Cynthia snorted "Seeing as those ears are not even twelve hours old, I didn't get to consider much as far as they're concerned. Except for stuff like 'why the hell do I have pointy ears?' and assorted thoughts." She flicked the tip of one of her ears, finding the sensation both familiar - it was just an ear after all, pointy or not - and foreign. She seemed to hesitate "I suppose I wouldn't have to worry about holes in my ears with clamps but wouldn't it be... I don't know, too...too much? I'd prefer simpler things, not over-ornate." she grimaced "I suppose I would survive if I had my ears pierced..." After a second, she shrugged "Let's do it the other way around: show me what you have that would be best, regardless of the type, and then we'll see if I need those holes or not. If it requires holes but I like it enough..." she sighed. She didn't have a good memory of the first time she had had her ears pierced, but she didn't remember it hurting much...

Taking back her hand, she seemed surprised for a moment, then slightly shook her head. She didn't really want to part with the ring "I think I'd best keep it for now so I can get used to it. It's been... A long time since I've worn any kind of jewellery."

Mama Lini nods and stands. "Let me get you some of what I have." She walks behind the counter and through the door behind it. She leaves it open and you can hear her rummaging about in the room beyond. A couple of times, she makes some remarks to herself in her Creole patois. She emerges after a few minutes and returns to the table carrying several small boxes. Taking a seat, she sighs. "I really need to redo my inventory and get things organized back there. Now, let's see what we have found, shall we?"

She opens a box and pulls out a short expanse of black velvet cloth with a whitish stone carved in the form of a woman's face. The woman is lovely and the carving is quite detailed. "This is a choker. They tend to come into and go out of style, but I think this one is very good for you. It will emphasize the curve of your neck and will certainly accent you gown for the evening, but I think it can go with almost anything. Here, try it on."

Cynthia took the choker in her hands, and stroke the stone a few times with her fingers. After a few seconds, she held it to Sandy "Will you help me put it on?" she turned around then, and moved her hair out of the way, presenting the nape of her neck to Sandy.

Once it was on, she put her hand on it, clearly unused to the sensation of something to tight around her neck. As she did, she looked into a nearby mirror, to see what was the result and asked "What do you think?"

You can feel Sandy's fingers tremble just a bit as she touches your neck gently, rubbing at it softly as she takes the velvet choker and fastens it at the nape of your neck. She leaves her fingers touching you just a few seconds after she is done and you think you hear a soft sigh as she moves back around to sit at the table again. Looking into the mirror, you are a bit startled by the way the two-inch wide black cloth looks against your skin. The carved stone at your throat looks...................well you will have to decide for yourself, but Mama Lini quietly says, "Very nice, child. Only, looking like that, you ain't no child. It looks very good on you."

Sandy says nothing, only nodding in agreement as a hand reaches for yours below the level of the table.

Cynthia shivered when Sandy's fingers lingered on her neck. A bit distracted, it took her a moment before she was able to focus on the mirror and what she was seeing, instead of what she was feeling. She turned her head to one side, then another, raising her hand to touch the stone. She nodded quietly, unsure of what to say. It was far from the greatest change of the day. Far from it in fact. But... somehow, it made everything even more real, visible and impossible to ignore.

Was it good or bad? She couldn't answer one way or the other. In fact, odds were it was neither: it just was. Was it going too fast? Maybe. But, if she stopped now, what good would it do? She took Sandy's hand with a little smile, and lightly shook her head to clear her mind "It looks..." she hesitated a bit "Nice I suppose... I don't know..." Raising her other hand to her hair, she grimaced. She hadn't really taken care of that, and a simple - and messy - ponytail wasn't exactly helping "I'll have to see with the dress, and once my hair are taken care of but... I.. it..." a bit lamely, she concluded "Could be nice yes."

Mama Lini nods. "You will see a difference when your hair is done. That tail is not bad, but it needs something. I do not know what, but I will look for it while you are out and will have it ready when you get back to Renee's for the gown."

Cynthia nodded "Alright I guess." She looked at the different things on the table, then cocked an eyebrow "So...Earrings?"

The voodoo woman smiles at you and nods before opening a larger box and removing two small silver clamps that are connected by fine chains. Each clamp has a gemstone in the shape of a four pointed star set in it. Sandy reaches for the clamps and tells you to sit still. You hear slight clicks but there is no pain as she fastens the clamps to the outer edge of your left ear, starting from near the tip and going down a couple of inches to fasten the second one. She sits back down again and nods.

Mama Lini pushes a second box over to you. "Here is a set for the other ear, but I do not know if it is needed. It is your choice, but you look very exotic, my dear."

Cynthia squirmed a bit as Sandy put the clamps on her ear, but let her proceed without comment. She seemed to tense a bit when the first clamp was fastened, but relaxed quickly. Once Sandy was back on her chair, she moved her ear a little, finding the sensation quite strange. Not really unpleasant, but definitely...weird.

She looked in the mirror then, angling her head to see the clamps on her ear. Mama Lini was right: she didn't recognise herself. To be fair though, it had been true all through the morning, since she woke up. She shook her head, deciding she shouldn't delve into that. The she shook her head a bit more, simply to feel the chains of the clamps on her ear, and finally nodded "I guess it'll depend on how Renee wants to do my hair. If it's on a side, draping a shoulder or something, then only one clamp will be necessary I suppose. If it's top or back, maybe both will be required." She paused, then shrugged "I guess we'll have to wait and see."

She kept silent for a moment, idly playing with her wrist. Finally, a bit hesitant, she asked "Do you have a watch?" she blushed a bit "I know it's pretty useless, especially to me, but..." she squirmed some more, then shrugged "I always felt..." She hesitated for a couple of seconds, unsure of how to express her feeling "I don't know, that it added something, that it completed things or... Well, something like that." she looked at Mama Lini then, hoping she understood what she had - badly - explained.

Mama Lini considers you for a bit then nods. "Yes, I can understand. It is a feeling you have, so maybe you have some of the sight, eh? I might have the thing." She stands and walks off into the shelves in the front of the shop, puttering about from one to the next than makes a sound of discovery and returns to the table and hands you a beat up case about two inches wide and ten long. The leather of the case is cracked and ridged, with a bit of metal showing through in a couple of places. "Try this, dear. It is very old and not much of the style of today, but it might be you."

Opening the old case, you see a wrist watch on a narrow black strap. "Now, this piece is completely mechanical and cannot connect to the matrix. I am told that is was originally meant to wind itself as your arm moves. I am afraid that it is not currently working and the strap will need replacing or repair. It is here simply as an antique but it has been here many years. If you want it, I would tell you to take it across the street and talk to Max. He is a throwback, much as all of us here are, but he is also a foreigner. He is very good with timepieces and should be able to help you out. If you take it, you will definitely be looking quite unique."

"I don't care if it can't connect to the Matrix, I can do it well enough." Cynthia grimaced slightly "It feels a bit stupid to want a watch when I don't even care about its main function..." she shook her head, deciding she won't pay any attention to that thing about Sight, and took the watch in her hands, looking at it for a moment. "Well... It's a bit hard to know how it'll look right now. And as far as looking unique..." she grimaced, for real this time "I guess watch or no watch, it won't change much..." And it didn't seem to be something she was looking forward too. Anonymity had its advantages after all, especially when you're used to it.

Finally, she shrugged, and nodded "Alright, I'll take it too and bring it to this Max then." She turned to Sandy then, and waving at her box, asked "You want some help to try your stuff?"

The woman nods and Sandy's eyes brighten. "Yes, please. I was having trouble with the clasp." She lifts her hair and hands you the necklace she was given. Standing behind her, you notice two slots on her neck. Her breathing get a little quicker when your fingers touch her skin.

As she wass putting the necklace on Sandy's neck, she played a bit, brushing Sandy's skin with her fingers. It seemed completely involuntary at the beginning, but then she insisted a bit more, turning around the two slots, taking her time to put the necklace on. With a small groan, she said "Wait, it's harder that it looks." From her tone, it seemed obvious she was smiling though, almost laughing, as she was enjoying taking her revenge. She bent over then, as if to look more closely at what she was doing. Then, as she finally fastened the necklace, her breath tickled Sandy's neck.

With a last brush of her fingers, she stood up "All done." and looking perfectly innocent, sat back down on her chair, to look at Sandy. She cocked her head to the side, then said, amused "You don't exactly have the right clothes for that but... It still looks good. Should be good tonight too."

Sandy seems to be having a bit of trouble breathing evenly as you sit down and she looks at you with wide eyes. Mama Lini chuckles. "You two aren't fooling anyone, you know. Why don't you just go to a bvedroom and get it over with and find out what it is all about. No one here will think any the less of you for doing it." She turns to appraise Sandy. "She is right, though. That necklace will go wonderfully with your gown tonight, but is a bit much for everyday wear. Let me see if I can do you something like what I did for Miss Cynthia."

The woman stands up and rummages about in her shop for a bit then returns with another older box. Sitting down, she opens it up and turns it to show you the double strand gold chain with a single large teardrop piece of carved amber attached to it. She takes it out of the box and shows both of you the amber. "Now, this used to be the gems of royalty in various far off places. Not saying that this piece was ever around the neck of some royalty, but it might have been. It is very old." She looks up. "You might ask me how old."

Sandy smiles and nods her head. "How old do you think it is?"

Mama Lini laughs. "That's right. I have to practice my patter for the tourists, though we don't rightly get many in here. Still, the story goes that this was found in an ancient burial site in Egypt. I don't know for sure, but it is possible. Anyway, I think it would look very nice on Miss Sandy's neck, don't you? Why don't you put it on for her, Miss Cynthia, and this time leave your hands on her neck a bit longer. I think she rather liked that."

Sandy looks over at you and blushes just a little, but her gaze does not waver as she hands you the necklace.

Cynthia didn't even pretend she didn't understand what Mama Lini was talking about. In fact, she blushed furiously, lowering her head, and refused to look at anyone for a while, terribly embarrassed. She barely looked at the gem, but seemed to forget a bit of her embarrassment when it was described. That didn't last long though as crimson quickly came back to her cheeks when Mama Lini suggested she not only continued, but even went farther.

Not meeting Sandy's gaze, she took the necklace and stood up again. While it had taken her a while to fasten the one Sandy was currently wearing, she removed it quite quickly. No doubt because she didn't try anything funny. She proceeded then to put the new - or older, depending on how you presented things... - necklace on Sandy's neck. Much like she had removed the previous one though, she didn't linger, and just did what she was supposed to before she returned on her chair.

She finally looked at Sandy then, and with a small smile, eyew twinkling, she asked "So, you're nobility now?"

You are not looking at Sandy, so you cannot see her reaction to Mama Lini's words. Your touch on her neck, though brief, does bring out a soft sigh from her. When you sit down and look at her, she returns your smile and simply nods. Mama Lini shakes her head and chuckles. "Both of you red as beets. You girls are going to have to get thicker skins if you are going to do this. Is there anything else I can do for you? Read your fortunes, perhaps?"

Cynthia grumbled, then shrugged. She couldn't really be more embarrassed than she already was anyway. She shook her head though "Since you need time for that, and we don't have any, especially if we have to see 'Max' for the watch, it'll have to wait for another day I'm afraid." She didn't seem particularly pained though...

She glanced at Sandy, then looked back at Mama Lini "So we'll pay what we owe you and be on our way." She gathered her stuff and stood up. As they were paying, she asked "Oh, you mentioned something for my hair. Should we come back here once we're done with Renee?"

Mama Lini shrugs. "I can have it delivered to Renee's shop. She is already calling in Marceau to do your hair and he can put it in better than I can. You two have a nice day, and I am sorry for embarrassing you."

Once you pay and leave, Sandy stops just outside the building and touches your arm. "I......I am sorry, Cynthia. I did not mean to embarrass you, either. The way you were touching my neck just left me breathless and I..........well, I just could not help smiling at you. Do you want me to go somewhere while you finish shopping?"

Cynthia nodded "Alright, thanks." For a couple of seconds, she wondered who still ignored what was going on here. Did everyone knew, better than they did themselves, what they were doing, or would do in the evening?

She focused back on Sandy when she talked. She seemed a bit amused at the mention of embarrassment, but frowned in clear displeasure when Sandy talked about going away. She took her hand, and walked a few steps, before asking "Why would I want you to go away?" She shook her head "I'm not embarrassed because anyone knows, or doesn't know, or whatever." She paused, then shrugged "Alright, maybe a bit. But... I don't really care what they think. It's just... I'm not used to... to feeling stuff...like that." she made some abstract gestures with the hand holding her stuff "It's all new, that's all."

Sandy's face lights up in an amazing manner. "It is all pretty new to me, too. And I cannot tell you how glad I am that you don't want me to leave."

Max's Timepieces is just across the street from Mama Lini's. The exterior is very much like that of every other building you have seen in the town, but the interior is far different. Clocks of many different types hang from the walls and sit on the several counters that seem to arc around the inside of the main room. A man is sitting at a desk and looks up when you walk in. "Good afternoon, Miss Cynthia, Miss Sandy. How can I help you?" His voice has a heavy German accent, rather than the French Creole you are used to hearing from the other people who live here.

Not saying anything more, Cynthia nodded. In front of Max, she greeted him "Hi." not bothering mentioning that again, someone knew who they were. She took out the watch, and put it on the counter "I would need a new strap for this watch. And I suppose a general maintenance wouldn't hurt. I'd need it done before six today, would that be possible?"

Max takes the watch and frowns at it then shakes it a bit before putting a lens in his eye and looking at it. "The strap, yes. Fixing the watch, no. That would take several days. I do have a nice one very much like it that does work, if you want to see it. For the strap, are you looking to just replace the leather or use something else in its place?"
Imladir

Frowning, Cynthia took a moment a moment to consider what had just been said. While she wanted the watch for its aesthetic properties, and didn't need it at all to know the time (what use is that when you're constantly connected to the Matrix after all?), to wear a broken watch would be pretty silly and on a whole other level. At least she could answer to the other part of the equation easily enough "I want something that fits on my wrist for the strap. Maybe leather, maybe something else. I don't really know what you have." As if it could help, she showed her thin wrist on the counter.

She kept silent for a couple of seconds then, trying to decide how to proceed "Maybe I could leave this watch here for repairs and borrow yours for the evening? Assuming it would fit of course."

Max smiles. "For you, Miss Cynthia, I can do that. I will fix this old device and turn something old and useless into something amazing. And for tonight, I have something nice for you. Wait here." The man rises and goes to one of the counters around the room. His right leg is a bit stunted so he walks with a decided limp. Returning, he lays a watch very similar to yours on the table in front of you and another in front of Sandy.

"Here you are young lady. I think this is pretty close to your, ya? And for you, Miss Sandy. You did not ask for one, but I think this suites you. Try it on"

Sandy looks at it and smiles. "I....I don't know. I really don't need a watch. It does look very nice, though, doesn't it?"

"Like a twin." Cynthia agreed. With a smile, she glanced at Sandy's and said "We'll be a match that way. It's not like I really need a watch either, since I always know what time it is. But it looks good I think."

She winced then, looking at Max "I suppose I shouldn't say it like that though, sorry." She lowered her head and focused on fastening the watch on her wrist. After that, she put it near Sandy's "See? It looks more... I don't know, adult? Sophisticated?" She shrugged "I don't know really, but I feel like it fills some kind of void." she frowned then, pensive "Which is a bit weird when you think about it, I never felt I needed a watch before..." she seemed lost for a moment, trying to decide how she felt about that.

Max shakes his head. "Yes, you are right and I take no offense, although it does you credit to say that. Most young people these days are so into the matrix that they have devices implanted in them to do all sorts of things, even tell time. But a good watch is always an asset, especially if you are in a place where the matrix is not available. And you are also correct when you say it makes you look sophisticated. There are some people who wear a watch just for that reason."

He looks closely at the older watch. "Now, do you wish to purchase this newer one or just use it as a loaner while I repair yours?"

At the mention of no matrix, Cynthia shivers. While not exactly a nightmare, it was definitely something really unpleasant she didn't want to experience. Ever.

Looking at the other watch, she shrugged "Considering that I just bought that one, I'll take yours as a loaner while you work on it if that's alright." With a frown, she added "Or for tonight at least."

Cynthia thought about that question for a few seconds, then shook her head "Not that I can think of, no." She glanced at Sandy, as if to ask if she had anything to see, then looked back at Max "Alright, we'll leave you to it. Good afternoon."

Outside of the shop, Cynthia spent a couple of seconds fiddling with her watch, then looked at the sky for a moment, gathering her thoughts. Soon, she said "Alright, I think we're done here. Time to go."

Grabbing Sandy's hand with a smile, Cynthia walked to the parking outside of town and their van. Once there, she gave Sandy the address where they're supposed to meet her armoured contact "That's where we have to go for 15:00. Think we can make a few stops along the way or should we go straight there?"

Sand has a broad smile on her face when you take her hand and she walks close to on the way to the parking lot. The man at the arch tips his hat to you as pass him and bids you to have a nice afternoon. Once at the van, she enters the address data you give her and hooks up to the console. "Hmmmm. Cynthia rubbed her chin, pensive "Maybe. We need a couple of cleaning drones, even if it's to look like everything is normal if the house cleans itself." she shook her head, not believing she said that seriously but didn't stop "I suppose we can order that on the Matrix though. We'll probably need a lot of stuff, for the bedrooms, the kitchen, bathroom etc. But again, we can order most of that on the Matrix, and it can wait for tomorrow anyway. I was thinking of taking some running stuff though." With a shrug, she explained "I like to run at dawn. Not that I'm particularly good at it, but..." With a small grimace, she said "Ten minutes might be a bit short, but I'll see if I can find something on the way."

Cynthia then tried to see if there was a store - selling good quality stuff - on the way to the meeting point where she could quickly grab what she needed. Nothing much, a few sports shorts, t-shirts, socks and panties, which should take her a couple of minutes at most, and a good pair of shoes. She was planning on five minutes for that, enough to try a few. If she managed to find something situated in the right place, she forwarded the address to Sandy.

The most important thing she did on the way though was to find a doctor who could receive here just after a meeting. A female doctor, whose speciality was genetics and if possible anything related to UGE. She didn't think she really needed that check-up but...she really wanted it. If necessary, she was ready to "massage" the doctor's agenda to find a spot at the right time.

The only store that might carry those things and is on the way is a Stuffer Shack. A check of the inventory as Sandy drives lets you know that they might have everything you need. Not only that, but you can order it and pick it up on the way.

On the way, you receive a message from Tanya. >>Cunthia [Tanya]: Sorry I have not got back to you on this before, but sometimes even my assets are not as quick as I would like. Cynthia hesitated. She wasn't sure she wanted to buy her shoes in a 'Shack. She didn't mind for any of the other stuff, but her shoes? In the end though, she decided to order what she wanted. If it fit what she wanted, it'd be all good, and if it didn't... She wouldn't have lost much anyway. "I ordered some stuff to a Stuffer Shack, I'll just have to try out the shoes. She then answered Tanya >>Tanya [Cynthia]: Oh, it's alright, thanks.<< and then called the office of the elven doctor.

>>Doctor Neithsin [Cynthia]: Hi. I don't have anything planned for Saturday I think, so any time you want is probably good for me. Unless it's too early since I'm in Seattle. Which is why I can't really make it today even if... Well, doesn't matter I suppose.<<

>>Doctor Neithsin [Cynthia]: Eleven? It's fine I suppose, thank you.<<

Once the communication ended, Cynthia sighed, then shook her head. If Saturday was the best she could get, Saturday it would have to be. She kept silent for a moment as she thought about the morning's events. After a minute or two, with a small smile, she laid on the side, almost in a foetal position to fit in the available place, and put her head on Sandy's thigh. She sighed tiredly then but didn't say a word. To say that she had dreamt of doing exactly that would have been an exaggeration, but...well... It sure felt nice. The van wasn't the best place to do it, but it would do. For now.

Sandy gives an audible sigh as you lay down and her hand moves to touch your face, gently stroking it with the tips of her fingers then moving to your neck. It is certainly possible that you can detect a bit of a tremble in her touch.

Had she been a cat, Cynthia would certainly have purred. Since she was not however, she simply closed her eyes to enjoy the moment, moving her head a bit to meet Sandy's fingers. Sleepily, and a bit teasingly, she said "Try not to throw us into a wall or anything..." After that she fell silent again.

As you lay there you think you hear a whispered, "I will never run you into a wall." Her touch is soft and soothing and then it is not. You feel a gentle push on your shoulder. "Hey, Cynthia, we're here. We have about ten minutes to go in and grab our stuff and be back on the road again. I hated to wake you, but you seemed to think it was important."

Cynthia sat up, a bit groggily. She blinked a few times, rubbing her eyes then nodded "No no, it's alright. I feel better now." She stretches a little, as far as she can in the van anyway "Much better."

She looked outside for a moment "Alright, let's grab what we need then."

Sandy takes your hand as the two of you walk into the 'Shack. You find that your order is ready and waiting, except for one of the small housekeeping drones, for which you are offered a credit or it can be delivered to you.

Cynthia checked the order, to make sure everything was fine. Regarding the drone, she didn't want a credit. What would she do with it? She could pay just fine thank you very much. As for delivery...she didn't exactly have an address where the drone could be delivered. So if there was none available to take right now, she cancelled that order: she'd just go to another 'Shack or something, it was no big deal.

Once everything had been set, both girls went back in the van to meet Taylor hopefully on time.

Sandy pulls the van up to the address you gave her and parks. "Hey, got you here on time and in one piece. Do you want me to wait in the van?"

Cynthia shook her head "Nah, come. You'll need some stuff too." She glanced at Sandy's t-shirt with a wry smile "As we saw yesterday, your t-shirt is not exactly bulletproof. So even if you stay on the side while you do your thing with drones, it would be best if you had at least some protection."

She exited the van then, and walked to meet Taylor. "Hey Taylor. Sorry I couldn't make it this morning but..." she spread her arms "As you can see I had other problems..."

"Holy Shit, girl. What happened to you. You going for that Elf poser thing or what?" Taylor shrugs. "No skin of my nose, but I bet most of anything you had before don't fit no more. What can I get you and who's the cute friend?"

Sandy actually blushes a bit. "I'm Sandy."

Taylor laughs. "Of course you are. So, what do you guys need?"
