!

So: when I return to the area where my body is time to do some assensing..looking especially for invisible snipers: 3 successes
sabs
Hey do try and spend sometime in flesh so we can communicate. We probably have a Protocol asking you to check in every X amount of time. That or you need to make a Mindlink with who ever the current CO is.
Seth
QUOTE

Yeah will do. I checked in just before I want to try and negotiate, but only got static on the comms. I will check in as soon as I have looked for snipers (I am much better looking astrally I suspect).

Do we actually have comms at the moment? I thought the tower was jamming everything. (Is it worth shooting the jammers: one nice thing about jammers is that they are really easy to target!)

sabs
We have some comms. And you know I'm literally a foot away from your meat body wink.gif
Seth
QUOTE
And you know I'm literally a foot away from your meat bod

Those are pretty antiquated comms. I thought I would have to use smoke signals and drums
Aria
If there was a sniper he/she has probably been blown into little bitty pieces by Stick's reign of fury smile.gif

There are currently no warm bodies (of the enemy) within the atrium area where you are gathered...

...oh, and the background count seems to have gone by now...
Big Fella
Hi again folks.

OK Joshua has a good look round. Intuition 4, co-processors 3, cybereyes 3, perception 4 = 14 die. Only 3 successes

Then I unleased hideous doomy death:

Archery 17 die with max strength bow (base 10 damage I think).
six seconds worth of shooting 4, 3, 6, 4, 5, 6 successes.

The drones were more of a diversion than anything else (as Tantilla's body attests to)...between you they aren't really a threat (apart from loosing some arrows/ammo)...now it's time for the real fun to begin ork.gif

Here it is then. Meet Bryn! smile.gif

I'll wait and see what you think before I try and requisition gear

Josh
Aria
Looks good to me (although haven't had an in depth study...)

Don't worry about having more than one new officer (I learnt the hard way that in a military game it's better to have more PCs as officers in case there's a drop off in postings - not that there will be I'm sure smile.gif )

I would change pistols to automatics though...and perhaps outdoors to athletics (I've always thought outdoors would be better as skillsofts). Have you got more gear to buy? I don't see a commlink, vision enhancers etc...?!?
Seth
Sorry to hassle you Aria, I suspect you missed the request. I am just waiting for the results of my astral scout (3 successes), then I can go back and start heading into the tower.
mister__joshua
I intend to use automatics more than pistols, but thought that pistols was a more officer like skill, and if I only knew one then it should be pistols. I was gonna skillsoft automatics at 4. I considered athletics so I can swap outdoors for that. I didn't get a commlink or vision enhancers cos they were all in the deepwatch package I thought?

Wasn't there something IC about no warm bodies in the atrium? How far into the tower do you want to scout otherwise? Let me know if you want to go into any warded areas...i'll recount the tower levels again here and note which have significant wards:

Stillwater Tower – Pre 2070 Info

Lvl -5 Geothermal plant - no apparent wards (assuming you go down that far to check...)
Lvl -4 Recycling plant - most of this area is warded
Lvl -3 Recycling plant (Lake bed) - some side rooms are warded, lots of equipment that hums with power (electrical not magical)
Lvl -2 Leisure facilities, airlock to fish farm, plant - most of this area is warded
Lvl -1 Underwater restaurant, services, plant - some side rooms warded
Lvl 0 Bridge link, reception, lounges, restaurant - no wards
Lvl 1 Auditorium / conference facilities - most of this area is warded
Lvl 2 Suites - some warded areas, whatever is here certainly isn't hotel suites any more
Lvl 3 Suites - one extremely powerful ward and some minor ones, again, not hotel suites any more
Lvl 4 Suites - no wards
Lvl 5 Suites - no wards - level 4 & 5 look like they are inhabited but are empty as you flick through them
Lvl 6 Skypark & wind generators - no wards
Lvl 7 Skypark - no wards
Lvl 8 Penthouse suites - one extremely powerful ward

Oh yeah, will have to read my own posts once in a while nyahnyah.gif
Seth
Thanks for the summary of where to look.

Could you just let us know which level our troops (and us are on). I think we are on the third floor.

If thats the case, I am just astrally scouting the corridors ahead of us.

And Hi My Bryn
mister__joshua
Cool. How many skillsofts can I reasonably ask for? If it's 2 then I'll pick 2, if I can have 10 I'll pick them! After than and requisitioning a little bit of gear (any teammate suggestions for gear welcome) I'm pretty much ready to join in

I'm new to this, and I've never used invisible castle before, so I'm gonna just try and pick it up as I go along
Seth
OK this isn't going to end well if we just charge in.

This is I think a lot like the Battle of Tora Bora. Loads of well armed crazy fanatics willing to die for what they believe in. They know we are here, so have forted up. I think any military force in our position would do one of two things: abandon the mission or surround and fort up.

So: I am wondering if we can do something like the following:
  • Fort up, surround them. They probably have tunnels so can we get some specialise tunnel detection gear.
  • Take over their jamming, and jam them. Or destroy their jammer
  • Use a diversion and send in a stealth team

This is a good time to talk back to base and request backup and guidance: hence the arrival of our new officers. Out of character I suspect thats an excellent reason for a new officer to turn up, and I suspect that we need a new mission objective.
Aria
Seth, just curious, what did I say that makes you think there are naga here?!? smile.gif

It would be lovely to request back-up but you've lost contact with the outside and there isn't room for you all to fit inside the Sultan - even the skytrain buggered off to base with the wounded troll...
Seth
Ahh... I misread female mage for femala naga. Serve me right for not checking.

Correcting post

I here what you say about backout. OK that makes our first objective clear: Nuke or takeover the jammer.
sabs
Hey I guess it's up to me to figure out where the jamming is coming from smile.gif

I think you can probably have all of the outdoors group at say 3, 1-2 combat ones at 3-4 and maybe one other at 4...feel free to requisition more kit, you might even get it smile.gif

You will be a Lt I think, with Blackhat's character (when ready) as a Cpt. Seems to fit the cigar smoking dwarf image to me but lemme know if you think differently. You will both (and anyone else that cares to join) be on a pair of Skytrains with 2 platoons of troopers diverted from a mission into Aztlan. I think your troops will be more run of the mill than the spec ops that went in first. Security grade armour, with perhaps some hard shell troops, and a mix of weaponry and equipment. Given the reports about the drone takeovers you might leave those behind...

Oh, and tacnet R:2 all round...(until you get into the jamming zone anyway ork.gif)

The brief you've been given is the same one as the beginning of the OoC post plus knowledge that you've lost contact with the first and second teams that went in...this is serious!!!
mister__joshua
Cool. Would it be unreasonable as we've already lost contact with 2 teams to ask for alternative communications equipment. Satellite phone, CB radio, even carrier pigeon if it comes to it nyahnyah.gif. Do we know where the other teams were when we lost contact with them, and their situation when we did?

I must confess ignorance when it comes to military ranks so Lt. sounds fine to me

As I've never commanded a large number of troops before I'm not 100% on the sort of equipment I should be asking for. How were the other teams equipped? I think the least I'd like is a guy with some breach charges and maybe some heavier explosives, and for each man to have a flare gun. Do I need to ask for grendes and such or is each trooper equipped in a standard way?

For skillsofts, the outdoors group would be great. For combat ones I'd like automatics and either heavy weapons or explosives, depending on which is best covered already by my team. I'd also like to pick up Negotiate, and if I'm really pushing my luck Pilot ground craft and Hardware smile.gif

Lastly, all of my troops are to have persona fixes to be 'more like Rambo' biggrin.gif

If you write me an intro I'll try and make my first IC post tomorrow or monday. A brief rundown of what my team contains would be awesome, but not essential.

Cavalry out/
Aria
Will try and get an IC intro up for you on Monday along with more info on your troopers.

Skillsofts are ok!

Not sure about the personafixes nyahnyah.gif
BlackHat
Here is my WIP. No idea what to ask for as far as requisitioned items. Some ammo/grenades at least!
Also, I picked up the Deep Watch PACKS package, but I think the armor will encumber me. smile.gif

The DW package has a short range mircowave radio system...and that's what the PCs are currently communicating with. If you want something else I'm sure they could dig it up but it won't help you get in contact with the forward units...

I'll hopefully get an IC intro up for you today along with a rough breakdown of your units...

As a Cpt you can have a softweave (WAR!) version of the armour without cost (no encumberance I would think).

To everyone, next time you post OoC can you put a link to your character sheet from this thread, then I'll put it on Pg1 post 2 with the rosta...sorry, I'm too lazy to go looking for your sheets myself biggrin.gif

@Aria
Ok lets get this show on the road. Thank you for the feedback on the structure of the building.

I would like to start getting inside the building, but I have a bit of problem:
  • Where am I right now? ( I was carried somewhere so I just am not certain where my body is)
  • Who's with me?

With that I can start making a plan about surviving going into the death trap.

Thanks

Everyone (Sqaud 2 + reinforcements) is inside the atrium on lvl 3! Squad 1 were last seen somewhere in the underground living area (Hobbiton) over to the N/NW of the tower. The Sultan is landed under an overhang on the lvl 3 terrace outside your current position. There is a crashed FB Commando on the terrace above you and the two remaining people there have been rescued and brought back to the group...

I wasn't thinking about trying to communicate with the forward units. I was hoping for a way to communicate back to base once my team are in the jamming zone. It obviously is at your discression as to whether my character knows anything about the jamming. Can he make that assumption given that 2 teams are out of contact, or are they assumed dead? If so I was after something like a satellite phone etc. A trooper who is a dedicated Comms and radio operator would be nice. Is it known where the teams were when contact ws lost? Finally, are we using the same drop zone and advancement as the first teams, or is that at our discression?

Sorry, that's a lot of questions! nyahnyah.gif

Sure, I could even cover the cost difference for YMT SoftWeave, but I wasn't sure if it was available. smile.gif Glad it is.

  • The forward teams had a sat uplink and it didn't do them any good! You don't know why you've lost comms with them but DW are hiring sat coverage from Ares which should be online soon - might give you a picture of what's happening smile.gif About the only thing I can think of to maintain comms outside of this level of jamming is an LOS laser link to something outside it's range - or a fibre optic cable...Sabs might be more helpful here (yes, I rely on him a lot! nyahnyah.gif )?
  • You'll have 2 comms troopers (see below)
  • I will leave it up to you where you set down ork.gif Go take a look at the map - link on pg 1 of this thread

Cpt Roberts & Lt Bryn
You were originally tasked with a point defence role for a corporate facility on the Aztlan border that had received negative attention from hostile forces. You have been diverted to deal with the Stillwater situation as no other Deep Watch troops are available and your next contract is not due to start for another two days.

You have two platoons with you divided up as below (I’m assuming a skytrain can take 40 men+equipment but someone please scream if that’s unlikely – I’m looking at you Sabs smile.gif ):

Skytrain Ƶ5-1
Command Team
Cpt+Spider+Mage+Medic

Alpha Platoon
4x 9man squads

Skytrain 8Ø-Δ
Cappa Platoon
Lt+Spider+Medic
4x 9man squads

Squads are split into 3 man fire teams. Combination of arms & equipment, at least one Squad Support weapon / heavy weapon per squad. Each platoon has 3 Hard Shells + some minor magical talent. Exact equipment and disposition can be made up as we go along provided it seems reasonable...?!? I’m not going to name each individual, perhaps I’ll just name them when you get them killed ork.gif

If you are feeling particularly creative please feel free to come up with better designations for the platoons!

Our primary mission is retreive some data. Three questions for you:
  • Am I correct that no one knows where the data is held?
  • Have any clues where the data might be been reamed from any of our captives minds?
  • Do you want me to wait for the new players to join us, or we just go in?

Yes, no, no - don't wait for them, they'll be on the scene imminently and you have no idea they are coming (no spec ops is going to like being rescued by mere base defence personnel ork.gif )

Will try and have some IC up soon...

About the only thing I can think of to maintain comms outside of this level of jamming is an LOS laser link to something outside it's range

Funnily enough, this was exactly what I was thinking of! I was going to save my cunning plan for an In Character revelation, but I was thinking that when we start to enter the jamming leave a small team with a comms guy outside the range of the jamming and then get a LOS laser link to the rest of the team so when needs be we have communication. My only problem was I weren't sure if you thought this was a bit cheesy as OOC I know that there's comms jamming occuring, whereas IC I weren't sure if I knew that...

Did you accidentally miss off my magical talent, did I miss it somewhere, or was it my characters own prejudices that caused you to leave it out? I don't mind either way. Negative qualities should hinder a character. Just wondered if it was error or deliberate

Did you want me to re-post my character too, or is the version I posted gonna be linked? If you like I can repost it and change the outdoors group to athletics, and put the skillsofts in there too for reference.

Is the recent IC post for me to reply to or Blackhat? I'm working on a reply already, but if it's not my call then I'll hold off
sabs
Did I lose control of my Nimrod's again?
*grumble* Btw, Sticks is running continuous monitoring of all the drones, making sure that the pilots are answering properly, and Kit and our Hacker are doing spot checks on the Nimrods outside, to make sure they don't go awol again.

BlackHat
As far as landing/drop-off, is the Forward Base Tango Niner a known location from the mission brief, or is this a location set up by the team on their way in?
Otherwise, we know where their original landing zone was, but have no idea where they are now, correct? (That is, we didn't see any flares or smoke or anything on the way in?)

Aside from all of that, I'd say we should just land someplace open, like the fields to the south west or south east of the tower area (outside of the ritual lines).

First, though, I suppose we have to deal with the nimrods. Assuming they are compromised, and that the compromisers can use basic encryption, I don't think our guys will have time to decrypt them before they arrive (those things are FAST, right?). Even if we land, first, they're going to blow up our ride (and probably kill our pilot, as well as cut of our transport. We could try active jamming of our own, but the onboard pilot programs could still track us down if we've already been spotted, and they've already been instructed to attack. Seems like we have a choice between having our transport blown up in the air, or on the ground. On the ground, we may have time to get out of them first... I'll probably post something to this effect shortly.

Also, am I reading the descriptions of the men correctly, in that we are arriving on the scene with something like 79 men in two skytrains? Are skytrains helicopters or planes?
BlackHat
Also, do we have parachutes? (I knew that 1 rank in parachuting would come in handy)
BlackHat
And, rereading the pilot's description, there is some activity near the school building to the NE (which I believe is Tango Niner, anyway)... so that might be a good place to consider starting to look for our wayward troops, if we didn't see any fire/smoke/flares on the way in.
BlackHat
One more question. At this point, we're not being jammed, right? That comes once we get closer? Or have we already switched to short-range microwave transmissions?
BlackHat
Okay, IC up. I'm happy to edit anything if I made any mistakes. smile.gif

As we approach the school (assuming we make it that far), I'd like Cptn. Roberts to look over the area (either through vehicle sensors, or just out the window) looking for any further signs of activity that might lead them to the primary team.
