Check on the rounding though, my general rule of thumb is 'always round whichever way screws you most' since that's usually how it is. |
Hm. Now that I look at it it doesn't say either way about rounding. I think the default canon rule for rounding is that you always round down unless specified otherwise, but that might be unconscous carry-over from that other game; certainly I don't see it in the book anywhere as of yet. It does specify, however, that new skills always cost exactly 1 karma, whether they are active, knowledge or language (p. 245), so that first rank's cost is 1 regardless, and the second is 1.5 * 2 = 3, as there is no rounding for that one, so the calculation stands. Buying a third and other odd-numbered ranks in active skills seems to be up in the air though.

I have found that in Shadowrun you tend to round which ever way screws the player the most.

Round down when calculating karma costs for increasing skills. Round down when calculating drain. In all other circumstances round against the character (dice pools).

paul, WinterRat, your time problems sourced in the
Salvation thread:
QUOTE |
How about we get together tonight for some sushi, you pick the place and I'll meet you there."
The quick pause on the other end let Blaze know that tonight would have to be quick, Max obviously already had something planned.
"Yeah, that sounds fine. How about we eat on New York time, about 10:00."
He must have a meet to broker before that, he's always been a fan of eating at a reasonable hour. |
A bit after that phone call in that same thread is the phone call with
Squall at 16:47:12, from
Blaze's apartment. After that he takes a short astral excursion, by way of rejuvenation. Take those three as a starting point.
Next, from
the main thread:
QUOTE |
19:00:14 Saturday, January 6, 2063 - Home
... After a half hour of weaving through Saturday night traffic, Blaze finally arrived at his destination, Catapusan's Sushi Bar. Parking his Bike in a garage a block away, Blaze slowly began his walk to meet with Max. I should beat him there, Max has always been punctual, but I'll have to be quick to make sure that he's on time to his meet. ... Arriving at the table he noted he was the first there, as he expected, before sitting down a moment to walk around the restaurant, stopping at the restroom, once again checking the exits, despite the number of times he'd been there in the past. ... It wasn't until 10:15 that Max actually showed up. |
Erebus arrives at
Caveman Kate's at 22:05:04.
Max is punctual, he will be there at least ten minutes before.
Revised timeline:
- The meal is set for 8:30 (2030) instead of 10:00.
- Blaze leaves his place at 19:00 as noted, and parks his bike at his destination about half an hour later (1940).
- He then walks the block or so slowly, getting him to the door at 1950, inside at 2000, finally seated at around ten after.
This gets him there only a little more than a quarter hour early: perfect, since he knows
Max is punctual (usually on the early side of punctual) and probably has a meet immediately afterwards.
The dinner needs to be completed before nine-thirty.
Unless it's contradicted by canon (anyone?), as of now
Catapusan's Sushi Bar is less than a five minute drive away from
Caveman Kate's That okay with everyone?

It looks like ronin probably has things under control at the clinic (we'll do that outside the timeline of the other two); and that
is the last small point I have planned for the immediate future.
Virgil doesn't hear from

Dragon's about to hear from

ronin: you won't be able to get hold of
Vinnie today. There's something of an original meet set up for tonight, but you won't find him or what you're seeking. That's ooc knowledge soon to become ic knowledge as you three write it up.
Beyond that, you're clear until mid-afternoon next day. Have a good supper. I promise there's no sniper waiting for you in the wings

It never occured to me that you wouldn't need an air filter for a liquid cooling system, though I actually have seen systems with both fans and liquid cooling the main reason for the fans was it was cheap. Slip- to be honest, I personally am not that sure. Anyone else know? Sedna's our main force behind the blizzard, but I'd guess some time in the afternoon traffic starts getting affecting, judging by what Cedric says, and it probably hits a white out, or close to it by nightfall. But I could be WAY off on this, so someone feel free to correct me if that's the case.

Well I'm not an expert, but according to the calendar it's not until late at night that the weather turns to heavy snow. The rain by itself might be a problem, I imagine Seattle city streets are never dry long enough to build up that coat of oil that makes light to moderate rain dngerous for driving, so I imagine it's not until the snow arrives the night of the 8th that things start to get messed up.

Anyway, from what I recall with my limited California beach bum knowlege of snow, there are only two problems with driving in it:
1) It's slippery. This is what tire chains are for, but honestly you don't *really* need them unless you are planning on driving fast or up and down hills. Seattle isn't very hills, is it? Besides which, I'd be surprised if people living in Seattle didn't have tire chains standard with their cars.
2) It gets deep. I think by now we're not worried about the snow being too deep to drive in, as people seem to have been able to get
to the Respite just fine.
Conclusion: don't gun it, and watch out for the idiots who do ('cause there's *always* idiots who do; I swear they breed in this kind of weather or something), and you ought to be fine.

Eyes, the snow in Seattle does not get very deep at all. Occasionally maybe six inches or so but the people in Seattle don't react well to snow, almost never are chains actually used, in 15 years I've used chains twice.
Please remember that Seattle continually makes the top 10 for worst traffic conditions in North America.
Seattle is somewhat hilly, not San Francisco hilly, but hilly enough in the Downtown area. The area between I-5 and the water resemble the Bay Area in the Downtown area down to about 4th Street where it becomes level. Redmond in to the outskirts of Issaquah are foothills of the Cascades and tend to be lots of hills that flatten out. Tacoma, Federal Way, Fort Lewis area are not very hilly at all, large numbers of pine trees, lots of small streams and rivers. The areas north of Kirkland I'm not too familiar with, lots of trees and wooded foresty stuff.
The problem isn't with people gunning it, its the fact that Seattle large number of people pushing through poorly maintained roads which are too narrow for the amount of traffic. Even a minor fender bender in the Renton S-curves can back up traffic for miles and the floating bridge over Lake Washington on I-90 is stop and go for three or four hours surrounding rush hour. Hwy 520 over the Lake is faster but its on the north side of the Lake.

WinterRat1
May 25 2005, 06:27 PM
Minimum would be 1 box per hour, if you got at least 1 success on a body or willpower roll you'd get it all. For simplicity's sake, assume if you sleep for 8 hours you'll get rid of all your STUN damage.
You still need to deal with the physical overflow however.

No problem Eyes, I always thought we had harsh winters on the east side of the Cascades, I went to law school at Gonzaga in Spokane and the winters were nasty. Then I started going to Seattle regularly to spend weekends with my wife's family and the people on the roadway drive me nuts.
Of course I then visited Minnesota in November and discovered what winter really was. I've since then stopped complaining about winter, although I continue to reserve the right to complain about Seattle drivers. I never believed that the sidewalk was an appropriate passing lane until I drove down 4th street in down town Seattle at 4:30 p.m.

And the secondary problem is that people in the area just aren't used to it. People in snowbelt areas shrug at a couple of inches. People all along the N.American Pacific coast (from Vancouver south) panic. Add to that a general focus on automatic over standard transmissions, and the interesting (lack of) modern roads, and
There's several places with laws against chains because of what they do to the roads. I don't know if Seattle is one of them. Myself, I've driven in some major snow conditions, but so far I've never needed chains. Only one of my friends in a snowbelt area ever has ... but she also has a very steep hill for an extended driveway.
Between Cedric's comments and the rediscovery of the makeshift calendar, did the underlying question get more or less addressed?
