abno:
Didn't see you there last Sat. We could still use another player or two every other Saturday if you're still interested. Next game should be Feb 11.
craygo
What time will the game start? 4pm?
Sren
There's a DnD minis tournament at other realms this Sat that I'll be playing in. It is supposed to end at 6pm. So we'll start as soon as I get some dinner after the tournament.
crimson ronin
i didnt upgrade my characters yet no big been trying to decide what to raise/fix
Sren
I just checked the winter fantasy schedule... I thought it was next weekend, but it is the weekend after. I haven't decided if I'm going to go yet because the event I want to participate in most is currently sold out, so I'd be attending in hopes that someone who signed up decided not to get up early enough on a saturday morning to make the 8 a.m. start time (the event is pre-registered, but not prepaid, so I suspect a lot of people signed up just in case they decided to go).

Anyways, the relevance of this is, that I don't feel its fair to not tell you I might not be there during our next session. I might be able to make both events (Winter fantasy and our game), but again, its not fair to you to ask you to show up if I'm not sure I will.

I just wanted to let you know ahead of time so you have time to make your own plans if you decide not to show up. Just let me know if you do get alternate plans sometime before Saturday morning so I know if I need to try and make it back in time for our game.
De Badd Ass
I will not have alternate plans. I hope you do show up for our game.
Sren
The event I'm hoping to participte in should end by two or three o'clock, so I might be a little late, but I'll be there.

See you all tomorrow.

Sren
We are playing today, and I will be there early, however, I'm going to be occupied with a DnD tournament until 5 or 6 o'clock. Sorry I didn't post about this last night. I plan on startign as soon as I get dinner after the tournament.
damaleon
You wouldn't happen to be looking for another player, would you? I used to play a while back (second edition) and just got fourth. Looking to get into a game and always preferred face to face instead of on-line games.
Sren
New players welcome damaleon.

Next meeting is the 25th, I believe, and another player or two would be welcome.

For a character, make a 300 pt. character with the following rule changes/additions: No flaws that would make military life noticeably difficult or would get you weeded out of a military program early (i.e. no drug addictions), no skill above 4, no more than a couple BP spent on gear (your gear is issued), add the following skills (for free): dodge 4, perception 4, escape artist 2, Athletics group 4 and Survival group 2. ADDITIONALLY, each character is a super soldier, to simulate this, each character may purchase 400,000 nuyen worth of bioware (except for bone density and enhanced articulation) for which he suffers no essence loss (track the normal essense loss for future use). (Also, if you have 5,000 or more nuyen left after buying all the bioware you want, add a build point somewhere else, or if your bioware list comes up 5,000 Nuyen over the limit, spend a build piont here for another 5,000 nuyen). No cyberware to start the game.

NEXT, advance your character: To catch up, you get 90 karma to spend on attributes, combat/magical skills, the assensing skill (if youhave astral perception) and up to one grade of initiation (masking is the only metamagic available to characters at this point, that limit will change as the campaign continues).

*** Make up two characters***

THE STORY SO FAR
The characters are all super soldiers, and teenagers at that. Your two characters have recently been reassigned to a new team (the team composed of the other characters). You were raised by and work for the Aztlan government (and have been taught to only believe good things about the government, but your opinions MAY HAVE changed a little bit recently). You've had some very brutal, but effective training, and in your few missions, been ordered to kill a few people (decide why you've been reassigned, maybe the rest of your team just got killed on a mission).

Does anyone else have anything they'd like to add to the story?

So far, the team is highly magical (2 mages, 2 adepts, 2 gunmen for the PCs, and 2 NPC mages). The In-game date is late 2055 (your bioware is the newest technology, and it wasn't implanted in you, it was part of genetic modification).

If you're still interested after all that, I hope you join us next time.

Later

damaleon
Sounds good to me. I read the rest of the posts so I am assuming the game is at Other Realms. Can you e-mail me the time, or post it here? My e-mail is damaleon at hotmail.com

One quick question though, while I know the bioware from the 400k will not actually affect essence, is it still available in standard through deltaware (with the incurred cost) or just standard?
Sren
Sure, you can buy high-grade bioware. As for time, I try to be there by 4pm, but I haven't made it the last two games. I want to always start by 6pm, try to get there early if you have some downtime issues (or character creation issues) to deal with.
Sren
Everyone ready for this Saturday? There's a mini's tournament this weekend, so I'll be there, but occupied until five or six o'clock, so we'll start after the tournament is over.

As for the story, now you've run away, so what's next. Now you guys control the action... Which way do you run? How do you get food and shelter? More importantly, how's your ammo supply?

crimson ronin
im thinking we all agreed to head for the woods since we all have survival skills

im not sure how we are on ammo but i think well be ok as long as everyone uses every shot carefully smile.gif
ill be on call but ill be coming (unless)i get a call as im on the way(its happened and it sux)

ill have the food/shelter worked out by gametime spin.gif
damaleon
I'll be there too, and i have the list of salvaged gear. ammo wise, we had enough for each character to have a slivergun and extra 1 clip (11 guns with varied ammo left, 10 spare clips) ammo from our original weapons (probably 3 reloads per gun each) 3 heavy machineguns with gyro harnesses and 5 APDS round 100 rnd. belts between them, and 5 AK97's from the attackers.

So those that get a chance to check before gametime, here is the full salvage from the firefight I have written down:

5 Walther sniper rifles (8/10m) (2 are damaged from falls) and 150 rounds for reloads
11 Ares Sliverguns (varies/30c) with 10 extra clips
1 Ares Preadator IV (15/15) with 2 spare clips (may have to ditch, was instructor's) and it has been wrapped in the stripped armor incase it has a smartgun system
3 Heavy Machine Guns with Gas Vent 3 and Gyro Harnesses (varies/100belt)
5 APDS 100 round belts for HMGs
10 human sized Armored Jackets
3 troll sized Armored Jackets
10 Machetes
14 Commlinks (need to work on them before we can use them)
5 AK97s (varies/38c) didn't specify how many spare clips, would assume 1-2 per gun
13 HE grenades
3 Riot Shields (in addition to the 2 we started with)
The Elf chick's body, with a Necklace
My guy's clean out the instructor's body for a staff, jewelry, credsticks, and teweled dagger

we also have our old armor that is now unpowered, 7 or 8 bikes we may have to ditch or modify to remove tracking systems, and a bunch of useless weapons to dump since we can't quickly disable there wireless smartgun systems (could blind the camera's but would still be traceable)

For those there before Sren's ready, we can divy up the stash
crimson ronin
so we all get a slivergun /spare clip machette non working radio and armor
diamond doesnt need anything else but horizon wants a walther AND an hmg since he will put them to the best use

3 possible courses of action i can think of

1 hold up in the woods
2 make it to populated areas
3 follow the people who came for the orb
damaleon
I have a one that can use a HMG and my other is able to put a Walther to use. That still leave all 5 AK97s for others, which we probably have the most ammunition for (30 to 40 clips)

I would think option 3 might be our best bet. With a decent bit of luck and some sniping we could end up with new transportation and mabye a path out of the area.
De Badd Ass
I see two possible courses of action:

1) plan revenge against Aztechnology;

2) flee Aztlan.

If you want option 1, then you might want allies like the dragon that stole the orb. Course there is a good chance that she will be pissed because we stole the orb from her first. Plus, we killed a few of her henchmen. We can tell her that our instructors made us do it, and she will understand. Right? Then again, maybe the orb wasn't the dragon's in the first place, and stealing it from the real owners just made it easier for her to get it. Then we just have to worry about the buddies of the dead.

I vote for option two. I hear Seattle is nice this time of year, and there are no jungles where electronics don't work. I understand that it is a long walk. hmm....
damaleon
C.R. and I were discussing what to do next, especially after we get out of Aztlan.

Running the border and soon would probably be best, but we should ditch the guy the truck before we give away where we will try and cross. Using Influence to keep him from contacting the authorities (make him think they would be very angry that he didn't contact them by now) and to use him as a false lead, maybe even make him thing running the border is in his best interest, using him as a diversion. If we try to steal any military vehicles and cross, we will probably be attacked by the military on the other side, so we should avoid that. The Texas border away from cities may be easiest, but we may not have enough resources to survive for long after we cross. Crossing near San Diego and finding foreign runners and fixers might be our best bet. Finding foreign fixers would probably be our best bet for getting contacts that won't turn us in (at least not as fast).

Once we cross, or possibly before, we might make some cash by collecting on paranimal bounties, or any other bounties we find out about. They could very easily, and likely in some cases, pay in certified credsticks. With some cred and the gear we have collected, we can get the SINs we have to have to survive. With the military build up around San Diego, it might actually easier for a small group on bikes to get through, as they might be focusing on CalFree forces to only use large vehicles to protect their troops. Of course, if we end up fighting, it might be 100 to 1 odds, and we don't have the ammo for that.

Another possibility is helping once we get across the border is helping a gang make a name for itself to gain some street cred and make some contacts, but will expose us more than bounty hunting might.

To get back to crossing the border for a bit: I don't think crossing it will be all that difficult. If we attack a small outpost, we can probably expect under twenty targets total, including spirits on hand, drones, and soldiers. If they sound an alarm though, we would only have minutes to finish it and get away, and it may alert the folks on the other side. Our best bet may be to take the time to summon (and bind if we can get the materials to do it) a couple air and earth spirits to aid our crossing, using concealment powers (or sustaining an improved invisibility spell) to hide us from cameras and other sensors and cause a localized seismic disturbance to disrupt any pressure sensors.

Anyway, its late, so I am going to crash.

Sren
Karma for last game: 1 (survival) + 1 (goal met, getting a car). Plus the usual 40 for cenematic growth. (the 40 points can only be spent on skills/attributes you used last session).

If you guys want to use this board or email to do some IC planning, you can get another point or two for coming up with a good plan or two in character to meet your goals (you only get the award for group plans you actually end up using).

Remember, you have more than a week still, so don't be afraid to throw out ideas before trying to agree on what plan(s) to work on.

damaleon
Sren, before we get to the next game, got a couple of questions:

1. Can I interrogate the ganger and use it to gain one point in "aztlan street gangs" (spending some karma for the knowledge skill) and maybe "illegal drugs"?

2. I want to take the personal computer of the guy we who's van we took. with my skills I should be able to alter any tracable parts once I have access to a proper electronics kit. It should have some common use programs at low levels and it might be useful in basic matrix searches.

3. Is there any way to access the matrix from the van, say at a rest stop or store?
De Badd Ass
IN CHARACTER:

Sin says okay. Han is reluctant.

Sin says we need to ditch this van in case we were recognized at the
gas station. That chase could will be on the news soon; not to mention our escape -
with our pictures.

Han suggests that it might be easier for some of us to go back and rescue
whatshisname if some of us continue north in the van leaving a trail the
authorities can follow.

Sin is willing to go back while Han drives north in the van.

Han is worried that the authorities might turn off the hostages credit.

OOC: I don't have John's email, Sren's either.

Han says, "There is another 'border', the gulf coast. Jacking a boat and heading for the carib-beans might work. It can't be much harder than jacking a van.

Sin says, "I see one problem with the plan to attack a border outpost - maybe not a problem for you, but definitely a problem for some of us. Astral reinforcements can arrive in seconds rather than minutes. Mages can't attack groundlings from astral; spirits can! We'll have to figure out a way to prevent any alarms."

Han says, "I guess we could use a little 'mob control' for that. I hate to say it, but we need whatshisass."

1: Do you guys still have the ganger? If so, then yes.

2: He ahs an old PC, A little worse than a 2055 pocket secretary, and twice the size. It has an internal cell modem, so it has matrix access as long as he pays the phone bill.

3: Some rest stops will have prepay wireless (slot a cred stick, tell the vending machine how much time you want to buy, and it gives you a password that will stop working in that ammount of time).

I actually live in Germantown, MD. We have a small group of 4 (including me) that we've been trying to run SR4 with. Are you guys still looking for more players? And if so, how many? smile.gif
Sren
Bad ass, you can use the cenematic XP to bond the focus.

dc pirhana: I'd love to get the group a little bigger... hnn... I don't know off the top of my head hwo to double the group size in the story for the next game though. We meet every other week, assuming my current players don't revolt, I should be able to work a story around adding more players. By the way, how far is Germantown from other realms?

For this Saturday, I should be able to get there early, as I'm not currently aware of any other events I plan on attending, so hopefully life won't get in the way, and I'll actually make it there by 1600.

See you all then.

craygo
Germantown is about 5 miles north of Gatihersburg. See you on saturday.

I'm checking with the other three to make sure they can commit. I got excited and kinda jumped the gun a little on them. It's this Saturday (4/22). And it's every two weeks. 4pm each time right?

I didn't see in the thread exactly where the meet is. Is there someone I can give my cell # to, or call to find out where? Transportation is not an issue other than directions smile.gif

Do you want us creating characters beforehand?

Sren
dcpirhana,
Yes, we meet every other Saturday. I try to get there at 4 pm, but I also play DnD minis tournaments at two locations (twice a month), so sometimes I'm late. Even when everyone is there by four (has that happened yet?), we usually don't get started until 5:30 or 6. (Time before that is spend on character advancement, legwork, and between game actions.)

I don't know how I'm going to get four more people worked in right now, as the group is choosing its adventures as opposed to me pushing them in a certain direction, so while I'd be happy to meet new potential players this week, I'm not sure there will be an in-character way to get more characters in. (although one of their potential plans might make this easy...)

As for characters, yes making characters before hand will be easier (check earlier in this thread for how I want characters made). Currently, each of the four players is playing two characters, and there are two NPCs with the party. With four more players, 16 PCs will be a little hard to handle in a fight, so I need to think about how to handle the extra characters (I'm fine with everyone having two PCs, but we need to start hacing less of them active in any given encounter).

I look forward to meeting you,

Barring heavy traffic (or me losing track of time), I plan on getting there between 4 and 4:30 pm. I still need a little time to plan your final encounters, so I still plan to actually start around 6pm, maybe a little earlier if everyoen who is going to be there shows up earlier. I'll check dumpshock agina before I leave the house (around 3pm).

Start thinking about your escape, not just the combat and getting away from the immediate danger, but about what you're going to do after killing/disabling any persuers.

OOC: Another great session, everyone.

IC: Sin notices Han working his new commlink day after day. Sin asks, in his uncouth way, "Geez, what's taking you so long? How hard can it be?"

Han wants to utter a snappy comeback, like, "no harder than obtaining a lightning bolt spell". The pirate incident is still fresh in his mind, and he is not THAT anxious to piss off Sin. The lightning bolt spell gives him an idea, so he tries the diplomatic tact. "It's like that book, Catch-22. I need to access the shadow nodes in order to obtain hacking wares, and I need hacking wares in order to access shadow nodes. Once I get into the shadow nodes, anything is possible. I might could even locate a lightning bolt spell formulae."

"Can't you write your own hacks? Faster than what your doing now?", Sin asks.

"Gotcha now", Han thinks. "Coding software is really hard - complicated and tedious", Han whines. "Kinda like writing your own spell formulae I guess; it takes a logcal mind. I couldn't do it alone".

Sin replies, "It can't be that hard. Ask your buddy Vega to help you. He's not doing anything right now. I mean, it's not like he has found any contacts. I could do it, and I don't know the first thing about computers".

"Hook, line, and sinker!", Han smirks inwardly. He replies,"There is a minimum you need to know in order to write software. Syntax, for instance. Vega could teach you, if you really want to help."

"That jerk couldn't teach me anything", Sin snaps.

Han groans. "Maybe not. You're so smart you could probably teach yourself. Tutorials and reference works are easy to find on the matrix. I can tell you one thing, though".

"What's that?"

"You're not on base anymore. You're on your own. You better find somebody to teach you some people skills if you want to survive out here".

"Eh", Sin ponders that last remark. "I'll think about it".

"Yeah, and think about learning some English, too."

OOC: I figure we need Exploit and Stealth in order to hack our way onto a Shadow site. If the group wants to spend the in-game time to code our own hacking programs, then I am willing to spend the karma to give Sin one level of Software.

Han can roll 6 dice to assist Vega (13 if he spends edge in advance). If Sin learns software 1, then he can roll 9 dice to assist (12 with edge). I don't know if any of the other characters or NPCs have the software skill, or are willing to spend the karma to learn it. I believe some of the mages have high Logic attributes. Others have Edge.

Example: The threshold to code Exploit is Rating * 2. If Sin rolled 12 dice, he could buy 3 successes, which would give Han 16 dice, which could buy 4 successes for a rating 2 exploit program in one month, or a rating 4 exploit in two months (except Sin only has one point of edge left). Same with Stealth. We could probably do better by rolling dice instead of buying successes, since we get to re-roll sixes. I don't know how many dice Vega rolls.

Maybe Sren will allow Han to use his leadership skill to organize the project, i.e. develop a plan, improve working conditions, gather reference materials, etc.

We also need to buy trode nets for all the programmers.

This is my suggestion for bootstrapping our way into the shadowrunning business.

Comments, anyone? Damaleon? Sren?

OOC: Sren, you mentioned that there was a rigger aboard the pirate ship.

"Eh", Sin ponders that last remark. "I'll think about it".

"Yeah, and think about learning some English, too."

Sin thinks about it. "What do they want from me, anyway? I'm a team player. I do what needs to be done. I don't ask for more than my share. I don't complain -- much."

Sin wanders off to be alone. He walks aimlessly down the streets of Seattle, lost in his own thoughts. He passes a park, and decides to enter. Some school kids are playing touch football in a field, and Sin stops to watch. He doesn't know this game. A group of passing girls look at him, his clothes, and laugh. Everyone around him is speaking English. He has no idea what is going on. Sin runs away. As he is running, he realizes that he is faster than the football players. Unlike the kids he grew up with, these Seattle kids are "normal".

Sin runs through a wooded area, until he realizes he is all alone at last. He spots a large tree, and climbs almost to the top. He sits on the highest branch that can support his weight.

Sin conjures an air spirit. He gets along with spirits better than with people, and he wants a friend. Sin is stunned, and not by drain; this air spirit has materialized in the form of Raven. Sin knows spirits rarely materialize voluntarily, they usually manifest instead. The bird and the boy eye each other warily, neither one speaks for minutes.

When the hyperactive boy can't stand the tension any longer, he lets out a breath and shouts, "WHAT?" Sin didn't even realize he had been holding his breath.

"What yourself", Raven answers, "you summoned me."

"Oh yeah, I guess I did", says Sin. "No! I summoned a spirit. I didn't expect you".

"You summoned a friend, and I am the only one you got at the moment", Raven whispers.

"Et tu, Brute?", asks Sin before he breaks down and begins to sob. Coming from Raven, that last comment hurt more than all the others.

"Go ahead and cry, son; it's good for you", says the expressionless Raven. (Birds can't smirk.) "You need to first let go of your emotions in order to think straight".

Sin continues to weep, as Raven takes off into the sky. The bird returns a while later with someone's half eaten salami sandwich.

When Sin looks up at Raven, the bird asks, "Want some?" Sin shakes his head, and Raven replies, "More for me! (Birds can't express glee, either.) Yer dumber than I thought, chummer; turning down good Genoa".

Sin wipes his eyes, and whines, "I am not dumb!"

"No, you're not. That attack on the pirates was nicely done. You shouldn't have disabled the ship, though. You'll know better next time."

"Next time? I don't think so."

"You got a better idea, or are you just going to cry until you die of hunger?", Raven mumbles through a mouth full of food."

"Not yet, but I'll come up with something". Sin thinks a bit. "I need a plan".

"Listen, kid! Planning is for suckers. We're ravens!"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means we operate way above the heads of others. We keep our eyes open, and when we spot an opportunity - WE SWOOP!"

Sin stretched out his arms and flapped them like wings. "Swoop, huh?" Sin laughed.

"Yeah, and let me tell you, chummer. Seattle IS the land of opportunity".

"Oh? What makes Seattle the land of opportunity?"

"I was being poetic. Truth is, opportunity is everywhere. People represent opportunity. Anywhere there are people, there are opportunities. Seattle is nothing, if not full of people -- and opportunities. You just have to spot the opportunities and take 'em."

'You make it sound so easy!"

"Some opportunities are hard, and some are easy. If you have a choice, which do you choose? Clue: you always have a choice when you find your own opportunities."

"Uh...."

"You walked around town today. I watched you. Did you have your eyes open? What did you see?"

"People working, playing, talking. Speaking English, and other languages that I don't understand. Uh...."

"You are clueless!"

"So what did I miss?"

"You saw people interacting, and missed the nature of the interactions. Fact is, everybody wants something, and people interactions are about people trying to get something."

"That sounds a lot crude."

"For a burro like you, only crudeness gets through."

"Hee! Haw! I must be a burro, cause I still don't get it."

"You want a lightning bolt spell, and you didn't get that, either. Look, when two people interact, it is because both people want something. That's People 101. The way to get what you want, is to help the other guy get what she wants. She has to believe you can satisfy her like nobody else can."

"It sounds like you are talking about sex."

"Sex IS the most basic people interaction; the most complex, too. Intercourse is just another word for interaction.

"What do you know about sex anyhow, Virgen?"

Sin blushed, "Kick me where it hurts, why don't you!"

"That's what Ravens do. We...."

"Swoop! Yeah, I know." Sin lets out with a sigh.

"Don't interrupt, chum! It's not polite."

"No people skills, remember?", Sin responds.

"Haw! Haw! Haw! Smart ass. You know what your problem is? You have a big advantage over other people."

"What's that?", Sin asks.

"You got Mojo! You got Mojo, and you use it like a hammer. You use it like a hammer, and see every situation as a nail.

"Most people don't have that; they have to develop people skills instead. Your problem is: most situations aren't nails. Mojo isn't always the answer, and in those situations you don't know what to do. Before you learn to swoop, you got to learn to fly. Before you learn to fly, you gotta learn how to walk."

"So how do I learn to walk?"

"One step at a time, just like everybody else."

"I can't do that. Other kids have parents, REAL parents. They play with other kids, and make friends. They join teams. They go to school. They.... OH!"

The Raven disappears.

*************************

Sin is whistling when he returns to the hideout. Han is surprised.

"What did you do, Sin? Get laid?"

"Better! I got a plan. My worries are over.

"Oh yeah. Don't call me Sin anymore. I've changed my name. Sin is on Aztlan's Most Wanted. So are we all. You better change your name, too."

"Not bad! Not much, but not bad. So what do we call you now?"

"SWOOP!"
