QUOTE (Dr_Dro)
Where do you guys meet? And do you have room for one more?
Dr_Dro
Ouch, Gaithersburg, how often do you meet?
Sren
We most definately have room for one more. We generally meet every other Saturday unless too many people can't make it or I have a Mini's tournament to play in.

Hmmm... the story so far is:
You guys were all raise to be super soldiers in Azzie country/corp (AZ). You escaped and ended up in Seattle (SEA), where you fought off multile attempts to retrieve or kill you guys, got involved in multiple bug-hunts, started cleaning up a section of glow city, started a magic group, obtained your own hideout (started an apartment compllex by using a well-connected contact to legitimize purchases and provide a front/shell corp to make it look legal, but you guys have to pay for anything unusual yourself), and assisted in the retrieval to two powerful atrifacts, one of which was stolen by AZ goons after you handed it over to a patron, and another of which to couriered to Dunkie on the night he got elected, a few scant hours before he got assassinated.

After hearing about the bounty on blood mages, you all decided to go get some revenge for the abuse you suffered as children, and the ongoing fights with Azzies either chasing you or interfering with your goals and contacts. And the money isn't exactly unwelcomed either.

The group currently has a plan to get into the facility they were raised on (a military base), and find/capture suspected blood mages, preferably without any real combat, and a plan to escape if they get caught. I'm not sure they have a plan for what to do when they have a handful of unconscious bodies they intend to escape with.

Dr_Dro: Each of the players has two characters, there were originally twelve characters (two players have since vanished and one moved otu-of-state, only one of the lost players has been replaced). If you'd like to join us, I'll just have you replace two of the other characters whose players' vanished (you get to make your own characters, but the rest of the group will see the people they already escaped with). All of the characters are super soldiers, and were born with bioware already a part of their bodies, which makes them far more powerful than normal people. All of the remaining character are magical (some had latent magic when the game started). Since it is a high-power & high karma game, I strongly suggest making at least one magical character because the unlimited advanement potential of magical characters will let them outshine non-magical characters. The current date is only 2057, so the wireless matrix does not exist, niether to technomancers. Rigging and decking is still complicated and requires a lot of gear that isn't in the SR4 book (so if you want to make a hacker or rigger, please realize that the gear isn't yet available, and you've only recently finished growing (the characters are onlly 17-19 years old) so cyberware has only recently become a vaible option for you to consider. So far, none of teh characters have any cyberware, and the bioware you have does not cost essense (however, I am having it limit the ammount of future biowaare implants if any).

Here's what I have for character creation: (Spend 550 karma normally AFTER creating the character, and you can spend 210 of your starting build points on attributes. You can raise skill above 4 with karma, just not with build points. The PCs already have a magical group your character(s) can join, and they have some extra foci your characters can have (you'll have to ask them what they have available)).
Points: 300 (the recomended ammount for a gang level campaign, which should approximate well-trained teenagers)
Limits: No skill above 4, no cyberware, don't spend points on cash/gear as such things will be issued by your employer/creator(s) to start the game.
Bonus (training): Start with the following skills, subject to the normal rules: Athletic group 4, Outdoors Group 2, Perception 4, Dodge 4, Escape Artist 2.
Bonus (metavarient: supersoldier): Choose 400,000 nuyen worth of bioware that you were born with. Calculate standard essense loss for this bioware, however, your character will never actually suffer essense loss from this bioware, but it will limit total essense value of all of your bioware to six (in case you decide to get further augmentation after play starts). You cannot get bone density augmentation or enhanced articulation as supersoldier bioware, but may spend your 400,000 nuyen on such ware (but lose essense normally for it).

I hope you join us. Its a strange game, but everyone seems to like it most of the time.

additional ideas i had today ... we need to ruin theyre air support while we are there assuring our escape.(ie bombs/what not)placed in case were discovered
we ought to jam theyre communications (this should be done the instant we are discovered) IF we are.
if we can take out theyre riggers thatd be good so no drones chase us.

also while we are there we may want to try and find/destroy all theyre material links they got (unless we want to take a few) maybe to hold over theyre heads
ALSO ive just realized/read the extra perception dice can be used for assensing tests sren youll have to decide if you actually need assensing to make use im not sure ..but i plan on giving horizon it soon
i suggest if we need a distraction we can have a fire elemental create a huge fire in the woods as thatd draw enemy attention assuming were using smoke as a cover thats all for now

More Questions for the GM: Swoop tells the group about the ship that he and his spirits captured, and asks, "What now?"

Han asks the smugglers if they are interested in looting the cargo, or siezing the ship? Han wishes they had some evidence of the pirate attack. Did all the dead bodies fall overboard, or are any left on deck.

Swoop asks his water spirit to retrieve the body and gear of the mage that Han killed.

Han asks the group who wants to go over to the pirate ship in their Zodiac Boat. He invites the first mate of the smuggler ship to go along, too. Han figures the least they can do is examine the manifest.

What do Derric and Serric think, say, and do? Ditto, the smugglers, and their first mate?

You should ask Mistri (or Maven) to join Dumpshock, and start posting.

we ought to keep the new boat for treasure hunting in the future . we also ought to find out if the crew members that tried the ambush have any useful info/contacts

diamond makes sure he has enough explosives to take out some aircraft and vehicles ready to go and also find a way to locate where on base(if we dont know)
the communications equipment is located.

maven wants to learn heal from someone
De Badd Ass
QUOTE (crimson ronin)
maven wants to learn heal from someone

Swoop is incompetent at Instruction (uncouth flaw), so he can't do it. He could have a Spirit of Man teach her when we get back to Seattle. We don't have a Magical Lodge aboard ship, so she can't learn now. She might need a Spell Formula if she is being taught by a Spirit; that would be up to Sren.

Warning: Magic doesn't heal Drain.
Sren
Crimson: Where do you find explosives capable of taking down an aircraft? You guys didn't tell me you somehow managed to set up your missile shop on the smuggler's ship (There isn't enough room anyways).

FOR THE SHIP: Are you ready to make a name as pirates yourselves? You have a prisoner you know is a pirate, but have no evidence of a crime (the boat you're on only has limited cameras because of their own illegal activities). So when the authorities get there, all you have is a prisoner who isn't willing to face corporate justice so he'll lie. And a confession will be seen as suspect and someone will check for magical tampering. Air support will get there in less than an hour (the pirate boat was huge, and has a few thousand 40-foot containers), nothing illegal, mostly cheap junk (toys and clothes) with a "made in [place cheap labor marker here]" logo. There are several containers of Foreign-made motorsycles (both street and off-road bikes), and depending on how long you search, the supplies of weapons and armor used by the crew when they were out pirating. (A few dozen AK-97s with underbarrel grenade launchers, a couple crates of ammo, over a hundred mini-grenades, and lots of personal sidearms (all the normal pistols are represented). There's stuff to steal, and dependign on who actually owns the boat, a lot of risk for stickign around too long. The smuggler's don't plan on sticking around because they don't want to be caught by any legitimate or corporate authorities with a combat chopper (the autocannon you guys have is illegal everywhere except in the hands of a propper military).
A quick run-down of the manifest doesn't show anything that catches your eye, but the smuggler's suggest that maybe one or two (not enough to be missed before its too late) containers get pushed overboard. He they be prevented from sending otu a distress call, and had you been able to take the boat without getting any violence on camera, they maybe thhey'd help you make it look like an accidental sinking so they could propperly salvage anything worth while. A quick review of security cameras shows the pirates are careful not to let anything suspicious get caught on security cameras, and having assault rifles to repel pirats isn't that unusual. These guys were either extremely lucky (before meeting you) or very professional, just not prepared for a ready spirit army.

GM NOTES on piracy: With advanced air technology and availability of magic, boats are rarely more than a couple hours from help, often only minutes before some form of help can arrive after a distress call is made. Pirate attacks need to be fast, so typically the attack has to be well planned, and target are usually picked for a reason, not just targets of opportunity. The smugglers you're with are carrying three containers of legit cyberware, and six containers of "authentic" hand-crafted tools which are currently all the rage in Azzy home decoration. They also have three containers of common medical supplies to drop off before reaching Aztlan. Their illegal goods are hidden in various places around the ship (every "nook and cranny" is filled with combat gear and additional medical supplies, enough to fill two containers and some hidden among the legal goods in the other containers). And the combat helocopter you guys have could fetch a good sum on the black market.

As for Serric and Derric, they are cowards compared to you guys most of the time. Their opinions are to let the ally spirits loot what they can carry, and send the boat off in another direction. Make sure to have one of the astral mages wipe their astral signatures before anyone arrives. Kill the prisoner(s). IF someone wants a couple containers pushed over the side, they recommend the containers on the edges (front and back) so that it isn't quickly obvious that there are missing containers when their help arrives. Make sure to try and disable any electronic tracking devices before dumpign so that its difficult for the authorities to recover the containers.

i meant to use explosives on aircraft to make them unusable for pursuit ie bomb on an engine or a wing
crimson ronin
diamond asks derric/seric if a spirit can accident all the air vehicles at once or in succession if were detected as thatd be way faster than the bomb planting route
crimson ronin
would we have any ideas about anything(other than the bloodmages) of high value there like special vehicles or magical gear?
also i emailed you a question sren which has nothing to do with our current situation/adventure

WELCOME!
Sren
Welcome Agdevil,

I'm the GM. I've got a post at the top of this page (page 17) that has character creation rules and quick plot summary. We meet every other Saturday, and could use a couple more players. We're meeting at OR this Saturday, I don't know how early I can be there, but we almost always start before 6pm. I try to get there by three or four, but sometimes I don't quite make it.

On that note, Crimson and DBA, are you both going to be here this Saturday?
De Badd Ass
I plan to be there before 4 PM. Sure would be nice to see two new players this week, Agdevil and Dr. Dro. WELCOME !!!
crimson ronin
i will try to make 3pm and mistri/maven too
De Badd Ass
Hey, Dr. Dro! I'm glad you made the session, and I hope to see you back next time. It was good to see Mistri again as well. Two sessions, two new players. Things are really looking up in '07 sofar.
crimson ronin
just occured to me while driving home that diamonds snake could safely recon the inside of the hangar also if diamond drove th van and ran inside he could get everyone insides attention while everyone else got into an aircraft
crimson ronin
how many spirits/elementals does the group currently have? i have formulated a plan ill post after i find out i think its a good plan but it involves them based on theyre number then ill post it for all to see and pick at
Sren
Serric and Derric have a total of 4 Force 6 Greatform Fire Elementals, 4 Force 8 Greatform Air Elementals and 2 Force 8 Greatform Earth Elementals. Plus they each have a force 9 Ally Spirit.

GM Notes: The "distraction plan" is also known as the "get 'em ready plan" so you need more than just "I'll cause a ruckus somewhere and then run away" as a distraction. The enemy here isn't stupid, and they have the resources to cover much of the base with spirits and/or gunfire, so if you want to draw their attention away, you need to do something drastic enough that they cannot spare the resources to deal with the distraction and the real job.

IC: What you can see: The hangar is huge, more than a mile long, and about a half-mile wide at the south end. There are multiple doors, but the main door faces northwest and is placed in the middle of the building. You can generally see two gorups of two jeeps patrolling the south and east side of the base. Astrally, the place is as lit up as ever, you can generally see a dozen spirits patrolling at any given time, and an hour of watching shows more than two dozen distinct spirits, although its rare to be able to get more than a dozen in view at any given time.

At nromal speeds, it takes two to three minutes for each jeep patroll to pass. Without magical aid, it would take at least a minute for additional ground vehicles to arrive, five minutes for people on foot to arrive, and at least two minute for air vehicles (they have at least a one minute startup time). There should be guards inside, and in a building that encloses almsot a square mile, their could easily be a thousand people inside and you'd rarely see anyone (that's less than two people per square acre). You knwo there are barracks inside, but you don't know how many people are there all the time, exacly how many vehicles, or their state of readiness.

POSSIBLE DISTRACTION TACTICS: Start kidnapping mages again, only intentionally get caught; this might attract most of the magical assets. Do something to attract air assets so that they get the vehicles ready befor eyou attack, and then take the readied vehicles...

More to come, please discuss.
De Badd Ass
OOC: I apologize for being distracted yesterday by the loss of Swoop's character sheet. Something was bothering me about the layout of the base, and I was too distracted to concentrate on it then.

IC: Swoop comes out of his funk and comments, "It seems like we have two groups with two separate objectives. One group wants to steal planes, the other group wants to exact revenge, and the two groups can't agree on a plan. And then there's me. My objective is to stay alive.

"If you just want revenge, I got a plan:
  • Wait until the hanger door is open.
  • Drive up to the hanger door.
  • Mages enter the hanger
  • Summon our fire elementals.
  • Set fire to everthing.
  • Get in the van
  • Drive away.
"Like Han, it bothered me that the planes aren't spread out all over the field, and now I know why. They are just asking for this, putting all their planes in one hanger.

"On the other hand, the group that wants to steal can go after blood mages while the first group burns down the hanger full of planes. One blood mage is worth 3 Lobos."
crimson ronin
OK if we want revenge ie destruction we use earthquake/storm then pick off the stragglers....if we were just after money id say the bloodmages was better idea than stealing aircraft except my original idea for stealing aircraft was to sell it to azzy competition which would make a difference in our pockets and revenge...
HERES MY PLAN STEP BY STEP..
1.upon diamond and his snake verifying the contents of the hangar by sneaking close enough to it to have the snake sneak in it can climb to a high location to survey the hangars contents as far as vehicles and maybe some personnel at which point diamond can give thumbs up .
2.the van with everyone comes full speed to the main hangar door (interupt) if the ground sensors or the guns they trigger can be accidented were good or the van can use the road till last minute(assuming the gate cant be rammed)if not diamond can retrieve devices so the sensors/guns wont be triggered. horizon/diamond will find a manifest of which vehiicles are ready to go /under repair/fueled..horizon will survey the entire hangar for strategic opposition while swoop or derric or serric peek in astral(this action is to hopefully take out those that intend to alert everyone else).
3.diamond and horizon +everyones spirits engage all targets in the hangar everyone gets to a vehicle or begins fueling(if needed)and starts engines
4 the spirits "guard"and "conceal" all of us and craft accident the remaining vehicles and continue engaging enemies while we take off .
5.assuming the aircraft have autopilot once were in the air all mages/spirits engage pursuing mages/spirits... anyone see any holes here or got more to add?
Sren
"No plan survives contact with the enemy."
-Murphy's Rules of Combat

Current motivations: Revenge, Greed, Heroism.

Kidknapping blood mages is very profitable, and it hurts an enemy you want revenge on, and taking blood mages out of circulation does the whole world at least a little good. Not to mention, it makes you guys a little safer with more of them out of the picture.

Stealing vehicles will cause some minor damage to enemies, provide a little profit, possibly a lot of profit or some good toys, provide support to enemies of your enemies (assuming you sell to them), and make the enemies of your enemies a little safer. ot to mention, it would just be cool to get away with walking into a military base and steal several of their aircraft. If you want street cred, go buy video cameras, and film your exploit, make sure you do something to prove it was you, even if you hide your faces from the cameras (film of you stealing something unique during the run that you can show potential employers).

Destroying the base (if possible) could assist in getting rid of evidence of your identity, cost your enemies a lot of resources, scatter the super soldier program, and possibly win you both friends and enemies. Additionally, it will make the world a little safer by eliminating several blood mages and a ton of Azzy military assests, and give the rebels good motivaiton to fight on.

It is possible that you could work all of these goals in one fell swoop, but there's a lot of risk involved, and a lot of unknowns you will have to be able deal with on the fly. You should be able to guess that they are expecting people to try and kidknap blood mages, (the bounty was announced on international TV).

Stealing the aircraft could simply b a getaway plan, you can be sure that you will be chased by such when you try to make your escape, but fast aircraft being aided by spirits with "movement" would be difficult to catch. Destruction of the base wouldn't be total if you just used the storm and earthquate power, but rebuilding would take significant resources and time, and the Azzies would likely move any important programs elsewhere unless they had a really good reason to stay at that location.

So complete revenge would be hurting the Azzies, empowering their enemies, lining your pockets, getting away clean, and getting as many blood mages out of circulation as possible (by whatever means you can). Getting a useful aircraft in the process is just icing. (One of the helecopters would definately be useful). If you think you need more supplies and more IC time planning, you could jsut go home and spend another month planning and preparing too, other than the smugglers will want some sort of payment for bringing you down there and not etting anything out of it (their friend-of-a-friend deal to get aircraft from the axxies for the rebels is getting them a reward currently, so they aren't pushing for a real smuggling payment).

But, the final decisions are up to you guys. Serric and Derric plan to use the spirits to attack the base at some point. If you all decide to go home without attacking, they'll find a nice warded little hidey-hole and just send the spirits remotely to attack. But thats not anywhere near as satisfying as getting something more useful out of their desire for revenge (like cash or combat toys). There are other things on the Azzie base you might want to steal instead, if aircraft doesn't suit your fancy. You don't know where the militay armory is, but you might be able to find it. They should definately have some grade-A toys there, not to mention armor piercign ammo.

Just a thought

if anyone wants to steal bloodmages instead of aircraft or steal craft as a geteway or weapons or whatever else please post while we got planning time i still say storm/earthquake and picking off survivors is the safest there will still be items of value also maybe we can get info from important staff like account info or future plans
Mistri Maven
hi guys... new to this and all so please bear with me... but ive been looking over the posts and i still cant determine exactly which plan were supposed to be going with; also, have we come to a mutual agreement on our motivation? if so please share so that i can provide some input. in the interim, for the record, im all for levelling the whole base (minus an escape vehicle of some sort - preferably an air assault vehichle {attack helicopter??}) and sifting through the rubble "later". After all, mistri and maven may be shadowrunners but were also escaped abuse victims with superhuman abilities and we say that someone has to pay for the pain... the deader the better. willing to go along with a more passive plan of action, but massive amounts of destruction is our preference. biggrin.gif

Dro - sorry you won't be able to make it this weekend, but congratulations on your place and good luck with your move. Hope to see you next session.

Guys, I've been reading some of the old posts. Hoping to get more familiar and perhaps more comfortable with RP. Not quite finished yet (18 full pages... whew). It is sparking my creativity...

Just wanted to say thanks for bearing with the newbie.

As soon as I know which way we're leaning (motivation, etc.) I hope to post something more useful.

Wow. Not much going on...
Anyways, I plan getting there before 4pm, is everyone else able to make it?

Also have plans for what you want to do during downtime. Think about what runs you'd like to plan for yourselves, and maybe use downtime to research. Have plans for the future (Anyone who wants to become a normal citizen propably can, but such characters won't be able to continue with violent the violent and adventurous lives of the SINless. Remember, "day job" is a flaw/negative quality).

See you all tomorrow... sorry you can't make it Dr.Drow.

Time Passage: New date 2073, a few years after the second crash. Please post how you pass the time. Existing goals for characters (please add to the list or correct me if I'm wrong) are attracting tenants who can afford to pay for higher class accomodations and are willing to live on the edge of glow city, gain more relevant contacts, improve your own living conditions, improve your own skills/abilities, and gain positive reputation among potential employers. Time passage Karma: 150 for Horizon, Diamond, Hannible and Swoop; 300 for each of Dr. Dro's characters (what are their names?, do you need help spending their existing karma?) and 300 for both Mystery and Maven.

(GM Hint: I strongly recommend that everyone have both combat and non-combat ability useful in mana warps/voids.) The world is changing, magic is becoming stronger, and with it, magical phenomena and anti-magic phenomena are both becoming more common. The matrix 2.0 is up, and comm links are now common. How do you deal with the new level of big-brother? You have two or three (semi) legit SINs that you can have itendities/commlinks attached too, but now you have to be wary of authorities noticing you when you don't have commlinks active or checking you identity without telling you. Its definately harder to be SINless in 2073. You can, of course, try to get legit identities after the crash, but that makes a paper trail that could prove difficult if you get caught involved in criminal activity in the future (or just get sloppy and leave behind too much evidence).

There are lots of options, everyone needs to discuss the future of the group.

Current situation: Before Time passage: You have two lobos and two agullars. The chop shop isn't equipped to deal with military threats, they don't want that attention, but they might be interested after you get them debugged. You should be able to figure that out on your own without contacting them. The rebels can debug and refuel them for you if you sell them at least one of the lobos.

Each of the Aguilars have two HMGs with 1000 rounds of APDS, and 10 guided AGMs. In addition to exceptional, military grade electroonics paclages.

Each of the Lobos has a railgun, victory rotory assault cannon, HMG and two 4 slot missile launchers, plus leectronics packages. Not as good as a banshee, but better than anythign you're likely to find in non-military hands.

You guys now have the armaments of a small military unit. Soemthing to make it more portable is all you really need (cargo plane or big ship).

diamond takes the baron and the rebels as contacts horizon takes the baron rebels and whomever is our shell corp contact if not busy diamond and horizon will participate if needed in anyones endeavors during the 12 year"break"

horizon modifies everyones armors(few each)to be protective of electricity/fire/viral or theyre preference, horizon will also work on any guns the rebels/barons men want modified horizon adds lasersights/silencers and gas vents to the teams weapons, diamond gets those nifty arm gun/slides horizon wants to get some armtech mgl12s year2-12 both will pull missions that net big cash with least heat on them.horizon will modify the rebels and barons gangs weapons as well (im assuming this will up the contact over 12 years but am doing it anyways)

ideas for this upcoming game-
1.steal a lot of gas and something to transport it we got vehicles that burn a lot!
also i was thinking maybe just steal and keep a oil rig or rifinery.
2.rob an auction house or museum for prized antiquities.
3.rob an expensive car dealership,airport,or the like(again ^_^)
4.rob a hotel (luxury) one with rich clientel
5.rob a betaclinic(we can find one i got some ideas)
6.rob a hospital or pharmacetical corp for medical supplies/drugs.
7.kidnap a crimelord and hand him over to a rival crime family for some credit/reward.
8.rob a jewelry exchange
9.rob a casino(preferably run by organized crime)

mostly all robbery ideas but i feel all these would be worth it (something we would consider)

Upon arrival in Seattle, Swoop has Raya conceal the 4 vehicles while Han debugs them. Meanwhile, Swoop bugs Han with questions like, "What are you going to do with yours?", and "When are we going back for more?".

"Back for more? What are you talking about?", asks Han.

"C'mon! Don't tell me you didn't have fun", Swoop replies. "What a rush that was!"

Han tells Swoop, "How about we wait until things calm down? Like maybe next year. That will give you plenty of time to come up with a plan".

Swoop says,"I already have a plan. We sneak in and grab a Blood Mage, just like the first time".

"Sounds good", says Han. "All we have to do now is wait. What are you going to do in the meanwhile?"

"Practice my magic. What else!"

"Please, go do that, so I can concentrate on this. We can talk again later - after I finish".

"What else indeed?", thinks Han. "'What am I going to do with mine?', he wants to know. If I don't come up with some new ideas, we will end up going back for more."

After the vehicles are debugged and hidden in the underground lot, Han reflects on the past and thinks about the future. After a lot of soul-searching, he comes up with the following ideas to present to the group:
  • We were designed to be bio-engineered "super soldiers". We can be soldiers, or we can be something else.
  • If we are to be soldiers, we need to keep training. Strategy, tactics, and teamwork.
  • If we are to be soldiers; who, what, where, when, why, and how are we going to fight? Are we going to fight Aztlan forever, help the bug hunters, become mercenaries, what? Typically, mercenaries don't care about anything except their contract. I do.
  • Swoop asked me what I plan to do with 'my' vehicle. All I can say is: a Lobo is not an appropriate vehicle for the Seattle area. As for using it somewhere else, it has limited range.
  • Swoop also wanted to know when we are going back for more. The last thing we need is another Lobo; yet the idea of equipping our team with Azzie gear has a certain appeal. I'd love to get my hands on some Azzie drones: Crawlers, Hedgehogs, Liebres. How 'bout a few combat Tiburons? The Azzies have military stores and armor piercing ammo. Armor piercing ammo is always in demand.
  • I, Han, plan on joining up with the rebels. Six months, a year, two, or longer - I don't know. I figure I can be a soldier, help the rebels, get revenge against Aztlan, practice small-unit guerrilla tactics, and make some merc contacts - I know that the rebels employ some mercenaries. I just need to figure out how to maintain my Seattle contacts while I am gone.

whats the chop shops offer on the lobos/copters?
crimson ronin
also in the 12 year break horizon will make as much APDS as possible and diamond will make lots of BOMBS ^^ sren can decide the amounts
Sren
The rebels aren't happy that you guys didn't sell them one of the vehicles, and the smugglers aren't happy either. The chopshop can offer a half a million for a helecopter, fully loaded. Everyong with the smugglers as contacts loses a point in loyalty, but after a year they'll offer a half-million for one of the lobos. (Lobos aren't the best of the vectored thrust vehicles, their key feature is the railgun). The ammount offered for the vehicles isn't based just on what the goods are worth, but is also influenced by what the buyers are capable of paying.

Buying drones for the guns. You need to spend cash on the drones, and then program them. Do you really want to leave heavy weapons sitting around the barrens unattended? The shel corp isn't interested in expanding land purchases, while there isn't a true profit motive, maintining the shell requires that there be reasonable appearance of profit motive, and starting a charity / army funding project in the barrens isn't going to look like a business venture.

Making ammo if you have the skill to make APDS should be profitable. The baron can't afford more than a few clips worth a year at normal prices, but if you're going to give him a discount, he can buy more... The smugglers will be able to buy 1,000,000 worth each year (I'll have to look up how much profit that works out too).

You have everythign you need to be mercenaries, including being motivated by money, it seems. Finding mercenary contracts isn't easy though..

Good night,
S'Ren

I apologize for not finishing my earlier post. I got sidetracked, and didn't figure out how I was going to spend the karma. So, after sitting on a half finished post for over a week, I just posted what I had.

As I said, I still haven't spent all the karma, or figured out all that Han and especially Swoop will be doing. Tentatively, I figure Han will spend half his karma on Magic related items (magic, initiation, assensing, astral combat, etc.); and the other half on stealth, influence, piloting, mechanics, electronics, etc. However, I did say that Han plans to join the rebels. The plan was that when he delivered one of the Lobos, he would volunteer to be it's pilot. The missing pieces in the plan were who else might go with him, how long Han was going to stay, and how Han would maintain his contacts and business. Since none of the other PCs and NPCs responded to Han's plan, I guess that means Han is going alone.

As for the other vehicles, Han can only speak for the one Lobo that he stole. Han knows Diamond and Horizon don't want to sell at the prices the rebels can afford to pay, and the other PCs and NPCs are not all that enthusiastic either (Swoop didn't actually steal a vehicle, and doesn't have one to sell. He rode with Han).

Han's other thought was that while he was with the rebels he would observe how they made money, and see if he could help them make more. But, like I said, I got sidetracked.

Having never finished Han's plan, I haven't even started on Swoop other than thinking he would use part of his karma to perform a ritual of change to give Raya more skills and powers (like Sorcery), and use some of his karma to learn new spells to give those spells to Raya in a ritual of change. I haven't made the list of spells yet.

Swoop isn't all that thrilled about joining the rebels. He would probably go along if the majority of the group went. That doesn't seem likely. He gave some thought to creating another ally - one that he would dedicate to helping Han - and sending it with Han to Aztlan. I never finished that idea, either.

Both Han and Swoop think annual or biennial raids would satisfy their needs for adventure. Swoop wants to kidnap his old instructors, and sell them to Draco. Han wants drones, electronics, weapons, vehicles - a ship: frigate, corvette, or submarine, a... Calm down, Han. Get real!

Han thinks the group could either raid an Aztlan Naval Base, or sneak a ship out of the UCAS mothball fleet. Swoop thinks that's another solo mission for Han. As you can guess, I never finished that idea.

Aside from the raids on the base, this doesn't begin to cover twelve years. It's already Thursday; I guess it's now or never time. I'll try to post the rest by tomorrow morning.

neither diamond nor horizon took the smugglers as contacts so if they want apds ammo it will be book price the rebels or baron can get a 20% discount if the rebels spend karma they can have me as a contact ^^ j/k if you decide (im karma less) that the smugglers take diamond and horizon as contacts they also get 20% discount you mentioned nothing about the 12 years i offered training(not that it ought to take 12 years) nor if anyone was in the market for buying explosives from diamond.... also was left out about horizon tweaking the rebels/barons weapons (this wouldve cost nothing to either)i did it as a measure of friendship
was the setting up of weapons around the buildings okay??
and also we had a rocket facility in 12 years did anyone need rockets/missles?
was getting 2 cars armored (new wheels)okay? one with a popup turret lmg?
and can we find armtechs? no email from rob yet on the barrettxm500 &ntw-20
i made a post and answers are controversial at best

Crimson: If you know where you can find a bunch of low-risk + High Pay shadowruns, you don't need a GM, or any contacts or fellow runners, as diamond and horizon clearly know more than any runner that currently lives in the SR universe. Such runs don't grow on trees, especially in the smog-choke streets of Seattle (or Aztlan). Although risk IS relative; maybe Diamond doesn't have to worry much about any job that doesn't involve anti-vehicle weapons.

As for vehicles, how much cash do you have to spend for regular vehicles? Do you want legal vehicles or ones that aren't registered (or on gridlink?)? Do you guys have the skills and tools for arming and armoring vehicles? The LMGs require mini or small turrets. Small for pop-up, otherwise mini. (HMGs can be mounted for the same cost instead if you already have the guns.) PARTs for small turrets cost 7,500 Nuyen (pop-up and regular) and are too big to mount on small vehicles (large van is the smallest). Mini-turrets have a parts cost of 5,000 for a manned turret, 6,000 for a remote turret. Mini-pop-up turrets cannot hold an LMG, but can hold an assault rifle or grenade launcher. For anti-aircraft capability, add 50%.

You need to buy drones, you can't just say you find some and place them around the barrens. And people will bother them unless you successfully hid all of them. And if anyone does notice them, they will cause considerable trouble. (The star will respond to military level threats in the barrens, and a bunch of armed drones counts as a military threat.)

DBA: I didn't see anything you needed to apologize for...? Does Han fly down and meet the rebels right after stealing the Lobo, or after he plays with it a little? Makes a difference as to how they feel about you (I thought I made this clear when we last played, that both the smugglers and the rebels expected you to make sure that the rebels got one of the vehicles). As for Swoop, the rebels (IIRC) are led by awakened forces, and the south american jungles contain a ton of weird/unknown magical phenomena, so there are significant opportunities for magical growth with/around the rebels.

The NPCs (and the GM) considered each of the stolen vehicles to belong to the team, so the ones they took didn't belong to them, so there's no asking them what they did with "their vehicles" (did they take one or two? the group totaled four, but I only remember Han as one of the pilots).

EVERYONE
If you have adventures you want to plan, please let me know (by posting here) on Friday night or before noon on Saturday, and I'll plan around them. If you guys seriously want to try and steal a military boat, then you need to tell me who you plan to steal it from, and describe what you'd like to do for research. There is conflict all over the world, if you plan on becoming mercenaries, where would you like to work? Languages might be important in that decision.

For helping the rebels, they are mostly involved in border-scirmish operations. Any military assets that aren't close to assistance. If all of the conjurers learn invoking and are willing to bind and invoke spirits for speed, they'll get braver and attack more guarded targets. Over reliance on spirits, however, WILL attract countermeasures, thats the nature of warfare. You do notice a heavier spirit presence and a weaker mage presence when/if you go back to AZzyville. Maria offers 70% of book price for any Guardian, fire, Plant, Water or Beast summoning and binding foci you have remaining. She needs more off those, and will pay half that up front for any you are willing to custom make for her. She will tell you that she intends to sell them to the AZ government, so they can't be suspicious in any way.

If you guys decided to join up with the rebels right when you finished with the base, then they don't get annoyed with you. (Please let me know soon).

i had figured it wasnt too much of an issue to steal a vehicle in 12 years and have the chop shop put some armor on it and 1 pop up lmg or the like on 1 of the vehicles gas/electric powered +gridlink if i chose(i can pay/trade for the work)
by low risk missions i meant (with the rebels or barons gang)not just diamond and horizon alone
as for arming the buildings the rifles would be in places civilians didnt have access too therefore shouldnt be any trouble
if were going to steal a ship id suggest it be big, submarine or something significant
if we have time id also like to do some of my ideas as i dont think they would involve lots of planning but certainly teamwork

we ought to be there around 3ish

I'm sorry, but the drive out there is just a bit too long for me to commit to. Hope you guys have fun

I will be there.

Han sells the foci to Maria for 1,582,000 nuyen.gif. He tells her they are from the same shipment as the previous deal. He tells the mages about Maria's offer. Swoop isn't interested in making stuff for the Azzies. Swoop suggests selling Maria any foci taken from the kidnapped blood mages. Han figures that those would qualify under the "suspicious in every way" category.

As for flying down, it wasn't that clear to me. If it is that clear to Han, then he would act accordingly. He probably contacted the smugglers immediately, and explained the delays. Han takes the time to cleanse all four vehicles, and then delivered a Lobo to the smugglers for 200k nuyen.gif. Don't know how the timing syncs with the smugglers schedule. Are the smugglers in town when Han and the vehicle are ready? Han also needs time to make arrangements with Ed Murphy. In any case, we are talking about weeks or months, not years. If Han loses a point of loyalty - "dem is the breaks". Also, the smugglers' ship only has room for one vehicle at a time. It will take multiple trips to deliver multiple vehicles.

Han thinks a good compromise would be for him to sell the two Lobos to the smugglers/rebels, for Diamond to sell one chopper to the chop shop {{chopper to the chop shop? he he}}, and keep one chopper for the group. With 4 out of 8 members (Derric, Han, Serric, and Swoop) in favor, it would only take one more to achieve a majority.

After Han serves with the rebels awhile - assuming he is treated well - Swoop will join him. I assume that the rebels will treat Han like a soldier who raided an Azzie base and stole a Lobo, and not like a kid stealing hubcaps. I also assume Han learns of the awakened nature of the rebel leadership; and that he tells Swoop about that, and about the nature of the jungles where the rebels are based.

It isn't necessary to roleplay any of this, especially since my characters are the only ones going. I'm just explaining how they spend the twelve years, and how they earn and spend the 150 karma points. My idea is that this experience should result in Han improving related skills - both active skills and knowledge skills, and develop contacts that establish him in the mercenary and shadowrunning community by 2073. Swoop will also be improving skills, and establishing a reputation. His flaw probably hinders his ability to develop contacts, although etiquette could be one of the skills he improves - given enough time.

If Han gets to operate in the Zone Ghost area, then he may be able to capture a Tiburon picket ship or two.

After serving with the rebels, Han and Swoop will probably try to kidnap more mages. Swoop suggests to Han that, based on the way the first raid worked, kidnapping could be a two man job if they only try to kidnap one mage at a time. Again, no need to roleplay this, we already played it once. However; Han suggests that an alternative mission: finding and destroying any material links that the Azzies possess. Han meant material links taken from the PCs and NPCs in the group. Swoop thinks he means ALL material links, and thinks that is a great idea. Even better would be to recover all the links, destroy the material links taken from group members, and then try to identify which links belong to Blood mages. We can roleplay this if the others are interested.

Over the course of the 12 years, Han will try to acquire better gear, and establish additional safe houses in various locations (including Aztlan). He will install sensor and security systems to monitor and protect these houses.

If Han manages to maintain the smuggler's loyalty and improves it over the years, he will try to get them to help him establish other contacts via friend of a friend networking. Han isn't the only person selling to the smugglers. They must know people in Seattle. Han will also try to develop contacts through the shell corp guy. If nothing develops, then Han will try to go "legit" after the crash.

Han will use the crash to establish multiple IDs, if possible. Of course, in 12 years the group members will be between 27 and 30 years old, and being treated like kids will no longer be a problem.

Han would also like to establish contacts in various North American Nations. As the group's ancestry is genetically-engineered test-tube experiments, Han's ethnic appearance is dubious. I have always assumed that the PCs look like generic Central Americans with above average bodies (Han's body is 6, Swoop is a 4). Don't know exactly how the North American Nations feel about Central Americans; my understanding is that the rebels receive some support from the NANs. Ideally, Han would like to obtain passports to travel across the NAN (specifically the Salish-Shidhe Council and the Pueblo Corporate Council), and some trading arrangements. I believe Tir Tairngire also supports the rebels; a contact with them would be a bonus.

----------------------------

Swoop spends most of his karma on magic related items. He spends some on Raya, and the rest is spent on other items (possibly social skills).

At some point Swoop will initiate with the help of the magical group. He will also want to go on a metaplaner quest as part of an ordeal to reduce the cost of the initiation. This is something we can roleplay if the others are interested.

Questions for the GM: Swoop would like to research into the possibility of upgrading foci. Swoop has a Force 4 Power Focus that he would like to upgrade to Force 6. This would require you to create a house rule. Perhaps the goal of a metaplaner quest could be to learn the answer. Another use for a metaplaner quest could be to locate a free spirit that can open astral gateways.

Another playable mission would be to locate and steal great form guidance spirits: ie. locate spirits, banish them, summon them, and then bind them. This technique can also be used to acquire beast, guardian, plant, and task spirits. Doing this against Aztlan would make the runs even sweeter.

Swoop also wants to improve his lifestyle. The Sprawl Survival Guide contains detailed SR3 rules for IDs and Lifestyles. For example, it would cost 3,650 nuyen.gif per month to establish a high lifestyle in the apartment building, or 6,650 for a luxury lifestyle (ie. paying for comfort, entertainment, furnishings, and security, with free area and space). Swoop will do what it takes to achieve a high to luxury lifestyle.

-----------------------------

Summary:
  • Cleanse vehicles; sell one or more to rebels.
  • Join rebels as volunteers for a tour; possibly serve additional tours as mercs.
  • Make merc/shadowrun contacts.
  • Improve skills and abilities.
  • Maintain current contacts, develop additional contacts.
  • Initiate
  • Metaplaner quests
  • Develop free spirit contacts.
  • Capture guardian or other exotic spirits.
  • Improve and maintain personal lifestyles
  • Rigger adapt all vehicles
  • Buy, Build, Steal SOTA commlinks and software after the crash.
I know I left out a bunch. For instance, one of Han's idea of a legit business is selling and servicing customized household drones. No need to roleplay this but maybe oneday Han will use this front to infiltrate a shadowrun target.

If Swoop learns of a way to upgrade foci, he could turn it into a business. This might entail adventuring (running) to acquire Exotic Reagents required to upgrade foci, as well as Metaplaner Quests to obtain upgrade formulas. I'm sure that demand would exceed supply, and that other's would try to steal the secret methods, etc., etc. Han could serve as Swoop's front man, since Swoop is totally lacking in Negotiation skills.

-----------------------

To Crimson Ronin: I'm sure that whoever ends up with the vehicles we stole will want a continuing supply of ammo. As Sren mentioned, the rebels have an annual budget of 1,000,000 nuyen.gif. That probably includes a mix of bullets, explosives, rockets, etc. You'll have to wait for Sren to compute the profit in order to determine whether this is an attractive deal for you. Han is willing to be the middle man pro bono as Diamond and Horizon don't have smuggler contacts.

If you don't sell the chopper you stole to the rebels, the chop shop offered a half a million for a fully loaded helicopter. You could probably work a trade for 500k worth of armored vehicles. Alternatively, you can have them customize one or more of our current vehicles - like the Nightsky. It's smaller than a Banshee. Eh! you can't have everything. Of course, the final decision is up to Sren. If you want, Han will help your guys negotiate for a better price. This could be possible especially if they accept trade in lieu of cash. Your guy would have to lead the negotiation as Han has no chop shop contacts (Han can 'buy' you two additional dice with his skill).

As for robberies, Han and Swoop aren't all that interested in armed robbery for money. Han could be talked into robbing specific targets for specific items. For example, if Horizon came up with a covert plan to steal a special rifle; raw materials for his rocket factory, drones, etc.; then Han would be interested. It's got to be more than just "stick 'em up". Han will also be interested in obtaining software after the crash as mentioned above. Other items worth stealing would be high rating, and availability "F" items listed under Electronics, B&E Tools, Chemicals, etc. Runs against Aztlan or Aztechnology will attract both Han and Swoop. It would have to be something more than just a drive by. Otherwise, Swoop will only be interested in runs involving the whole group.

If Diamond and Horizon want to steal an Azzie sub, then we could work on a plan. Han thinks the first step would be to plant tracking devices on subs in port. This means locating and breaking into their base. Note: a Triton class sub lists for 435,000,000 nuyen.gif in Rigger3, and the Rigger3 maintenance costs would be 4.35 million per month (or 4,350 nuyen.gif per kilometer using the otempo rules). Once we acquire the sub, we would either have to sell the sub, find some very well paying ways to use it, or scuttle it after an exciting joyride. Maintenance on a frigate cost 1/4 as much, and maintenance on a corvette costs 1/2 of that - still high at 600 nuyen.gif per kilometer.

After running those numbers, a sober Han thinks skyjacking Azzie owned Luftschiffbau Zeppelins LZ-2051-C would be much more practical. Mages and spirits could attack 'em in the air, and if one of the mages gave his ally pilot aircraft.... Who knows, it might even have a valuable cargo on board.

If we get some Tiburons, we could use them to raid Azzie commerce. Swoop thinks the Zepplin idea is better, as we already did the pirate (anti-pirate?) thing.
