You beat me to it, you go searching for something so specific and someone has a spider waiting to backtrace searches on the specific thng.. But Silas doesn't know that, GM intervention says that Needle should bloody know better!

Keep in mind legwork via data search generally requires many more hits than trying to get information out of a contact due to having to sift through so much jumbled data online, and in most cases the highest level of information possible is not available through data search.

For instance, researching the Thaljun Cordex, 4 hits from a contact would get you "It's a collection of arcane tomes the last copy of which is rumored to be held by Horizon." The same information would take you 18 hits from a data search test. And no amount of successes would let you find the next step up of knowledge about it.

So, you'd need to roll at least one more test to find out that bit of fluff that you already know considering it was stolen by Acson from Horizon. But please do tell me if Needle got frustrated after the first 3 minutes of not finding anything concrete or if she continued in her searching. It matters for something else.............. <evil GM laughter echoes across the internets>>

I'm playint it that Needle would just stop searching after a few minutes due to bumping around in a moving vehicle and trying to keep an eye on Acson and all. Not the best environment to be doing a data search, you know?

And I know it takes far more hits than that to get something. She also needs to be careful because we just took someone out of Horizon's Splendor building by force, and now I'm gonna go searching on one of their specific documents? Yeah, that's not going to set off any alarms, is it?

What exactly are you wanting to know? Acson seems to be telling the truth that he saw an opportunity to get a jumpstart in his career without having to pay Horizon back for the schooling at MIT&T they provided and the Scholastic Lifestyle Fund to go with it for the last 2 years.

Just that, it seems rather suspicious to TW that someone smart and capable enough to swipe highly protected data from a corp known for their mind-altering (and therefore -probing) abilities and then engineer his own extraction could be so....well, dumb in their reasoning for doing it. to TW, it just doesn't compute.

Based off of that read, he's going to make an Intimidate check. Any bonus to the roll for Ascon's situation and the fact that the spurs are coming back out when TW opens his mouth again?

That's right, TW's playing Worse Cop in this interrogation. ork.gif

+2 for outnumbering him. But what exactly are you trying to intimidate him to do? He's pretty much already intimidated. From the judge intention tests, TundraWolf believes this guy is being completely sincere about having done it to get a head start with his career. Also, book smarts/being clever is wholely separate from having even the dream of knowing how to deal with the Shadows. The way he only gave you guys 15 minutes warning before wanting himself extracted is a sign of just how stupid he is when it comes to shadowrunning.

Acson has this Thaljun thingy in his head that's supposed to belong to Horizon, and we've got Acson. If I really want to get information on this thingy, I can always cut him open.
ChromeZephyr
Right, I know there's a difference, I've seen it firsthand quite a bit. Just trying to think along TW's mindset boss, those people die or are someone's property before they make it out of grade school, not to this twerp's age. He's still thinking along the lines of the hellholes of Russia, the Middle East, and China remember.

I'll forgo the Intimidate check, then, and put up an IC post along those lines.

You need to adjust your IC post some. Acson has never said anything at all about having a copy of the book in his head. You're making an assumption about it being in his head. He only said he has a copy of it. And if asked where it is he would say it is somewhere safe.

Not necessarily. He admitted to copying it, and he's got (at the very least) an internal commlink. Needle is making the assumption that his copy is on that. Your GM post indicating that he copied the Thaljun Cordex never mentioned if he stated where he had the copy or not.

Like I said. You are assuming it is in his head (good assumption). But your post is saying that he told you that is where he has a copy.which he has not done and would not do.
His first response to what you have posted is going to be going off on a tangent swearing up and down he never said any such thing and calling you a liar rather than actually responding to what you've asked. I just didn't feel like wasting time roleplaying that out.

Regardless. He's not going to let you getny kind of access to his head or the Cord ex. It's his only bargaining chip, all he's worked for the lasttwo years, and all he has in the world. If pushed he will threaten to delete it if you even lay a finger on him. He can tell you are all blood thirsty damages now anyway threatening him the way you have. You're just going to kill him if he gives it to you.

After re-reading my post, you are correct. I did post IC that he mentioned he had it on him, and that's my bad for reading too fast. I've edited my post to show that we only know he said he has a copy of it, and that we want a copy of it too.

Eclipse: Sadly, Acson has nothing else to offer. He is flat broke and his only hope been to sell off the Cordex for big money to one of the Foundations.

I'm not so much trying to pump him for money as favours, which is why I asked for "personal" compensation. Even if it's just he buys TW and Gardner surf'n'turf dinners for rest of their lives (though I'd prefer something involving his new position... >D), the idea is we get paid, as promised, for extracting him and then he does something to make up for being a jerk nosed dolphin.

No worries. I wasn't bothered by it and you're right to assume the book is in his head. I'm just wanting to keep a consistent IC thread when possible.
Btw, Needle does know that he can delete the file in an instant with a simple thought without ever turning on the wireless for his commlink, should he really have the book in there.

You'll need to spell that out to him. He doesn't have a clue what you're getting at and will just say he has no more money to give you. He spent the last of it buying his way to having fixers contact you guys for this job.
He's certainly willing to owe you a favor or be a lifelong contact for you. Assuming he survives all of this.

Fixers should do a tiny bit of checking before passing jobs along. Wonder how many shadowrun teams have busted into corporate housing enclaves to get out someone who's being held as a slave, only to discover that someone's surly eleven year old called a fixer and told them to send a shadowrun team.

Most fixers do check on things like that. But Tracy Deepwych, who contacted most of you, happens to be a piss poor fixer. She's more typically runs an unlicensed talismonger shop out of her van. But she got busted recently and had the van confiscated. She called in a few favors people owed her to get your contact info and now she's trying her hand at being a fixer. How is she doing so far?

Actually, i reread your IC post, and saying Splendor was enough to get the point across. Unfortunately, Moreau has been in the shadowrs for many years and is tired of the inter-corp rivalries. He cares not to play games and is very up front about what's going on.

Cool. I specifically left out a time so you guys could do whatever you want in the meantime. Pier 60 is back downtown. You guys going back via a similar route around the south of Lake Washington? Or going to mix it up by going round the north end? Or something else?

This is Bellevue. Everything is bright and cheerful on the surface. There aren't any broken street lamps. Well, just past the plasticrete walls marking the border with Redmond there is a broken street light. The gloomy spot of darkness calls out to just how different the Barrens are from Bellevue even more so than the razor wire topped walls encircling those apartment complexes closest to the border.

Might be able to find a street light that's out though. Even in well maintained areas, street lights tend to turn on and off somewhat randomly. Don't know why, just seen it happen time and time again...

Tacoma would be at least half an hour extra out of the way. So it'll be an hour and a half to drive to his place in Tacoma and then onto Pier 60 if you're going by less traveled/observed routes.

Needle could hack one to turn it off if she wants to. But currently there aren't any out near his place unless you count the one a hundred meters or so down the street over in the Barrens.

I'm just trying to be not quite so "obvious" .. which given our current mode of transportation is fraggin' difficult to say the least.

if it requires something to appease the Roleplay Gods then,

Silas suggests we rock up in clown suits

and if questioned, we are setting up for a kids party tomorrow as a
"surprise" ..

I think our general looks will be enough to warrant us NOT getting asked for business cards for little Timmy next door whos birthday is in two weeks smile.gif

cause really , something this blatantly obvious would not could NOT be anything subversive, people just would not believe that we are anything other than what we look like as opposed to being runners or espionage installers etc. smile.gif

**EDIT**

yes, we want to do the same in Tacoma, we have time so lets use it to rest some stun damage and get TW some gear

Hahaha...Probably a good idea. So the team rolls up to the amazing StufferShack that looks like it has no connection at all to the one you were just at. It is completely updated with the latest in design themes, even sporting the new logo that just got announced last month. Hmmm....I don't believe StufferShacks normally have ammo. It's more like a Walgreens than a full Walmart that has a hunting department. I'm willing to say this one has some ammo, but they would be required to sell only to people with the proper license for the weapon the ammo is used for. We still need a concrete approval from TW that we are going to his place so he can get things. If he definitely wants to do that, we can.

From here, though, I would say we should look into heading to the Pier for our meet with Moreau.

As for the Atlantean, I think it is probably a poor idea to go to their headquarters (or even a side office), period. We'll have to take the risk of communication over comms, and honestly, it's too late. But if you'd like you can limit it by trying to use the subterfuge that Moreau was unwilling to deal with...

You could certainly do that. And I'm sure Aztech who owns StufferShack won't mind you doing that at all. Nor will the local Knight Errant forces that you see driving around as you walk to your apartment. And I'm sure something like that wouldn't catch the notice of the main force of Horizon that's out looking for you guys, maybe just their Strike Team.....

So we leave a note:

"Dear Aztechnology. Due to ongoing conflicts with Horizon and Amazonian scum, we required more bullets to better kill our mutual enemies. Unfortunately, Horizon and Amazonia are jerks and we are cash poor, so we borrowed some ammunition (and one soy sake) from your store to better wage war. Happy hunting!

I think they just might overlook that robbery. wink.gif

Edit: I like the idea of the pier, less so the Atlantean main office. We certainly have time to grab TW's stuff™ on the way though..
