I just thought that was a quoteworthy phrase

"Jeez Doc, he'd broken his fingers trying to escape and we were worried about infection. . . ."

... so we shot him. wobble.gif
WinterRat1
Hey we didn't shoot anyone!

Yet.

Except for all those guys we shot in the last couple of days.

And all those guys we shot on our way here.

And all those guys we're planning on shooting who are coming here.

And all those guys we're planning on shooting once we leave here.

But yeah, other than those guys, we haven't shot anyone!
Cedric Rolfsson
Ronin, check the time stamp on your last entry please. Its posted before WinterRat1 and SR13's last posts. I'm not sure if that was your intention or not.

BC, also, please check me on the reality factor here. I know tht Erebus has Muscle Aug and is very strong but he's carrying a ton of stuff now and I'm wondering where I hit encumbrance rules. He's carrying his Gaurdian, his Predator, his Berretta and now his AK. He's also got all his armor a bunch of extra clips, and some electronics equipment. I'm just wondering about when I should start looking at encumbrance penalties or if I'm still okay.
bclements
Hmm, good question. Are you cleared for SR4 yet, or still on SR3? Spoiler or PM me your physical attributes (including Quickness if SR3) and I'll let you know.

Also, 'Ronin's timestamp is correct.
banditf50
Cedric, you PC is cleared for SR4 on all of your attributes and skills, so go ahead and give those to BC. I am still mulling over what exactly to do about your resources and contacts, mainly trying to figure how to best give you everything that you deserve. Go ahead and use your SR4 conversion!
bclements
I think my character's going to ask Erebus for a loan, in that case. rotfl.gif

Note: there aren't any real encumberance rules in SR4, but I don't want any Stay-Puft Marshmellow Men running around. Even the goons here aren't going to carry the kitchen sink to come kill you.
banditf50
Umm. . . the idea that you do not consider missle and rocket class weapons to be "throwing the kitchen sink" frightens me BC . . . . shudder

Unless you were referring to the approaching goons! Though I was still holding out hope that they are bringing our pizzas smile.gif
bclements
I have not yet begun to throw the kitchen sink. Though I should say y'all have.

EDIT: Also, bandit, you forget who my player GM is (and now your player GM). Kitchen sinks come in a lot of sizes. wink.gif
WinterRat1
BC - You mentioned to watch the time stamps. Is there a particular time we should not post past?

I'm a little uncertain if I can/should post as Dragon or if I have to wait on you or someone else, or not post past a particular time. Clarification please.
bclements
The cars, by the best of Daed's estimation, are going to arrive at 02:10:46 or close to that. I'd like everyone to not jump forward in time past that.
WinterRat1
Because they'll be delivering our pizza, right? wink.gif
bclements
To steal a line from Mister Juan:

"Who ordered the big italian sausage pizza?"
WinterRat1
Ah I see. You just want us to be able to play out gunning this guy down, is that it? smile.gif

Hey, thanks for checking for the timestamp Cedric.

I thought I posted regarding the overall time scheme but apparently it was lost to the wild winds of the internet nyahnyah.gif (or I cancelled it instead of hitting add reply)

But yeah I guess its all clarified.

02:10:46 is when Daed is estmating their arrival.

for BC, and anyone else who cares.

Question (I don't have my books with me): To set up a secure channel does everyone have to have encryption or can it be done with only one person having encryption? I am guessing everyone has to have encryption, but I am hoping that I am wrong.
banditf50
Looks like the moment of reckoning has come for Dragon, or at least a very emotional discussion with an angry, and soon to be horrified Doc.

Go easy on him WR, he's helping us out smile.gif
WinterRat1
In all honesty, it shouldn't be that bad. Remember, Doc did give us that wicked looking medical tool that can take the flesh right off of bone, which Dragon didn't use.

So while he might be bothered by the torture, there's no reasonable way he can claim ignorance of what was happening here.

Oh, you wouldn't happen to know if he ever dabbles in organlegging, would you?"

A rather dubious question if I've ever heard one.

QUOTE
Dragon pauses for a moment, then decides he'd better clarify. "And when I say 'handle', I mean address his concerns and smooth his feathers. Not the permanent kind of handling."

Hahaha....

1. Hey, we weren't really planning on letting this guy walk out of here alive, were we? We need to dispose of the body anyway, so this is a win-win scenario. Doc gets to make some extra money on the side for no real effort, we get to dispose of a body quickly and painlessly. Something for everyone.

2. I felt it prudent for Dragon to clarify, since his reputation for mercy probably isn't doing so hot right now.
bclements
I like the line of thought, and will file it away for use in the not too distant future.

'Ronin, you've got PM wink.gif
WinterRat1
Cedric - Would Erebus have replied to Dragon by now? As a player, I would obviously prefer to wait for his response to Dragon's questions, but I understand if he wouldn't have had time yet. Let me know if I should post a reply or if you plan on having Erebus respond to Dragon first.
bclements
It's a little long for 5 seconds, and I apologize for that. Erebus could have responded in the time as well.

The perils of internal communications...
Cedric Rolfsson
I'm going to talk to Doc about this. Remember, he does hang out with the Princes of the Blood street gang so violence is probably not the problem. He probably wouldn't even freak if we had just shot the guy, but he's a Bear shaman as well as having had some kind of medical training so he draws the line at torture. Just remind him that this fragger shot an anti-personnel rocket into a bar of dock workers about two hours ago and explain that if we turned him over to the Star he'd get a death sentence anyway.
WinterRat1
Good points. I'll refer him to you and explain those facts. I'll try to get up a post later today. Busy day at work today.
Cedric Rolfsson
I put up a post, sorry about the delay life is crazy here. My brother got married this weekend and the pastor forgot to actually sign the documents, so we're not really sure if he's married or not yet. Who gets married on a freaking Sunday!?! I came to work hung over and dead tired, that was horrible.

BC, can you tell me if there are any windows near the door where we came in? I don't want to just stick my head out the door to look but I also don't want to be standing on the inside of a door just as the anti-armor rocket comes knocking.
banditf50
Making sure the marriage license is actually signed . . . I'm adding that to my mental checklist of things to watch out for as I get ready for my own wedding nyahnyah.gif

Thanks Cedric . . . congrats to your brother!
Cedric Rolfsson
Oh ya Bandit, btw, the voice of wedding experience here again, do NOT keep a bottle of Tequila in the groomsman's waiting area, very bad plan.

Can someone please answer this question for me? BC if no one else. I haven't gotten a ruling on this yet.
bclements
Ouch. Missed that. I'll have you an answer this evening (don't have the SR3 book at work) unless Grendel or another GM want's to step in and give a quicker ruling.

No windows at ground level; the door is like an overhead garage/warehouse door that some of the more sober gangers are cranking up.
bclements
Straight from the rules man's mouth:

QUOTE ('grendel')

All comm devices on the network have to have a common encryption code. The overall encryption rating for the network is equal to the lowest encryption running on the network. Thus if there are comm devices with a rating of 0 (no encryption) then the overall network must be set at 0.

WinterRat1
Sigh, that's what I remembered, but I was hoping I was wrong. Thanks BC.

OK team, Channel Beta is NOT encrypted or secured. D&D V3, channel Alpha IS secured. I have encryption, the backup unit Susan got for Virgil has encryption, and Daedalus BETTER have encryption, given his character concept. cyber.gif
Tiredronin
heh in terms of organ donation, you should have slit his throat or something. nyahnyah.gif
though.. is this day and age does organ donation even exist? what with synthetic organs and all.

bclements
Ah, just hit him on the head really hard. You want to get him brain dead for organ donation currently. In SR times, I'd just imagine that you'd open him up when he was still awake smile.gif

EDIT: The car's will arrive in the morning (read: I'll have a post up then).
WinterRat1
Whoops, you're right. BC, can I edit to have Dragon crushing his skull or stabbing him in the head or something?

And when I said 'unconfirmed organ donor' what I really meant was 'spare parts for organlegging'. smile.gif
bclements
If you want, that's fine. I'm sure that some Tanamous doc can still make some money off of him (liver, kidneys, etc).
bclements
Sorry, work kept me tied up all day (funny how work can do that while you're at work).

I'll try to have a post up this evening, and by tomorrow A.M. at the latest. Thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, I'd ask that no one go past the timestamp in 'Ronin's post.

BC on June 14 you wrote;

"Note: there aren't any real encumberance rules in SR4, but I don't want any Stay-Puft Marshmellow Men running around. Even the goons here aren't going to carry the kitchen sink to come kill you."

I was looking at SR4 for something else and saw this, carrying capacity and encumbrance rules are on p. 300, I thought I'd let you know for your review.
banditf50
Here is a summary of the rules on SR4 page 300:

QUOTE
A character's carrying capacity is (STR x 10) kilograms without needing any test.  A (STR + Body) test can be made to lift more with each success allowing for an extra kilograms.

For every 5 kilograms that a character exceeds his carrying capacity, a -1 dice pool modifier is applied to all physical actions.  The absolute max that a character can ever carry is (STR x 20) kilograms.
WinterRat1
I will be out of town for the weekend and away from any computers until Monday afternoon/evening.
bclements
First off (particulary to Cedric and generally to everyone else) let me say that I'm quite happy with anyone checking the rules. Please, keep it up, 'cause it makes me both a better GM later on, makes everyone more used to the new rules set, and makes the goons you may or may not have to deal with later on more realistic and approporate to your characters. Every bit of help and guidence I can get is a boost.

I'll also apologize to Cedric that, because he spoke up, Erebus got dinged. I've made a note to double check loudouts and carried gear so that I can apply what I've ruled uniformly across everyone (goons possibly encountered included).

With that, let me explain my thought process on this:

The rules on page 300 were the ones I used, however no weight for any gear is listed in the book. The guidence mentioned was (I'm using the Version 1.3 of the PDF, but it's not changed from the print book that I've got, so everyone on SR4 should still be covered by this):

QUOTE

As long as your players are reasonable about the carrying abilites of their characters, there is absolutely no need for the gamemaster to micromanage weights and encumberance (and if they aren't reasonable, feel free to penalize them appropriately).

This is the main guidence that I used when answering Cedric's question. Cedric brought up his character's loadout (again, to his credit). His current total loadout (armor, weapons and ammunition) did not seem to me to be reasonable with the SR4 guidelines and his character's attributes with respect to initiative and reaction.

Since the SR4 main book doesn't have weights listed for equipment, I'm having to use some judgement to in the ability to carry these things, and on Erebus for carrying (to me) an outsize portion of weapons and ammo, in addition to armor. Carrying something is one thing (and Erebus is certainly capable of it), but carrying and being mobile with the things that are being carried is a different thing.
Cedric Rolfsson
See this is what happens when you start trying to be realistic. smile.gif

No offense taken, I'm one of those players who wants my characters to act as real as possible, and I realized that I'd IC posted picking up so much crap that my guy would be stubbling around clanking and clattering while trying to remain upright. I'd reached my own ridiculous quota.

One of the questions I had, (which I believe BC answered) is do we have to post IC the mundane acts of putting down a bunch of stuff? I've never played by post and I get confused about how much stuff to post IC and how much we post OOC and how much the players and GM can just assume.

BC, can Erebus make out any other person's in the vehicles? He'll flip through IR and Low Light as needed to view the interiors.
bclements
Erebus sees a couple of more pizzas in the first car on the IR spectrum, but nothing humanoid.

Everyone's free to post as well.

Temporary absence notice

My grandfather died this past weekend, so I will be leaving town today to tend to my family and the funeral arrangements. I will be back online on Thursday. Thank you all.
