First off, thanks as always guys.
As KK said I've got a few people in line before the epic duo is gonna get started . I'll make sure to post the sketch first on that one for sure. I've been feeling a slight improvement in my work lately so hopefully that will show when we got to the kk+skate picture.
Anyways, as always apologies for skipping around a bit (waregear), but I felt more compelled to do this image up this morning:

Thank my crappy headcold for me being off work today and doing this picture, that and me finishing off the last episode on my Smallville season 5 set.... |

I look forward to seeing the end results of my request, but I just as avidly look forward to everyone elses pics as well. |
...likewise, I have been building a gallery as well.
With how far your technique has progressed, I almost...almost...would like to see another stab at Leela (runner version) and Violet...sometime, but you have your hands full for now. Maybe later.
Still love your pic of Hannah BTW. I have a print which I keep with her character folio.
Also went ahead and reworked Markova for SR4.

Hey, are you still doing character sketches? Because I'd love one. My character is named Becka. She's a drop bear with sable fur, coral colored eyes, ear tips marked with chocolate tufts.
Thanks!

Style of dress, very "street chic".
Background:
Nona is truly sinless, a wily little street kid who knows little of her true past anymore. She came from a poor family who like many of their kind lost everything in the Crash of 64. The only faint memories she had were those of her father teaching her the basics of self defence, and her mother always saying that she had a special gift that someday could help at least her to escape from the ghetto.
[Note: this is a character who really would work with the old Flashbacks flaw. One day she was rudely awakened by a loud shuddering. Looking about she saw she she was on the floor, buried amidst a pile of blankets and some of her clothing. When she called out to her parents there was no answer. Going out into the main room, she saw all the furniture was gone and there were bloodstains on the floor. There was another strong shudder and the then one of the walls began to crack. Looking out the window she saw several construction machines, one which was tearing at the corner of the building. Scared she grabbed what she could and ran down the back steps, hiding in some rubble nearby. There she watched as the only home she ever knew was demolished by the machines which appeared almost like prehistoric monsters feeding on an old carcass. The horrific vision of this and the blood stains on the floor have always been with her]
Life on the streets was a rough one, but Nona (the name she took after a city social worker muttered "No Name" when she stayed for a while at a shelter) made the best of it. The unique gift her mother talked about began to manifest itself as her adept powers began to mature. Though her formal education, as meager as it was, had ended, she became a quick study of the "streetwise way" and adapted surprisingly well. One of her major talents to surface was her silvery tongue, which saved her little butt on more than one occasion. She made an adequate living at shoplifting, pickpocketing, card, and slight of hand games.
One evening she felt a presence as she was working on some new parlour tricks to con the unwary out of their "hard earned" nuyen. This strange presence seemed to comfort her almost in a parental way. It told her it would help her become even better at fooling the foolish while becoming more resistant to being fooled herself (the +2 to Con tests and a +2 to Resisting Illusion Magic) All she had to do was promise to pull tricks on others whenever the situation presented itself. Up to the challenge, she accepted.
Over the years Nona has established herself as more than just a simple street urchin. (though she can still play the act pretty well). Like her mentor, she enjoys pulling pranks and fleecing the unaware. She has also made some pretty important friends including a gang Lieutenant who has taken the role of her "big brother", and an excellent Hacker who is her matrix "guardian angel". Her street name of course was an easy one after hearing people refer to her as "Brat" all the time. In RL, the name came from a painting I saw on display at a cafe of a sly looking streetwise teenage girl which was titled "Da Brat"
Nona usually gets around via rollerblades (has the latest Z-Line retractable rollerblade boots, kind of like a high tech version of the sneakers kids have in RL today with the concealed roller wheels) or Skatebaord. On missions, she often wears an old Seattle Bombers (the local Rollerderby team) helmet. For more "social" occasions she wears a British driving cap and a slightly "too big" tweed sport coat (with the leather elbow patches) with a tie (of course underneath her Armoured Jacket).

OK, the last few sketches have been totally awesome, so I thought I would post a character or two for you to play with and see what happens with them...
Name: Kada Sanchez aka "Inquisitor"
Description: 5'7" tall, lithe and athletic build, she is half Native American (Zuni) and half Hispanic. She has brown eyes and brown, shoulder-length brown hair that has been twisted into numerous small braids, each ending in a small charm. She has a tattoo of a band of arrows encircling her right bicep and a medicine man eye tattoo on the back of her left hand. Dresses in camo clothing while on the job (tank top when she's not working).
Her specialty is firearms of all sorts and she rarely goes anywhere unarmed. While she does have some implantation, all of her modifications are subdermal, masking her edge.
Name: Derek Milner aka "Burn"
Description: 6'1" tall, stocky build, Burn is a Caucasian ork. His brown hair is short and unkempt and his yellow-green eyes always seem tired. His nose was previously broken and never set properly and his skin is weathered and scarred. He is rarely seen without one of his clove cigarettes perched between his lips. During a stint as cheap labour in Tsimshian, his left arm was lost in a mining accident. Mitsuhama paid for a replacement limb (since they ran the site and couldn't afford bad PR, even if he was an ork), but it was a cheap (and obviously cybernetic) limb and is bulky and clmusy looking. Burn has had numerous modifications to it over the years, adding to it's unwieldly stature. He dresses in jeans and T-shirts, covered in a bullet-hole riddled trenchcoat that he refuses to replace.
As his moniker suggests, he is a demolitions specialist. In a bizarre case of irony, he prefers dynamite, the explosive that claimed his left arm. He is also adpet with pistols and small automatic weapons. Since he not a real fan of his replacement limb, his implantation is minimal outside of it.
Take your pick (or try both...I don't mind.
). Love your work, Squinky.

Shev
May 1 2007, 04:22 AM
I've got yet another character to add on to the pile, but I'm afraid he's rather, well, Bland.
Shev is an adept and a swordsman (Western style swords. Shev doesn't care much for ninjas, no matter how much he has in common with them). He is around 5'10", with a wiry build. Not overtly bulging, but obviously in excellent shape to anyone who knows anything about fitness.
He is usually wearing a kind of meshy hooded mask. Think glorified pantyhose, but not as tight around the facial features. He's in a Chameleon suit if he's working, typical wageslave clothes if not.
His face is pretty hard to describe. Curse his Blandness! His hair is mouse brown, and fairly short. It's not arranged in any particular style, but rather left to it's own devices. Shev just brushes it straight down, usually with his fingers, making it a bit tangled with a few hairs sticking up here and there. Nothing about his mouth, nose, ears, or any other facial features can truly be described as anything but average. Perhaps the most striking features are his eyes. A lightish blue, they can be piercing when Shev is studying something. Usually, he is cleanshaven.

Maybe in the duet one with Skate, eh? Four guns, two girls, less clothes... Not a bad idea, if I do say so myself.

...hmmmm.
She is fairly well "endowed", even if she is only 4' 10". Would show off the full back tattoo she has (I think I gave Squinky the detail on that on her description).

That would also get a couple of humans on the board. Don't think there have been any yet...

Here is a picture that I drew up for Nightlife a while back on commission, He gave me the go ahead to post here:
Nightlife's CharactersI had fun doing these two, but I have to admit I had a hard time not drawing in a katana or a cyber arm
Kyoto Kid
May 20 2007, 07:25 PM
...that is nice, very nice. I like the height differential. All too often, especially in comics, it appears all characters are all the same height. For example in X-Men Wolvie is supposed to be short (I believe about 5' 4) while Storm is at least 6 ft tall, yet they often look to be of the same stature.
This makes me feel good about the KK/Skate duo. I looked back at SD8685's original post but no height for Skate is given. I would imagine she is a fair bit taller than KK (can't be that many 4'10" gals running the shadows).
Squinky
May 20 2007, 08:11 PM
Thanks Kyoto,
I notice the height thing pretty often and sometimes am tempted to ignore heights for the sake of the image. I can imagine the issue gets compounded in the small frames they have to present things with in comics....
The height thing was important to Nightlife, understandably, and if I remember right I got out a ruler on those two and did some figuring to make it more accurate.
Anyways, here is another attempt at Waregears characters, I am thinking they will be presented two at a time, hoping they turn out better that way:

Lets try this one. This is my first post here so if you forgive my english...
Raven Elf (adept) female, age 20. Charismatic (kinesics and first impression), athletic, thief, face.
Background; former company kid who was left alone in the streets when her parents were killed. So young charismatic girl in the street of Seattle and she had to eat something... there was jobs like stripdance, escort, joygirl...
But now she is face/spec. op type runner...
Appearance: Long black hair (free or ponytail), littlebit native americanindian look, about 5' 9 and 122lbs (athletic dancer build), makeup maybe but NO tattoos, no visible scars (doesn't hide scars)
Wears usually urban jumpsuit when on run (but the clothing can be anything, showoff miniskirt, highheel shoes, boots, t-shirts etc. etc....) but when she negotiate deals she wears appropriate/convenient clothing.
Drives H-D Scorpion, uses Colt manhunter. Hmm ok she uses now also smg but semiautopistol is her mainweapon if we don't count her looks

Just for the record, Jack Flash's Flash family tartan is custom made with the primary colour being fluoro yellow. Jack eventually got his own trid show, going to weird and dangerous places with his corporate lawyer and camera ork and being filmed doing excessively dangerous, but fun, things...like dodging drone fire while skating down the side of the arcology, like visiting cannibal tribes, like mad dashes through bug city...the average lawyer lasts three episodes...fun stuff when a runner 'retires'.
