Well, the idea is that the files will be dealt with quickly, otherwise there's no point risking communication. I'd like them readable and looked at by the decker before Ghost hits the roof (and therefore before Trogdor floats to lev -2 if that's what he's going to do). If that's not enough time, then before Ghost enters lev -2. If it's not even possible to do during the duration of the run, then the decker shouldn't bother.
Talia Invierno
Definite "probably not" within that timeframe. All things are potentially possible, of course - but whoever it is would need one heck of a task pool!

QUOTE

That's why I mentioned groups when asking about contacts. Could a group do it and can the decker have a group as a contact (level 2 or 3, for trust purposes)? If it's doable, I want it done.

I'm hoping it's the exact location of the target, map, and all passcodes for security; and not just some huge cache of troll porn. Even if it tells what the team is up against (or confirms what they're not against) it'll be useful.
Talia Invierno
Considering the trust issue, I'm putting this one on ice (just until tomorrow!) to see if anyone else has any major objections - or, barring that, has some contact groups to suggest. Since Solitaire is not an otaku, I don't know that an otaku tribe qualifies as particularly trustworthy in this context ...?
Entropy Kid
I almost forgot about Diamond's contacts. He might know someone who can help.

The trust can be held several ways, I don't particularly care how. Maybe it's professional code, they never reveal information about a client (in this case, Solitaire or Diamond), or maybe they're best friends/relatives, or it's fear of retribution (burn Solitaire, get burned worse), or just a one-shot favor owed. Anything will do. The reason for a reliable contact is to keep things quiet, after all the run has to be covert in every way.

It's not critical, but an option I think is worth exploring. Especially because it doesn't directly endanger any of the team (I did say securely and discretely, otherwise no-go) or the run itself.
Raiko
QUOTE
Raiko: I think everyone would like! If someone else wants dibs on one of those two, I'll assume they'll speak up by tomorrow.

I'll start working on both characters, but I'll stop work on any character that someone else wants to create.

QUOTE
I think you already had a signal relay system in place? (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

I think the current relay system, using the spider drones, is only to pass radio messages to Ghost if / when she's in the basement levels. Rigger control of the spiders isn't a problem as they are being "hardwired" to the roof, but this couldn't be used to control any combat drones operating in the (rumoured) -2 level as rigger control signals can only be relayed using the retransmission unit, which is too big (1CF + any power amps) to fit into a micro spider drone.

So I think I'd design Advent with at least one of the rotor relay/combat drones, a retransmission drone is always useful to a rigger anyway, because as well as extending your range they add complimentary dice to MIJI tests if their coverage overlaps your decks. However...

QUOTE
A quick reminder that -2 is more rumour than fact. You're fairly sure that they are doing excavating there, but you haven't yet found a floor to match it. The parking garage does not go down to -2.

... they may not be useful to the current situation, if we can't get combat / evac drones down to -2 ( if -2 exists ). And you can't fit a Westwind in a lift frown.gif , even if you are a rigger. Still in an emergency it could be used to evac Ghost and the girl if they make it as far as the parking area, or at least provide a diversion as they head for the ground floor or roof.

If Advent can afford two of the roto drones, one could act as a relay / provide fire-support in the parking area, while the second goes through the elevator to the level -1 corridor or to -2 to give some heavy support for Ghost.

QUOTE
Re Advent's equipment: such vehicles and drones as were already fixed (ie. used in this adventure) I reposted earlier in this thread (Aug 16 2003, 09:49 PM).

I've already read all the posts, including those on the old forum, so I've seen the equipment that's already fixed.

On the topic of Solitaire's contacts analysing the data, one of the example contacts in Matrix is "Researcher", they seem to be specifically made to give this kind of assistance, and would probably have access to a Mainframe to help them.

Another option would be a single otaku rather than a whole tribe, provided they have the Info Sortilage echo, this allows them to uncover clues, or buried facts in large amounts of data that other people wouldn't be able to find, and they only take 1-3 hours to do it, I think an otaku with this echo would make a tremendous contact for any decker. However it does require the otaku to have at least one submersion grade.

Could Solitaire have access to an otaku contact with submersion grade(s), maybe by paying level 2 or 3 contact prices, but only getting level 1 friendship.

Anyway it after 2am here, so I'm going to bed.
Crusher Bob
My preference would be for Trogdor to provide direct astral support to Ghost. Since the most 'feared' type of contact would be some sort of magical thingy, having them together makes them both much safer. If it becomes necessary to crash the wards, then then can both do so at the same time. Also, this makes communication much simpler and allows the rest of the team to comm via watchers if the radio goes out. (This is also a bit of a table-top habit, in that it makes the GM's job simpler, it might not really apply in this situation. but having a pair at the sharp end is typically better than having two singletons.)

As for Advent I was assuming the presence of 1-2 airborne combat drones waiting outside, as part of the two pronged assault plan. I think that the basic rotor-drone with light armor and Mg of some sort is pretty cheap.

Talia Invierno
Sleep is optional biggrin.gif

Sounds like we'll need to know exactly what all of the rigger's drones are. Don't forget the wörwagen! (It's waiting a few blocks up, as I recall) Unless there's any objection, I'll assume your relay system has been put in place, Raiko.

It's no problem for Trogdor to quickly find Ghost (should you agree upon that as your option). As you point out, Crusher Bob, this would place Trogdor within the linked radio network. Timeline comparison: at the time when Trogdor ran into the wageslave, Ghost would have just been entering the top floor airducts (more or less - close enough for these purposes). Would it be fair to hope that a short-term course of action (all actions taken up to and until Ghost reaches -1) could be decided upon by Monday?

I'll have about 4-5 more hours of in-and-out monitoring time on this today. Before I leave, if someone comes up with an appropriate contact (and reason, in this case) and if there's no objections (and if they succeed!): I'll summarise the filched files.

Beyond that, I'm gone until Monday. (And there was much rejoicing in the Lounge wink.gif )
Raiko
Sorry for the delay, my weekend was busier than expected.
Here is a full list of Advent's vehicles / drones.
I'll edit this post tonight with his stats, skill, etc.
I'll also add more details for the drones, and correct 1 or 2 minor errors I've noticed.
I'm posting from work so I don't have my books with me.

1 Ferret
1 Artemis Nightglider

The Rotodrones are currently in the Warwagon's drone rack, they can be launched while the wagon is moving if necessary, so this won't be a problem.
The "Eye in the sky" Condor in loitering 1500m above the target site, I'd like to send the transporter Condor to watch the local Lone Star precinct house after it's deployed the Ferret and 2 of the Arachnoids, as a backup to monitoring on the scanner.
The Westwind is parked up behind the Warwagon. Advents latest RC deck is rating 8 allowing 16 drones on the subscriber list, with 8 affiliated at once.
The 8 currently affiliated are: the Warwagon ( hardwired), the 2 condors, the 2 Arachoids, the nightglider & one of each type of rotodrone (for immediate launch, if necessary).
One of the rotodrones will be disaffiliated while the Ferret is doing it's work.

Advent is currently in captains chair mode monitoring these drones, and the scanner (via his RCD's intercomm).

-------------------------------------------------------

I've not done Solitaire yet but I'll get her done tonight or tomorrow, even if it means I don't get any sleep biggrin.gif
Her contacts will definitly include a researcher( level 2 ) and an otaku( level 1), the otaku will be paid for as a level 2 contact in order to have the info-sortilage echo.

The researcher is an old college boyfriend who's still a good enough friend to count as rating 2, he has access to a mainframe but might not be able to get back to us before Ghost goes in.

The okaku is a street contact, Solitaire worked as part of a team that protected his tribe from a local Triad group a year or so ago, she doesn't trust him any more than any other street contact, but he should be able to analyse the data faster than the researcher.

If nobody has any objections she can send the files to both contacts, to increase the chances of getting the data back in time.
Talia Invierno
Thanks, Raiko. I'll keep monitoring - leaving off most of the questions until you're done. (Looks like everyone's weekend was busier than expected biggrin.gif) I don't have my books with me either - what's the availability on a Roadmaster and Ingram Valiant LMG again? (I'll probably let it slide if it isn't too extreme - just want to know.)
Raiko
I've editted Advent's vehicle / drone list now.
Raiko
The availability of the Roadmaster is 3, it's a unarmoured civilian version of the citymaster, I guess it's like the civilian Hummer ( only bigger wink.gif )
The Ingram Valient is availability 6.
I'm pretty sure I've avoided any equipment with more than 8 availability.
There are some rating 8 items, these were all bought from the extra 600K not from starting funds.
Entropy Kid
If Solitaire had the "Friends in High Places" edge (2 points, p. 27 SRcomp) would that provide a contact that could analyze the file quickly enough (and not tell anyone)?

Good point. Now that Ghost has entered the building, Trodgor should probably stick with her.

A Former Lone-Star Drone Rigger, Advent left the Star three years ago when he realised that Lone Star aren't much better than the criminals that they chase, and that he could make much more money using his talents in the private sector. As he still has the idealism that made him join the Star in the first place, Advent will not take wetwork contracts, and will only use violence in defence, he also tends to use supressive fire or gel round first to make enemies seek cover, rather than killing them. Advent teamed up with Solitaire about one year ago ago shortly after she quit MCT, they have been running together since and are well versed at using micro drones to patch into offline matrix and CCSS systems.

Does "Friends in High Places" give the contact for free or is it applied to a contact bought normally from resources, I've only got the 2nd edition SRcomp, so I don't know if the description has changed.

Either way I'll apply the FiHP edge to Solitaire's Researcher contact, and make him one of the heads of R&D at a AA megacorp (probably Transys-Neuronet).

Talia Invierno
Thanks (for availability), sorry: I was getting the three "Master" series vehicles mixed up. I also left this until among later today because I wanted to think about what you'd written before answering. I'll basically go down the list and make notes as I run into them.

The changes to the Condor work. General Advent question: the bracketed skills apply when working through the VCR?

Bear in mind also that it's quite common Lone Star practice to send up their own drones, for parallel (if opposite) purposes. You should be all right with a signature 10, though.

Within what Raiko suggests for the researcher contact, probably yes to the first. The second's more debatable, but Solitaire hasn't spotted a single reference to Transys-Neuronet or any of its known subsidiaries in what information she's managed to pull up "loose". (Somewhere along the line Solitaire seems to have turned female. Fine by me biggrin.gif)

Regardless of canon, if you buy the edge I'll rule you get the contact for free. As per the discussion on the other thread, he obviously won't do anything to endanger Transys-Neuronet in any way, and there might possibly be other scruples.

In the interests of keeping this going, if no one's objected by 1830 board time or by the time you give me the researcher/old boyfriend's academic area, Raiko (whichever comes later), the files were sent to the otaku and the researcher for deciphering a few hours back. (Yes, I'm revising a bit of history in the team's favour. It's an examination of infiltration, not a strict run.)

Similarly, if no one's objected by Friday this time to Trogdor's finding and sticking with Ghost, that's what's happening - and I'll take the story from there.

Okay with everyone?

General Advent question: the bracketed skills apply when working through the VCR?

Yes, Advent controls all the vehicles including whichever one he happens to be in via the RCD (the warwagon & westwind both have electronic ports for an RCD). That way he can slip into captain's chair mode or direct control of a drone while his own vehicle is on the move.

...... or by the time you give me the researcher/old boyfriend's academic area, Raiko

Note that the researcher contact as given in Matrix specializes in sifting through databases, etc: hunting out information within their specialized subjects ( 10 knowledges at level 6 + database knowledge 6).
I've looked at the information about Transys-Neuronet in Man & Machine, and they seem to be very keen on researching cybermancy at their (2!) delta-clinics. As this contact is now a FiHP I'd like him to be part of the team at one of the delta clinics ( but this would be far too secret for him to let Solitaire know, she just knows that he works in a cybertech clinic R&D area). If this is ok then his knowledge skills would relate to a mixture of cybertech, biotech, computer & magical theory.
Raiko
I'll try to complete Solitaire tonight and post her details tomorrow.
Talia Invierno
Cyberware researcher certainly, but

I don't think so! As a former boyfriend that's a starting contact! spin.gif Although (in a way) one or more members of the team may already have a 'ware contact ... all depends on how this run goes.

Files cracked without losing too much to utility traps - yes, there were some - but those on it somewhat bogged down in account-ese. Personnel records are the easy part, but the rest makes a rather convoluted set of books and they're none of them MBAs. As of the time of run they've managed to figure out the following:

* This is in the process of becoming the new head office. The former head office, now becoming a branch, is that place in Georgia (former SSR). You also now have the location of several other branch offices throughout N. America and Europe, as well as the address of the warehouse in Odessa.

* This branch (you don't have the personnel records for the others) has an extremely high rate of personnel turnover.

* Solitaire's friend comments that most of the employees have unusual names for Seattle.

* As nearly as they can tell, this branch seems to be operating at a loss. It may have done so for a while, but the number-crunching is taking a while.

QUOTE

eek.gif Sorry, I was thinking more of the knowledge skill mix of cyber / magic from working on these teams rather than ever getting cyberware from the clinic, after all he would have been located in Europe at a clinic so secret that he would never reveal it's existance to Solitaire, and the clinic would only be used by T-N personel anyway, the players in my campaign don't even know there is such a thing as a delta-clinic biggrin.gif .
Still, since T-N are working in that direction anyway, I suppose he could have the same knowledge mix without being involved with the delta-clinics. smile.gif

Examples of names:

* Aghavni Choxeli

* Yavuz Papava

The first is female, the rest are male. The male/female ratio here is about 3:1.

The file just ends. No notation, no follow-up.

The wageslaves do have identification numbers that looked at first glance a good deal like SINs - but when you asked the question they checked a bit further, and it seems to be an internal catalogue system used by the business. In fact, they can't find a trace of a SIN in those initial random 25 you suggested. Now they're checking through the rest of the file to see if there's any SINs listed there.

Oh, and re Ghost: I still would like to know what equipment she has on her that's currently in active use (as opposed to being carried against its potential need).
Crusher Bob
Would guess that they are Georgian, Ukrainian, or something like that. We already know that the company already has move facilities there. If the team needs to do anything after this run, hitting the SIN databases over there might get something useful. If the employees are mostly 'illegals' then the records on them might not really be available.

As for Ghost: I would assume that she would have the manriki-gusari ready (since you can't quick draw it, and it takes till the end of the turn to get the narcojet going) with everything else 'ready to go'. Sigh, I miss the neat holster from Star Frontiers, that was a very expensive 'smart holster' that let you carry your gun in a 'quick draw' type arrangement, but wouldn't let it fall out (or someone else draw it). The response to being detected by guard(s) would either be 'advance and whip) or quickdraw pistol and shoot, depending on the circumstances. With Trogdor available to cover any magical threats, that should take care of most things (see my earlier concern about immunity to magical weapons). The pistol would be on a hip holster, with everything else strapped to the chest, thighs, or small or the back. "Does this make me look fat?" wink.gif
Talia Invierno
Thanks, Crusher Bob. I'll give it another 12-36 hours for objections (I'm not quite sure what my own free time is going to be like yet), and then I'll move to the next stage.

Solitaire worked for MCT for two years after leaving college, before deciding that a wage slave's life wasn't for her. She jumped ship and started to run the shadows, shortly afterwards she met up with Advent, they've been a partnership since then.

I guess Trogdor needs a kitten, or something so that everyone can be paired up.

Does anyplace in that region have a high background count, and will growing up in a high background count area make you aura looked 'washed out'? Any other ideas about the people if we assume they grew up there?

A quick link up with the 2060's equivalent of babblefish might be in order. Alas, the days of shouting "Halt, state security!" and getting your mark to piss themselves are long gone...

A lot of this info will probably only be useful in the AAR of the run, since there is little time available to do data searches.

So the names dont make sence in a Russian based grammar.
Is that accidental or deliberate? If deliberate, the T-N people might pick up on that since they're on the right side of the water; someone might speak the language or actually be from the area. Do they catch that?

Diamond and Trogdor both had Magic Theory at 4, but only Trodgor saw the wageslave, what did he make of that?

Note thats just my opinion on the matter based on my current knowledge, perhaps in 60 years they have changed a lot of naming customs... I mean how many people in the US do you know named Razor or T-bird, or Solitare or Advent... LOL

Besides Talia might have been making up random names just to fit the senario.. in which case they could be French for all it matters nyahnyah.gif

Actually, you'd be surprised -- "River Pheonix" leaps to mind.

Although street names or handles aren't uncommon today which are just glorified variants of nicknames.

Sorry, Talia keeps getting pulled away ...

Good ... you've covered a couple of the utilities at slightly more than the levels I'd assumed in the earlier system co-opting and file retrievals. And "typical program load out" is very useful to know, as well as standard database access. Relatively very specialised in the decking/Matrix aspects of computer-ese though - in some ways just as well you got the others to help you break those files. "Sensitive system" was a nervy flaw to take for a non-Awakened type ... be interesting to develop personality further within that context. (We already know she sometimes gets snappish biggrin.gif)

Generally, this is a high-CH (and high # of contacts) team! Not that I'm objecting in any way ... but after the amount of objection in other threads as to how CH is basically a "useless" attribute? (Maybe it was that sudden image of "babes" in tight leather jackets biggrin.gif)

Only if it's an astral kitten wink.gif Although he's a Dragonslayer shaman - what was it, everyone's "boisterous younger brother"? But oh, the images that you've just made possible ...

The ethnicity as picked out was deliberate. (I'm a bit surprised no one picked up on the source of those names! ... and a bit relieved no one here turned out to actually have them.) I'd tried to imply that none of your file-breakers found them familiar through the earlier "finding the names strange" comment. Who was it who had "Russian" as a language - Trogdor? He'll have as much of an idea of their ethnicity as what you've already speculated. He'll know vaguely of some places "out there somewhere" that he's heard have background count, but he'll not know the details at all beyond that. (He's never been there himself, ditto anyone he knows.) Your researcher friend will probably groan - seems there's at least a few isolated areas in that part of the world that aren't even Matrix-civilised yet. (Could also explain why no one in his cohort speaks the language themselves.)

Nice catch, phelious fogg: the names aren't Russian-grammar based. The absolute closest you got to that grammar - and the easiest to translate - was that most of the accounting notations seem to have been done in a rather archaic Ukrainian. (Personally, I find that language difficult to understand from a Slavic perspective - too much Greek mixed in. I suspect Trogdor would have similar problems and worse - he doesn't seem to be accounting-oriented at all.) If you want, you can have gotten a low-level knowsoft (3-4 is the highest that is readily available) in any Turkish-family language - the main language of written communication is still a bit different than that, but you won't be operating at worse than a +2 to TN). That's part of how the team is breaking the files. They think there might also have been a few e-mail equivalents in that last one - had they been in English they could already have been given to you.

Oh, and were you picking up those drones via elevator as originally suggested (will significantly increase total time down) or are they being recovered some other way?
phelious fogg
I was thinking they were turkish.. sweet.. Ukranian isnt so bad.. the rules are just slightly off... Same with Gorgian.. or Serbian.. or.. Well okay.. they are all pretty closely related..

I mean if you think about it they all originate in greek, word origens are similar. Thats why they have some older cognates with english (not stuff like computer, but stuff like stool, divan, etc.) The spelling rules are different, same with inflections (declinsion classes, verb forms) but overall you can probably figure out what a person is talking about if they speak Ukranian and you speak Russian.. It might take a while, but you could even pick up the grammar in a few weeks..

Now if its turkish and ukranian that leaves the border countries between russia and turkey.. might be Iranian... but thats probably too Arabic.. Kazikhstan might be more likely.. or Turkmenistan... Just some thoughts...
Crusher Bob
AS ofr naming conventions, the names given for the team would be their 'street' names which follow a different naming convention than 'normal names'. IRL I've been Ogre, Cat, and Big Dog and known: PTC, Peg-Boy, Minoc, Bird, and a KCN all of which were names not directly derived from the real name.

Advent and Solitaire are both computer game references, and Torgdor is, well, Trogdor (the burninator!).

The araknoids had their range increased to 5km in Rigger3, and can move 2m per combat turn. Even taking obstacles into account, an elevator shaft or air-duct is quite fairly open terrain to a 10cm drone and so I can't see them taking more than 30mins to an hour to reach the roof ( they could travel 1200m over flat, open terrain in 30mins).

So I'd say to use the original plan, providing Ghost evades detection, and send the "transporter" condor back to the roof for them. The warwagon doesn't need to stay too close to the target building for this final stage, as in a friendly environment (ie no jamming / no need for ECCM) it can boost the RCD's flux high enough to give up to 30km range, even in an urban area.

If the drek hits the fan and Ghost has to fight her way out, I really can't see any way of recovering the drones safely, but that would be the least of our worries.

I'm sorry I can't add anything to the linguistics debate, but putting my metagame head on for a minute, Earthdawn was iirc set between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, these would seem to be likely places for a shadowrun archeology company to be digging.

Lets just hope there's no Horrors in the basement. devil.gif

I'm sorry. Meant to get back to this earlier, but life things kept getting in the way. (Thanks for the interrum answers!)

All right - fast forward. (Tell me if I missed anything.)

The first gang has arrived. The mood's getting really ugly out there - Diamond might soon find himself in the middle of something that is quickly becoming more than just a distraction. They're only just reaching the area, but shots have already been fired, and they aren't all blanks. (Shot-out streetlights - and the city plans you'd pulled up earlier was showing that they had only recently been restored.) He's also spotted knives, chains, a couple of swords that had been hidden under coats before. A couple of the gangers have started snick-snicking cyberspurs. (That's really about the extent of the cyber they have - a few odd razors and spurs. Some of it might even be seconds.) One ganger has a habit of scratching at her spur-sheaths, she seems to find them increasingly an annoyance. Diamond wasn't really going to ask that question - he closed his mouth quickly after he was met with a suddenly extended spur with the points almost touching his face. He's trying to hang back a bit, detach himself from the gang, but he's not yet found the opportunity. They've got him well ringed around, and so far they've been sweeping him along. There's always other options, of course ... not to mention the elementals he has on call. (Does the gang know he's a mage? None of them seem to be magically active.)

Advent reports on the guard office. (Solitaire is a bit distracted at the moment, but still has access to those cameras if needed.) For now they've decided to ignore the gang activity unless it gets worse or shows signs of penetrating the fence - they're hoping that if the gangers aren't provoked further it might blow over before it's time for the cleaners to leave, or maybe if they're looking for trouble the gang might decide to go hunt it up somewhere else if they can't get it here. Diamond knows that at this point they most definitely are looking for trouble - they'll take it where they can get it, but he'd gotten them well and truly focused here first. If the other gang doesn't arrive fairly soon and this place proves to be a dud, Diamond is starting to think that they might start looking in his direction next ...

At one point the guards were discussing whether to bring in the night shift early - one of them looked distinctly uneasy when the proposal was brought up. They decided it wasn't necessary for now - things were still under control. ("Jatro'll be feeding the doggies about now." "They can have 'em. Those things give me the creeps!" and yes, the exchange is in English.) They're all really focused on the outside scene at this point - two of them have gone upstairs to check out the situation through the windows. (Not a usual patrol pattern.)

Ghost (with an astral Trogdor) swoops down to -1. The front doors open automatically into the parking lot - and just for a moment Trogdor is nearly swept through the back doors. (Not really that strong, at least not steadily - just the sudden arrival into a main part of the current and a distinct "wave" which just swept by. But it's a constant "tug".) The sound of the fans down here is quite loud, you'd have to shout loudly to be heard at any distance. An odd smell down here - turgid air with something faint and just a little sweet in the background.

Solitaire had already looped previously to keep the elevator sensors from picking up Ghost's presence (wouldn't have alarmed this early, but would have recorded), mentions that two of the guards have passed Ghost in one of the other elevators on the way up - they looked like they heard the passing elevator but they're not really paying attention, they get off at the fifth floor and head for the front windows. The other two are still in the security office. Solitaire's having a bit of trouble overriding the back -1 door: Ghost's "acquired" passcard doesn't work for this. Security tally 3 and counting - there's some hidden tar there. "Tar. Why does it always have to be tar?" It gets up to 5 before Solitaire has the back doors open: the rayed corridor you saw earlier. The current's along one of the rays. And - is that footsteps coming toward you from down there? And something a bit squeaky?

Advent informs the group that the guard at the building under construction has moved into a clear transmission area and has flipped open his wrist telephone.

Time check: 2040 (five minutes after the last full update - p.2). Overall, because some things went much more smoothly than expected, you're ahead of your original schedule. The first gang (with Diamond) is definitely ahead of schedule. The second one - well, they're not running late yet.

The one drone which nearly fell into the grilled vent has a very nice close-up view of hellhound teeth: they're awake now, and they definitely know something's there. Judging by what you know of the regular schedule, they're due to be taken out in about twenty minutes (cleaners leave, shift change). The drone's catching another sound above their snarling though - sounds like a key in a lock somewhere very close ...

Can advent hear the conversation on the scanner, if not he'll use the shotgun mike on the condor drone, loosing altitude if necessary.

Also can Advent see any sign of the second gang, the condor should be able to spot them from a way off at it's current altitude (1500m).

Is the second condor in sight of the Lone Star precinct house yet?
Talia Invierno
Certainly Advent will probably be able to overhear the conversation. I worded it as I did in case anyone wanted to take an action before the call was made.

Yes to the second and third questions. ETA on second gang based on current location and apparent speed of transport: somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. No activity yet out of Lone Star.
Entropy Kid
Well, the basics then: let Diamond know that gang-2 is coming so he can inform the leaders and have them pull in the reigns on the gang-1.
QUOTE

Might as well have Trogdor take a look. If it can see him, then it would have seen Ghost.
Talia Invierno
Diamond lets the gang leaders know. They're probably in as much position to pull the reins in on their gang as Diamond himself - at this point they're out for trouble too.

Trogdor spots a male elf coming up the corridor with a wheelbarrow half-full of full sacks (from the way they're lying you'd assume they were full of grain or powder) ... and he's dual-natured. Not astrally perceiving, actually dual-natured, Trogdor's never seen that type of aura before and he's (probably?) not sticking around right now to examine in detail. Fortunately for Trogdor, the elf's not really paying attention, so he was able to duck out of the way before being noticed. The elf seems to be heading straight for the elevators. (Since the corridors do radiate, there are also duck-out-of-the-way possibilities for Ghost.)

Earlier layout (insofar as you were able to get it for this area) suggests that the hellhound kennel is further up the same corridor - there's still that one drone which can barely see them through the grilling, unless you've recalled it.

Fyi I'll be checking today and every day until this Saturday, then I'm gone for the next three weeks until mid-October. I'll be checking in each Saturday though and updating as well as I can.

Am I reading this correctly? Is the current down the same ray as the approaching elf/dual natured critter.

I'd guess that Ghost will duck out of way for now, as we're trying to stay undetected.

QUOTE

Can the drone still hear or see anything other than the hellhounds? Is there a possibility that the key noise was made by the elf, or was the key heard at the same time as the footsteps?

Damn, it's already almost Friday here. Enjoy yourself, wherever you're going. smile.gif
Talia Invierno
You understood correctly.

The key was heard at the same time as the footsteps, and it's turning.

Dual-natured elf you saw passes you - you're close enough to see him insert a key and turn it as he presses the call button. Aura suggests he's a bit surprised when it opens immediately, but he wheels the wheelbarrow into the elevator and the doors close behind him. (It's just big enough, but he wouldn't have turning room.) You don't hear the whirr of the elevator going up, though. Instead, Ghost hears (barely) the sound of the doors opening on the other side.

Alas, it's a duty thing, not a vacation thing, but thanks for the thought.

* This branch (you don't have the personnel records for the others) has an extremely high rate of personnel turnover.

Theory; Some new Big Bad has taken over this complex. It changes people possibly as a precurser to some sort of invasion. The source of change is located right here, that's why it's becoming the head office, so it can direct activities, and that's why there is a high turnover rate, people are being tainted and new bodies come in to expand the group of recruits.

Me too. Personally I've been pretty busy this week, I'll try to post more often over the weekend.

So you now know it's there, you know it goes along one of the rayed passages (and you haven't been able to spot anything that goes along any of the other rayed passages - I'll assume you were looking for it), you've got a bit of visual and audio insofar as the drone's sensory magnification allows, you've seen a bit down the new duct corridor (and so far as you can tell it is just the one passage), you've caught a glimpse of the kennel, you can hear what sounds like a fan further down, and you think there might be one or two vertical shafts further down.

I'd say we should leave one drone watching the kennel, and send the other one down the closest of the vertical shafts. Hopefully this will lead to level -2, indicating that access to that level may be down this corridor, but beyond the hellhound kennel.

When the drone first arrived at level -1 Talia mentioned that they picked up the sound of digging, now that Ghost / (Astral) Trogdor are down here can they get any more detailed info about the sound ( eg direction, etc).

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for Trogdor to have a (very cautious) peek into the parking area at the other side of the lift to see what the elf is up to, or is it better for Ghost and Trogdor to press on together, before the elf comes back. Personally I'd prefer Trogdor to have at least a quick look.

I'm not too worried about Lone Star either, but I think it's best to keep an eye on the precinct house anyway. If they repond to the gang rumble, their response is likely to quickly escalate to teams in citymasters, as two gangs scrapping it out are likely to be a bit too much for a couple of blue and whites. The availability restrictions of the run ment that nobody has any mundane weapons that can damage a citymaster.

This won't matter if the run goes as planned, but if Ghost has to fight her way out of the building, a couple of citymasters would be a compication, so I'd rather have as much advanced notice of any heavy Lone Star response as possible. We can also then use the two condors to keep track of the progress / ETA of any heavy response, if it is sent.

Trogdor is astral inside the building, so no information there. I'll assume Diamond has taken a few astral perception glances. The auras of the various gang members around him don't show as "washed out" at all - they're as normal as it gets in the Barrens, if much more highly emotionally spiked. Based on his Magic Theory and Forensics (Magical) knowledge, he's guessing that the emotional undertones associated with any gang "rumble" are probably being magnified by the influence of the area. There were a couple of great form spirits and elementals on tap, but I don't think they had been called into active service yet?

No current sounds of digging. (IIRC - don't have the time to check just now - the information re sounds of digging was actually received via Ork Underground connections?) However, just as you hear the other side elevator doors open again, you do catch a sudden bout of choking coughing coming from the same direction (think a really vicious case of bronchitis, the kind that sounds like they're about to throw up a lung). As Trogdor and Ghost (more or less instinctively!) glance in that direction, they spot a small clump of hair (unattached! it's not like it's part of someone's head!) caught in the elevator doors on the floor (your side).

We may want to hold going down to the next level until the other gang gets here and the confusion would hopefully begin to set in... Another 10-15 min spent just waiting might not be too bad a choice; How do things stand for time? Also, waiting until the hellhounds are outside (rather than inside) may be worth it. If things go bad they should be simple enough to pick off out on the grounds, while fighting them inside the building would be messy (though they are dual natured right?, Trogdor would be able to blast them).
