Here is my WIP. No idea what to ask for as far as requisitioned items. Some ammo/grenades at least!
Also, I picked up the Deep Watch PACKS package, but I think the armor will encumber me.
Captain Jon Roberts
Background:
[ Spoiler ]
Jonathan Roberts was a rising star in the UCAS military. He had not seen a lot of combat, and had not set foot in most of the areas of operation, but he had basic training, and a personality helped him make a good impression and stand out from his peers. He was quickly promoted (too quickly, some might say) and put in charge of a small unit, which he typically led from tacnet - providing overwatch from the Matrix. He showed an aptitude for electronic and cyber warfare, and preferred to interact with his men through an AR or VR interface. This, coupled with his relative inexperience and young age, could have easily given him the reputation for being the sort of leader who was content to issue commands from the safety of HQ while their men were out dying in the field. Those under Cptn. Roberts’s command, however, all thought fairly highly of his tactical decisions and his ability to maintain situational awareness from behind the front lines. His military career was cut short, however, when the team’s tactical network was infiltrated during an engagement with unexpectedly skilled hackers. Cptn. Roberts was forced to put his theoretical knowledge of cyberwarfare to the test, leading a few of his men against the invaders in cybercombat. When the dust settled, the network had been crashed, and he had suffered severe neural trauma from high levels of (near)lethal simsense. It was only because his body had been safely back at HQ that he was able to receive the medical attention he needed, in time. A number of his men died, that day, from similar conditions.
The now-scorched Captain was in the hospital for several months recovering, and had been relieved of his command. Afterwards, although a psychological checkup showed that he was mentally stable, a physiological checkup showed that he had suffered minor brain damage. His superiors insisted that he voluntarily step down from command, and shortly thereafter, he was honorably discharged from duty.
Jon Roberts had a hard time readjusting to civilian life, but managed to do so for a year before he was contacted by agents of Deep Watch. The mercenary group had been examining his military career since his discharge, and were interested in offering him a position within one of their units. Once again, Jon Roberts’s ability to make a good impression and sheer luck seem to overshadow his inexperience (and new handicap). Since then, Cptn. Roberts has been serving as an officer in Deep Watch, coordinating multiple units and putting his knowledge of computer systems and electronic warfare to good use against cyberterrorist cells across the world.
Concept: Ex-Military Captain, now Deep Watch mercenary
