Morgana nods and looks around the room.
Okay.. so there's books and a study but no ink. Now, I'm thinking that an intelligent man might not want his books and ink too near each other for fear of a spill but, he wouldn't want to have to leave his tower just to write something down either. I think there may be more to this room or perhaps an exit we're not seeing. Morgana scans the room again, noting the bookshelf against the wall. Going over to it, she peers behind it.

Well... I'm out of ideas.. She casts Astral Sense.
Spellcasting Test: Astral Sense[ Spoiler ]
Astral Sense: This spell allows the Wizard to sense presences in Astral space. These presences could include people, creatures, magic doors, magic items and so on. The Spellcasting Test is made against the Spell Defense of astral space, which is normally 6 but can be higher in certain magically active areas. If the Spellcasting Test is successful, the spell allows the wizard to detect other presences in astral space. The wizard then makes an effect test. If the result is equal to or higher then the Spell Defense of any target within range, the wizard detects the target. The wizard can make the Effect Test every round. If more then one target is in range, the wizard will detect the one with the lowest Spell Defense first. Once detected, a target stays detected as long as he remains within the range of the spell.
Making an Effect Test does not prevent the wizard from taking another action that round. A magician may attempt to cast spells on a target he has astrally assensed, even if he cannot otherwise see the target.

Show me the truth behind this figurine. She shuffles the deck in her hands, repeating the question over and over in her head. Then she lays the cards out in a cross shape. For a moment, she regards the backs of the cards, still repeating the question in her mind. Then she flips the first one over.

The text is indeed helpful. It is essentially the enchanting formula the wizard used to create an item he calls "The Head of the Pack". It is a small statuette in the shape of a hounds head, created to control canines. Specifically, it is geared to be especially effective in controlling Gate Hounds.

With increasing frustration, Morganna pushes and pulls and tucks and weaves the threads every which way. The thing is put together in a very quirky way.
