Gaharr matey! Yesterday came fast and furious! You, Scrap, and Eyes were all posting like mad, and I just didn't have time to get to everyone's responses. They're forthcoming this afternoon.

No problem, sometimes posts get lost when we have a good day of posting. I look forward to the post.

Hm, you know, the more I read what I've got there the more I think we need a name for the "extremist side" that
Carla's a part of. Brainwave: how's this sound:
[ Spoiler ]
Ever since the early days of the
People's University many of the volunteers were rich yuppie kids, doing the whole rebelling from their parents thing and running off to join what they saw as the ultimate crusade against racist bigotry. This small band of blockheaded idealistic rich kids formed the
Union of Proactive Students.
In the beginning this was little more than a club, consisting of a small group of rich runaways chasing an idealistic dream. Most of the University paid them little attention, focusing more on the necessities of survival and providing necessary services to the Berkeley sprawl. But some of those kids began to grow into equally idealistic adults, and a couple of them realised that they were in a unique position to go further than just surviving day to day fighting an extended guerilla war with the Japanese invaders.
So they started branching out, using the wealth and influence of their rich parents to make useful contacts outside of the local area. After awhile The
Union started to become the public face of the
University itself. They were the ones that got both Calfree and UCAS to make the
People's University officially accredited as a college, and are the ones that ensure that many degree programs remain accredited in the absense of any sort of official school board. In fact, the offices of "Chancellor" and "Deans" of the school are actually titles held by the leadership of the
Union, making the
People's University a college truly run by the students. The
Union is also the main official recruitment source for the
University, attracting students from in-state as well as the NAN and UCAS/CAS and even abroad (though few from Asia and none at all from Japan.)
Through all of this the
Union--now usually just called the Student Union--hasn't lost its idealistic roots, and has in a way been blinded by them. Many of the students recruited by the university in recent years hardly even think of the guerilla war as actually being violent, and some are quite surprised when they regularly find themselves being shot at. It's a bit of a rude awakening the first time a "supply run" goes bad and you find yourself dodging hails of bullets and a particularly mean Fire Elemental who was guarding the warehouse you just broke into--just ask
Eyes.
Sound interesting?

Eyes- I like the idea a lot, and as you can see, I obviously took quite a few elements from it. However, I’m sure you can also see that Carla might be quite different than you envisioned her.
I will be using your idea, if not quite verbatim, drawing heavily upon it. Still, I can’t have you knowing
everything, now can I? So consider everything in your spoiler to be the basics of what Eyes knows and remembers about the University, although as Carla has just demonstrated in the IC post, the times, they have been a changin’.
Slip- There you go, you’re up.
Scrap- Yours is coming next.
Sedna-
[ Spoiler ]
You are correct about the two meets. As Slip and Scrap pointed out, I might not have been as aware of the Loveland Quinn’s one because it was not me who scheduled it. You are coordinating the 22:00:00 meet with Scrapheap, so feel free to take yourself there directly or wait a bit, since he still has some stuff to do before he gets there, but see below first. Once we get to the point where Scrapheap’s ready to go to Loveland Quinn’s, I’ll let you take over from there, since you’ll be running the NPC discussed in our email. I’ll pick him up after that meet’s over with.
If you want to take yourself to Tuesday afternoon, the ‘early decker’ Tin Star commissioned will have the information update on Alex Wong for Alleycat by then. You can receive a live action update if you stop there and talk to the decker, or you can get it in ‘flashback’ format if you jump to 22:00:00 on Tuesday, your choice. Hope that all made sense, let me know if you have any questions.

WR1 - I have to admit that was a beautifully orchestrated screwjob.
WinterRat1
Oct 31 2005, 05:21 PM
Screwjob? What screwjob? It's just a gigantic bunch of absolutely random coincidences that just so happen to tie into one overarching storyline. The fact that there are unseen ties that apparently bind all of you has absolutely nothing to do with any deliberate or planned actions on my part.
And I have to ask, what was your reaction upon reading that post?
Slipshade
Oct 31 2005, 05:39 PM
Actually I was laughing so hard I had to close the door to my office.
I love doing things like that to my players so I really appreciate when it happens in a game to me.
Scrap and I had just talked about how we thought the clinic and the camp in CalFree were possibly linked, and I thought that you may tie Hideo into it somewhere, but that was great.
I am taking a bit of time before I post to properly state Max's reaction and how I want to handle the situation.
I had a lot of fun reading it though.

Scrap: 1 + 1 quality = 2
Slip: 1 + 1 quality = 2
Eyes: Grendel has still been handing out your karma, and since he's easily the most consistent of all us GMs at handing out karma, I presume he is keeping track of your storyline and will hand out karma to you accordingly.

Sorry for my lack of participation since Friday. I am currently finishing my application for the NSF predoctoral fellowship awards and am spending every waking moment revising my proposal. Leaving the gangers behind was fine. They're major NPCs now (even if they weren't meant to be originally; funny how things work out like that!) but the story still revolves around you two.
Thanks for asking though!

And since the University is/is becoming such a major part of Eyes’s past, would you please collect what we’ve discussed in the OOC thread so far, add anything you feel is necessary to further flesh it out, and incorporate it into your backstory and/or 20 Questions as you deem appropriate, then send it to me so I can add it to your file? (Psst...Morgannah, what color suit should she have been wearing if I wanted to convince Eyes that she's good?)
And ya know, the scary thing about the OOC threads sometimes is you never know just which comments to take seriously and which ones not to...
Morgannah
Nov 2 2005, 09:14 PM
Ahh, if my ravings have contained any grain of truth within them I offer my humblest and most serious apologies. In my experience, however, the good guys NEVER wear white and that goes double for suits. Star Wars isn't just a highly-commercialized popular culture, you know....
I would have put

No, my eyes were green to begin with .. thank you for noticing.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Ahem, I mean, he’ll just have to find out the hard…I mean, he’ll learn. Yeah, that’s it. He’ll learn.
Actually, I put her in a white suit because I was picturing Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. Crap, maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that…
And why Morgannah, your eyes are indeed a lovely shade of green! (Although I don’t know why they would be, because Cosmo is HOT!)

Call it "professional jealousy," then, maybe? You can also ask any reasonably attractive woman; we may appear to get along with one another but beneath the surface there's at least as much sizing-up and posturing as there is in the men's locker room. Women, especially pretty ones, can be positively vicious when no one's looking.
*looks around suspiciously*

No, any man that has had any experience with women knows that Morgannah.
And I know all women know it...isn't it something that is taught in those special classes that women go to when they all leave at once to "go to the bathroom"?
WinterRat1
Nov 2 2005, 09:42 PM
Well now that’s an interesting conversation for the OOC thread. We all know women are viciously competitive. What I want to know is, how do women size one another up? Do you ladies have like a checklist you run through for comparison purposes or something? Clothes, body, features, status, spouse/boyfriend/significant other, job, money, etc? How does it work?
Note to self: Get white suit (uh, does it work for guys too?)
Morgannah
Nov 2 2005, 09:44 PM
Shh!
*clears her throat*
It's absolutely silly to think that women attend classes in the washroom. I mean, it's not like we have hidden doorways to our top-secret installations accessible from any restaurant in any major city. Right? *smiles a bit forcefully* Right?!

Three words for you: Michael Clarke Duncan.
I'm sure there are better examples but that's the one that pops immediately to my mind. Also Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor in Smallville .. that one scene where he's in the Whitehouse. Tasty.
And you should know better than to assign any logical function to the manner in which women operate, Winterrat. Nothing is ever that simple with us.
A girl can have everything she's ever wanted and still be irrationally jealous of someone else. I guess that's why people keep saying we're, well, irrational.
