Scrap - We may not have the time to send people in ahead. By the time our discussion ends it will be around 15:30:00 and we have to get across Bellevue and into downtown to get there on time.
Now you and I know it could likely be a set up, but Max is taking the Wong's at face value. He screwed up by deceiving them and being mistrustful the first time around he isn't going to try that again. Besides the Renraku Mall is a very public place, trying to take someone out would bring a load of Renraku Samurai down on them...of course that is unless it is a Renraku high mucky-muck that is behind all of this.
Didn't see grendel's post. I guess you will have to wait outside.

Even if we send a couple of them in 5 minutes ahead of Max, they may be able to spot something and get a signal to you time.
We'll have to assume Mr. Wong chose the location because he knew John wouldn't be able to attend.

The Arcology still hosts two full companies of Red Samurai guards along with Ren Raku's standard security for the building, and the UCAS Marines still man barricades along Ren Raku Way. Security at the mall and food court is tight, with weapons and cyberware scanners, as well as astral scans. The Arcology is a AAA area. |
Jebus, that's a lot of firepower.

Lets wait for WinterRat1's ruling on that before we move on. I thought the Wong's did request that we both be there, though I don't mind going it alone. A couple of Chaotic World spells and well placed stun balls in a highly trafficed area such as the Renraku Mall could create quite a diversion if things go badly, which they inevitably will. I mean I will likely have to park in a parking garage and we have all seen how that usually turns out around here.
Grendel - UCAS Marines, I thought they were only around after Renraku Shutdown? Am I wrong or are we after the Shutdown in our timeline?
Slip
grendel
Oct 25 2005, 08:13 PM
We are after the Shutdown, the Arcology has been open for business for going on two years. Keep in mind that it's a building who's base is a kilometer square. Given that the average definition for a city block is 100 square meters, the Arcology is ten times that size. Two companies of additional security personnel isn't that much.

Slip/Scrap- Either or both of you can write up to leaving the Respite. However, I need you and/or Scrap to post in the OOC thread if John will be attempting to join Max in the Arcology. As Grendel pointed out, the Arcology is absolutely huge, so it’s not impossible for John to slip in and even remain unnoticed, as long as he puts some effort in and is discreet.
Don’t forget, Tenmou made it into the Arcology earlier in the week, and he’s a pretty nasty character too. So it’s not impossible, but again, whether or not you want to take the chance is entirely up to you two.
Also let me know if the gangers are going with you and what they'll be doing. I will post your arrival at the Arcology, as well as any relevant discussion on the behalf of the gangers if it becomes necessary.

WR1-
Granted, I only looked in the IC thread, but from what I can see Tenmou just drove up to the curb.
I'm sure there would be ways around the security, since the place is so big, but with the time remaining to them it would have to be done on the fly. I don't think John would be willing to risk getting apprehended. Pretty hard to find his niece while stuffed inside a cell. He'll go with Max, but wait outside. If the Wongs require him to be present, we can figure it out from there.
I'll make a post IC of John's dialog with the gangers. After that plays out, I'll let Slip write-up the trip to the Arcology.

Grendel - Thanks for clearing that up for me, wasn't sure about the timeline.
Scrap - It is really up to you if you want to come along or not. If you do come along I would suggest we don't enter together. We need any information the Wong's may have and it wouldn't do to have us both detained trying to smuggle you in.
But as usual Max will defer to your judgement on all things Shadowrun like, since he is woefully inept at the subject.

Oh, quick question: as everyone here no doubt has some sort of pocket secretary at this point, how does that get translated over to SR4? Are these simply low-rated Commlinks, or are they being bought as other Matrix stuff is under SR3 costs?
(Edit): Also what about armored clothing? Can we translate some of the stuff from CC, or are we limited to SR4 stuff there?
grendel
Oct 26 2005, 04:24 PM
Pocket secretaries still work as advertised, but gradually you'll see new and better products (commlinks) being brought out on the open market. Right now they're only the toys of Corporate VPs and such, but in a couple of months the prices will have come down to where the average wageslave might be able to own a lower end model.
Stick with the armor as listed in the SR4 main book. When Arsenal comes out it'll probably have additional armored clothing in it.

Q -- how does SR4 Confusion work? As of now, it's active. |
SR4, p. 287:
Confusion
Type: M. Action: Complex. Range: LOS. Duration: Sustained
The confusion power allows a critter to befuddle a victim, so that the target is unable to make decisions, loses his sense of direction, remember what he was doing, and so on. The critter makes a Magic + Willpower Opposed Test versus the target's Willpower. The net hits scored by the critter serve as a dice pool modifier to any action the character takes.
Remember that spirits have to be on the same plane of the target in order to use their powers.
Vedic's willpower (4): 5, 4, 3, 3 (1 hit)

Sorry, grendel, my total SR4 know-not is really showing, which is actually the major reason for this current slowness of posting (otherwise mostly caught up in all things except webbing): I know storyline, I know environment to be able to react to whatever
Vedic does, I know what every NPC is doing in the abstract, I have their stats, but I am still very much learning out game mechanics, and in this case specifically how initiative and actions work.
The current question is regarding what would SR3 be a Force 6 Hearth spirit (same plane, yes: if not same elevation
). Does MG and WL still equal Force? How do its initiative / RE change? The other powers (Accident, Alienation, Concealment, Confusion, Guard, Search) -- same pattern of change as what you've already written? (Trying to minimise your work needed in answering.)

Keep in mind that a Force 6 spirit is far and away more powerful in SR4 than it was in SR3 in many ways. The Reaction attribute alone tells you it rolls 12 dice to defend itself against ranged attacks even without full defense, and 18 dice against melee. This is of course assuming you can find enough armor penetration to deal with the weapon immunity, or on the flip side note that Willpower and Cha are on average lower. Air spirits are damn near invincible under the new ruleset. Basically in terms of raw power a F6 spirit under these rules is something like a force 8-9 spirit under SR3.
This balances by noting that spirits are tough to summon, and have pretty hellish Drain as well.
