Closest I ever lived to Alabama was Northern Ireland, that being a few hundred miles closer than where I am now smile.gif

As to the money, 4k did sound like a reasonable opening offer.

What specifically are you looking for? Just the stats, some idea of what the node is, something else? I ask because depending on what you want to know will color how I answer.

Can I have a Judge Intentions roll to see it there's anyway of getting him to divulge the employer or if Angel should just drop it and go for more money?
Karoline
Most looking for stats, also looking for what kind of node it is, like what its name is and whatnot.

If you're worried about setting of alarms does it really count as doable?

Sure. I could get in. That makes it doable. It doesn't make it a good idea....

The man runs for a parked car. He is short of breath and looks ready to drop. As his hand touches the door, the car starts and the door opens; however, the enhanced German Sheppard grabs his ankle. He tosses what appears to be a credstick into the car and says, "Execute phi delta 7."

Not insinuating that some bad happened to them. But from the information that we have, we only know that they looked at other options. We don't know why. smile.gif So ... hoping that Flash will push a bit to find out, and maybe push the premium a little. After all, time is money. wink.gif Nick isn't the social type to press it himself however.

Quick Post ™
I managed to catch up on reading tonight; however, today was about as ugly as a two headed goat stuck under a barbed wire fence. (How's that for a country-ism?)

Anyway, I shall post IC tomorrow. That would be Tuesday for those of you here in the US.
fistandantilus4.0
"country-ism"? You're about three hours north of me, and while that is about as back water as California gets (unless you've visited the "State of Jefferson", you're a looong way from "country." biggrin.gif You're not country until your story starts with "So I was drunk with my sister..."
ludomastro
True; however, I was born and raised in Alabama on a family-sized cattle ranch. So, yes, I am currently a loooong way from country but I remember.
fistandantilus4.0
biggrin.gif Alright, sounds like you've got credentials then.

Query: No obvious effect from compiling a sprite right?

As a side note, Encryption was running before, using the old set that Flash and Nick used before. The next set is a threaded up upgrade set, wit ha sprite for overwatch.

Not that he would notice.

And, yes, it was bad form. And, no, it wasn't. It's complicated.

For those that don't know, Dreamland BBQ is a Tuscaloosa institution in real life. In my version of 2070 T-town, it still is.

*snicker* He's passing out armored vests for us biggrin.gif

Seems somewhat counter-intuitive for a mission in which he wants us to not be on the news.
Zyerne
Angel's already overencumbered, I'm not sure a second vest will help much smile.gif

Good question. I was thinking it was some sort of Disneyland type place or something, but then I saw the BBQ part. Is a restaurant of some kind really going to draw down the entire city if we cause a fuss?

Under normal circumstances, I would say no. However, this is a place that has a certain amount of tradition and history to it. Without waxing poetic, Big Daddy - yes, that was what everyone called him - started a little BBQ place out on the east side of town down Jugs Factory Road. He complained when the health department told him he couldn't keep cooking ribs on the Cadillac grill over a log fire. He complained when they told him he had to put a roof over the kitchen. He complained when they told him that sawdust was not an acceptable flooring material. He really complained when they found out he hadn't been paying sales tax.

The original restaurant - it's still there - only serves two things. Ribs and white bread. You don't order so much as the waitress sizes you up and yells back to the kitchen. Then you can ask for a soda or beer and if they still have them, some chips.

During University of Alabama football game weekends, I have seen the line for the original restaurant stretch for over two hours to get inside. The line just to buy the BBQ sauce line is shorter (about 45 minutes) but you have to cook your own meat somewhere else.

Big Daddy died many years ago but, the family is still making ribs. The original restaurant is still there doing things the way that Big Daddy wanted them done. However, they did sell the rights to use the recipes to a development company that has made Dreamland™ something of a chain in the state.

Southern traditions can get very territorial and crazy. e.g. A friend from out of state once called the Alabama football stadium "The Temple" because more people worshiped there than did at any given church, synagogue or mosque. Following that logic, Dreamland™ would be the Temple of Ribs.

According to various sources, it's a major hangout for college football fans. What sport is filling that spot in 2070?

(Also, #1 mailorder bbq in in the US apparently)

The area is basically a ghetto. There is a huge troll and ork population. Specifically, it is the highest concentration of trolls in Tuscaloosa and one of the highest in Alabama. Most are un- or under-employed with those that have jobs working in manual labor or thug-style muscle. There are a few underground industries: mostly low grade BTLs and high grade chemical pharmaceuticals drugs. T-MAP, the local cops, take a cut and let them operate as long as they keep it quiet. They come down like the proverbial hammer if they don't.

Intuition 3 + Tuscaloosa Go-Gangs 4 [5,4,3,5,2,6,3]=3 hits

There are two gangs in the area; however, only one qualifies as a go-gang, barely. The Sons of Thunder is a virtually all troll gang (a very tough ork can get in if he doesn't mind staying at the lower levels) who function much like the police for the area. The Southern Riders is a mostly ork go-gang that prides itself on poking T-MAP in the eye on a regular basis. This leads to confrontations with the Sons of Thunder as they will occasionally work with T-MAP to keep the area "safe" for those rich enough to pay and wanting to eat at Dreamland.

College football is still being played and watched. However, urban combat has taken over as the number one sport. You can also watch Rural Combat™ a new CAS game where hunters ingest excessive quantities of alcohol and are told to hunt augmented feral pigs. The death toll is quite high with successful hunters retiring after three or four wins.

@Fisty: You think anyone's actually going to take a vest? smile.gif

No, that's why I'm wondering why offer them. I can understand a run where gear is offered as part of the payment. But why put it out afterwords, and as was noted, after he'd said to keep things quiet. Heavier armor tends to encourage cowboy hijinks. And if they were good vests, there'd be the possibility. But one of them being described as being particularly ratty doesn't speak much for the bunch either. So why?

Johnson is already pretty squirrely, and in a real hurry to get us out of there, and out the back. Don't like him, don't trust him.

Although it's totally possible that we have a different expectation than Alex. But for someone savvy enough to have headware or maybe be a techno, and run a hack and sell a job at the same time, seems a little odd that he'd not manage things like giving the crew their money before he leaves.

Alex: What kind of commlink is it? Are we talking disposable comm? Seems a bit much to leave a whole comm behind when he could route account numbers, or even leave certified cred on a stick. Maybe that's just me though.

And I know I might be over analyzing, but isn't the name of the game functional paranoia? biggrin.gif
Zyerne
Certainly for MITNick. One really paranoid member per team should cover for everyone else smile.gif
fistandantilus4.0
Yep, that's MITNick. biggrin.gif Glad he doesn't have much competition for the spot. He was the paranoid one for the last run he was in too. Seems to be his niche really.

This is actually a remake of the guy I played a while back. Started out as the noob in a group wit hserious street cred already. Had a bit of hero worship going on. That was until two of the team members got into a gun fight in thier hotel room with each other. No enemies, no nothing, just two idiots shooting at each other. MITNick took cover in the bath tub. Been pretty paranoid ever since. So now he pretty much keeps to himself. FLash is good by him though.

Dreamland is awesome. I can attest to this fact smile.gif

yeah, I know. I was thinking this:
  • He's happy that he got a troll-sized anything
  • He doesn't want to insult his host
  • He's not savvy (or paranoid) enough to worry about implanted RFID and so on
Redjack
And Flash has debts. He's thinking about the pawn value here. To hell with fence, these aren't stolen.

I was kind of considering that too, if it would be worth the effort (and possible risk) of carrying it around for the 300ish nuyen it would net.
ludomastro
Clarification:
The tunnel is a little short for 'normal' sized folks. The troll will functionally be crawling.

---~~---~~---

Your Questions:
Commlink is a standard, virtually throw-away model.

Assensing the Johnson nets you nothing. It's as if he isn't there.

Did I miss anything?

---~~---~~---

My Questions:
@ Karoline: What exactly is Step doing with the interesting node. The way I'm reading it, you aren't doing anything.

@ All: Where is everyone at this very moment.
phlapjack77
Ludo had walked over to the old man to receive the vest. After crawling outside he's still holding the vest (since he's already wearing one smile.gif). He had moved over to talk to Step, hovering around her now a little bit.
Zyerne
I got the impression Step was already outside when she spoke to Ludo.

As a safety precaution, simsense overrides your motor functions while you are in VR so that you don’t unknowingly move in the real world and potentially harm yourself or your surroundings. This means that your physical body is limp while you’re online, as if you were sleeping. With great difficulty, you can still perceive through your meat senses or move your physical body while in VR
Great difficulty usually involves heavy penalties for actions in both the physical and the virtual.

Alex - Do I need any sort of roll for searching the map for pawn shops?

It comes in the form of a -6 for physical actions.
