John Archer... why does that sound so familiar? Was he in a SR novel once?
MrSandman666
Jan 22 2004, 05:09 PM
Leowulf, it's nothing personal. I don't have a problem with your character and Ohanzee's grumpyness doesn't only or even mainly come from working with Ghostdragon. I'm just trying to stay in character and since Ohanzee is pretty stuborn and Ghostdragon didn't exactly make himself sympathetic to Ohanzee with his first introduction and some of his comments since then, you will have a hard time to make friends with him, if you should care enough to try.
Just letting you know, it's not that I'm trying to single you out or mob you or anything.

Yeah, same here. Jessie is just a different style runner, so she is trying to do things the way she feels is best for the team.
I'll throw out a Negotiations rolls for the exchange. I prefer to role play things out IC, the roll isn't to say "I convince you", its to make sure that Jessie comes off as helpful instead of it being a personal attack or something.

When talking with Jessie you get the distinct impression that she likes you and is trying to be helpful and friendly, not condescending or insensitive. As for the rest...

It's cool you guys. I know that Ghost Dragon is a little abnormal. As long as I know it's nothing personal, no worries. I figured you were all roleplaying.
Ghost Dragon, just so you know OOC, is a former Yakuza assassin who fled Japan after tiring of being their hitman/slave. He was forced into that job by a ranking member of the Yakuza through a bad situation that threatened his family. Since he is still in hiding, he tends to be secretive and aloof at times, which was the reason for his entrance back in the warehouse.
By my calculations, the job would pay us each 7500
. With Jessie's decker friend at 5000
, that takes our cuts each to 6875
. Ghost Dragon won't really care, but I think it kind of sucks to have him foot the whole bill for the summoning materials. I can have him summon up to any level of spirit, though going above force 6 would be dangerous for him. Every 125
that you each donate will equal another 1000 for him to buy another force point's worth of materials for summoning.

The thing is, nobody shares the cost of the Sammy's guns and ammo, or the Rigger's drones, etc. With a regular group, I could see a fund set up for the purpose of (re)supplying everyone, but with one-off runs it's pretty much what you bring to the job with you.
Admittedly this job is paying sweet f.a., and in reality most, if not all of us should have walked away from it right from the start. The Johnson's obnoxiousness is just icing on the cake.

Conuring (3) Test: 1, 5, 4, 3 = 3 successes. The elemental owes 3 services.
Drain Test, Charisma (3): 4, 2, 11, 4, 14 = 4 successes. Referring to the Conuring Drain table on p. 187, SR3, the drain level is M, so there should be no drain.

Some of you might have noticed how I've been posting less frequently and in a less detailed way lately. Unfortunately this nasty thing called real-life (girlfriend, extremely ill grandfather, stressed-out mum, problems at university, totally messed up schedule amongst other things) is giving me a pretty hard time lately, which is resulting in me not having the time and/or the inspiritation to post anything at least semi-coherent or useful lately.
I hope things will clear up soon but it looks like this could go on for a few more weeks.
Just so you're warned.
I'll still be around so if a particular post is required off me I'll be there to do it. It just won't be very elaborate.

Can I assume that the frags are offensive? And would they be anti-personnel, since they're frags? Also, are the frags, assuming they're offensive, and the defensive grenades IPE or regular? Are they aerodynamic or non-aerodynamic?
I need to know for my own personal satisfaction.
It will also make a difference if Ghost Dragon starts throwing them.
I also need to know so I can tell how much the grenades are going to cost.

There is now a +2 TN to all driving tests, and a +2 TN to all visibility tests. The vis tests are only offset by thermal, not low light. It is also now damn cold outside. So unless you are wearing more than a coat, all tn's like Athletics, and stealth become much harder (from +1 to +3).
The good news is it is easier to hear someone sneaking up on you, so -1 tn to all perception tests involving hearing

Alrighty... I'm doing an IC post right now.
Basically I'm checking to see what kind of transmissions are typically buzzing about the facility, and to get a general sense of radio contacts or the like if they're being used.
Dunno what rolls you'd want, so this is what I figure would be most applicable:
Electronic Warfare: 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11
Sensor Test (Roadmaster): 3, 4, 4, 4, 5
Perception Check: 3, 4, 5, 5, 9, 10

I'm gunna throw out a bunch of rolls, cause I'm not sure what you need, so here goes.
First up, five perceptions checks (cause I don't know if you want to use the same one for everything or different rolls for different areas). I'll do 6 dice, then 5 seperate dice for the sound filter bonus.
Roll 1: 09 09 05 04 02 02 + 09 08 05 02 01
Roll 2: 10 09 05 02 01 01 + 13 04 04 02 02
Roll 3: 08 05 04 03 03 02 + 05 03 02 02 01
Roll 4: 10 09 04 04 02 01 + 09 04 02 01 01
Roll 5: 05 04 03 02 01 01 + 11 05 04 02 01
Here is an electronics roll for trying to pick up radio signals. I've got a rating 6 scanner, with rating 6 decryption.
Roll: 10 09 07 05 05 02
A stealth check to make it look like I'm not scoping the place out, but just walking down the street.
Roll: 17 10 05 04 04 03 02
Security Systems (knowledge skill): 11 05 04 02 01
Security Devices (knowledge skill): 10 05 03 03 02
Paranormal Animals: 05 05 02
That should cover everything. If you need anything else, let me know.

@ Leowulf,
Let me understand this, your invisible. You are astrally perceiving, and you are looking through your binoculars? I don't think that will work. The binocs wouldn't allow you to see farther on the astral plane, only on the physical plane. Cool thought though.
Leowulf
Feb 3 2004, 12:40 PM
Shadow, are you sure? I read that astral perception is a psychic sense in SR3. My thinking on it was that the binoculars would allow Ghost Dragon to focus his sight on a point futher away and use the sense on it.
Of course, now that I think about it, that doesn't totally make sense.

Sorry guys for not participating. Life's been crap lately and I don't really get around to posting. However, seeing your postings I think all the stuff I would be doing would be pretty reduntant. Raiko
Feb 3 2004, 03:49 PM
I was under the same impression as Leowulf about astral perception through binoculars. I thought that you could perceive through any purely optical sensor, even those fibre-optic systems they have for very secure buildings.
I have to admit, this may have changed since 2nd edition without me noticing.
Grey
Feb 3 2004, 05:23 PM
AFAIK, you can use any type of optical device with astral perception. I don't have all my books on me right now, but I'm quite sure about this.
Shadow
Feb 3 2004, 09:59 PM
I can't find any reference to this at all. So until one of you guys can post a page number, you cannot use binocs to enhance astral pereption. Sure you can use it to cast spells like a sniper, but not to astrally percieve. I'll post a question over on the shadowrun forum though, just to be sure.
Grey
Feb 3 2004, 10:34 PM
In one of the rigger books (I think its R2) there is a system that some buildings install. Basicly, they run fiber-optic lines through the building, so the mage can sit in the war-room and use astral perception throughout the building. Though I think there was a +2 modifier or something.
Raiko
Feb 4 2004, 12:11 AM
@Shadow
If you need any perception rolls, you can make them for me in secret if you like, or just ask. Mirage has all of her sensory enhancements activated.
@Tinkergnome
Are you still at the bar with me & Danny, if so maybe one of us should move into the main room, just in case.
----------
BTW I've had a look, and I can't find anything in 3rd edition about Astral perception through optics (I was sure you could). The fibre-optic mage stuff is in the 'Corporate Security Manual' from 2nd edition, I've got it, but it's not handy and I suppose it's no longer really canon.
