Well paper towels and such would be up near the front (L21 - O21 on the grid). But you think you can see some clothes racks just beyond Statice (L14 - O14 on the grid).
Now that you have armor on you probably didn't take that box of stun damage from the shelves, but go ahead and add your Impact armor to that roll, just to make sure.

Called Shot:
[ Spoiler ]
When a shot is called, either of the following may occur, at the player’s choice and with the gamemaster’s agreement.
• Target an area not protected by armor. Th e attacking character receives a negative dice pool modifi er equal to the target’s armor (better armor is more difficult to bypass). If the attack hits, the target’s armor is ignored for the damage resistance test; the target rolls only Body.
• Target a vital area in order to increase damage. Th e attackingcharacter can choose to increase the DV of his attack by +1 to +4, but receives an equivalent dice pool modifi er to the attack. So a character that opts to increase his attack by the maximum +4 DV suff ers a –4 dice pool modifi er on the attack.
• Knock something out of the target’s grasp. Th e attacking character receives a –4 dice pool modifi er on the attack. If the modifi ed Damage Value of the attack exceeds the target’s Strength, the target loses his grip on the object. Th e gamemaster determines whether or not the object is damaged and how far away it is knocked.
• Th e gamemaster may also allow other specifi c eff ects for called shots if he chooses. For example, you could use called shots to knock an opponent over a ledge, shoot out a tire, temporarily blind an opponent, etc.
So basically you could either use a called shot to the head to increas the DV of your shot (suffering an equal negative modifier to your dice pool), or you could use a called shot to the head to avoid the armor (suffering a negative modifier to the dice pool equal to your opponents armor).
The laser sight gives you a +1 modifier on your dice pool (not compatible with smartlink).

It might be worth getting off a few shots at her with my Viper before I change weapons - if she goes down the beastie might be "easier" to deal with (NOTE : jot this down in my "favourite last words" list)
I take it I got 3 phases to act this turn right?

Well really, you haven't seen enough of Zany to tell more than she's wearing some skimpy clothes and a long coat. Currently she is crouched down behind that island countertop so you can't really see much of her. You have to move to a better position and use up a Simple Action to Observe in Detail to be able to tell whether or not any of her clothing is armored.
With your Wired Reflexes II turned on you do now have 3 Initiative Passes. (If you survive that long, hehe)

Spike is wearing an armored jacket so that would be -8 to your dice pool, also if you are firing from cover there is and an addition -1 modifier, and yet another modifier of -2 for the range. So a total of -11 if you are shooting from cover or -10 if you step out into the open.

So the Spirit is up first: It is going to run over to DarHar. As it is running it becomes apparent that its feet aren't touching the ground at all as it rises upward to eventually stop a few inches above teh island countertop DarHar was standing behind.
As it reaches DarHar, it attacks him with clawed hands scoring 4 successes. Now there are four ways to defend against Melee attacks:
1) You can parry if you had a melee weapon in hand using Reaction + the weapon skill. (But you don't have a melee weapon out, so you can't use this currently)
2) You can try to block by using Reaction + Unarmed Combat Skill (in your case that would be part of the Close Combat Group)
3) You can try to dodge by using Reaction + Dodge Skill
4) You can go on full defense, sacrificing your next Complex Action, and rolling either Reaction + (Dodge x 2), or Reaction + Dodge + melee combat skill, or Reaction + (Melee combat skill x 2).

Seriously I do not know how that would come into play - what are the rules for reach...And I will prolly need some info on mellee as it might turn out I might do better if I get a spur or two out and teach that thing a lesson about materialising in the wrong place and wrong time...
some questions on cybermellee:
What do I roll? I guess it is gonna be Close Combat again but is it with Reaction or Strenght or what?
Does Bone Lacing give some extra bonus to the retractable spur damage?
Is a mellee attack a single complex action?
What else should I ask?

edit: Ooops...for some reason I was thinking he got 5 successes. Shalimar is correct. You were able to block the attack.
I had also forgotten your natural Reach. With Reach you could have given him a -1 modifier on the dice pool or you can add +1 to your own dice pool.
Slacker
Sep 20 2005, 11:35 PM
By the way, in SR4 melee the defender cannot damage the attacker. There also are no rules for two-weapon melee fighting.
As I think I mentioned to you once (or maybe it was a different player), the only thing Bone Lacing does for melee is make it do physical damage, that is it.
When your turn comes you could attack him with your spurs using your Close Combat Skill Group + Agility and you can apply your Reach as a bonus to your dice pool or a negative to his dice pool.
And yes, Melee Attacks are Complex Action.s

Dammit...I forgot my notes on the NPC's at work. Guess I'll just wing it. Looks like Wiley is about to die anyways.
Wiley only got 1 success to dodge the first shot, so the DV is 7. And he got 1 successes to resist the damage so he takes 6 boxes of damage, putting him at 11 boxes and so he falls to the ground dieing.
So Tempty did not fire the second shot at him and has a Simple Action left.
While I am waiting to here what Tempty is doing with the other Simple Action she now has, let's hear what actions Taku and DarHar will be taking.

Tempty currently has partial cover from Zany, so you will still suffer the -1 modifier.
Zany has no cover from you though, so no modifier there.
Zany is just barely withing short range, so no modifier there.
However, you will be suffering -2 modifier because she is your second target.
You'll also be suffering the -1 modifier for recoil.

First off Static is just human, so he doesn't have reach. The only troll in the whole place is DarHar. If I ever said/emplied otherwise sorry about that.
Walking is fine, but you will be suffering a -1 modifier on your roll as you try to maintain balance.
Also, Karate is mostly fists so having your pistol in hand will be a hinderance. You could drop it as a Free Action, or take a -1 modifier on your roll.
Don't forget the -2 from the stuff on your face.
You roll your skill + Agility - modifiers.
@
netlich:
[ Spoiler ]
You were rolling properly, but you were actually, but since he had attack you in melee you are suffering -3 dice for using Ranged attack while in melee.
Ok, on the first shot, the Spirit used a point of Edge to add dice to its Reaction Test, and he gets 7 successes, meaning you got 1 net success, upping your DV to 9. Not enough to make it through the Hardened Armor (though only because you are using flechette ammo), so the slivers bounce off of it.
Second shot, it didn't even bother with using Edge. It only got 3 successes, giving you 2 net successes, upping your DV to 10. Again not enought to make it through the Hardened Armor (and again that is simply because you are using flechette ammot that adds 2 to its armor). So the slivers bounce off of it yet again.
Collateral Damage: The slivers from the first shot bounce off the Spirit and shatter the Synthmeat "Hot Dog" dispenser spilling 'hot dogs" all over the ground along with the island countertop the Spirit is "standing" on.
And it looks like basically the same thing happened for the second shot. So the general area is now covered in difficult ground.

Forgot about something, Dead Man's Trigger. It's a special use of Edge that gives a character falling unconscious a chance to do one simple action as long as they haven't done anything this Combat Turn or have an action left over from their turn.
He made the Body +Willpower (3) Test that allows this to work and he fires a single shot at you as he falls.
At this point he is out of Edge and suffering a -3 from wounds, so he doesn't have much chance, but he does get 2 successes.
You should be able to dodge that.

DEAD MAN’S TRIGGER
A character may invoke the Dead Man’s Trigger rule to perform one final action before dying or falling unconscious. To do so, the following conditions must be met:
1) Th e character must still have an available action left (either a held action, an extra action, or one that hasn’t occurred yet because the character was taken down in a pass before he could act). If a character already used up all his available actions for his Combat Turn, he’s out of luck.
2) Th e character must spend 1 Edge point. Th is just activates the Dead Man’s Trigger; it doesn’t add any extra Edge dice to any tests (the character may spend extra Edge, however, to augment tests as normal) If the character has no Edge left , he’s out of luck.
3) Th e character must make a Body + Willpower (3) Test. Note that this takes place aft er the Edge Point is spent. If the character passes all three conditions, he may perform one fi nal Simple Action (no movement), which is resolved as normal.

I think the best policy with edge, at least in general is going to have to be save it for defense, otherwise, blowing it on offense is rather risky since the enemy can still beat you making your use, useless. I think it'll end up being an attrition thing, save up your edge for defense, and simply try to throw so many bullets at the enemy that they cannot use edge on all of them, sort of Plink away at their health. Then again I am just using a pistol as opposed to Shotguns, etc, if something has a high enough damage code it might change things.

@Shalimar: Good point about the cyber. As all of the lights have gone out and there is no light coming in from outside due to the storm, Thermo would be the best and even then you are at a -3 modifier.
Because you were distracted by the lights shutting off and activating your Thermgraphic vision, and he is quite a ways off to your left and out of your field of vision, you probably still weren't aware of the attack.
You forgot to subtract 1 from your roll because of the AP (Armor Penetration of the shotgun), but you were still able to resist all of the damage with your 8 successes.
@All: By the way, I don't think I mentioned it previously, but being shot from behind does not all for any defense at all, just the damage resistance roll.
