Virgil would know that in most cases, Mind Probe is not a pleasant experience for the subject, and sometimes it's actively painful. There are some exceptions, depending on tradition, and especially when reading only surface thoughts. Regardless, her not resisting would help.

Fyi -- not a real smartgun system (obviously!), but I figured that, given the whole street-sam popular look, someone has got to be making these. For the rest of the look, think drow.
That should take it close enough to the meet that I won't be holding you up, paul. Out of time -- need anything else, ask -- I'll get it done tomorrow.

[ Spoiler ]
Rolls needed are really just Makeover and Disguise, rest was melanin control:
Makeover: 10, 7, 4, 4 ; drain 9, 3, 3, 5, 2, 2, 1 (+ some extra dice I didn't use) ... easy soak.
Disguise: 3, 1. Karma reroll: 9, 3
("desired image" complementary): 16, 11, 5, 4

Feb 17 2005, 04:27 AM
Roll for the mindprobe success test:
Force 3: 6 socery dice + 2 totem modifier + 3 spell pool
16, 11, 07, 09, 08, 08, 04, 03, 03, 02, 01
It's a lot of dice but I figure Virgil will need a bunch of success to overcome her loss of conscious memory. Would you like me to roll drain resistance now, or after the spell's completion?
P.S. I figure this will be an exchange of a few posts as we travel though her mind together. I've never played out a mindprobe under these circumstances so this should be quite intriguing.
Sedna
Feb 17 2005, 12:52 PM
Yes -- please roll the drain now as well. I rather doubt you'll pass out, but it will be useful to know where we're headed. I'll also ask you to do at least one more post before I step in, as the call is answered and you begin to filtre your way into her mind -- initial experiences, predictably, will centre in and around the clinic, from the newest to the oldest (arrival).

Mindprobe drain resistance:
Base drain code 2S: 6 willpower + 3 remaining spell pool
09 05 04 03 03 03 02 02 01
Virgil should learn that spell at a higher force in the future
Looks like the drain will be staged all the way down, barring any serious modifiers that I do not know about.
Sedna
Feb 17 2005, 01:08 PM
Thanks, bandit. There's also a spellcasting rough proviso that maximum successes generally can't exceed spell force ... I'll be using that one, but it shouldn't limit you at all for this one. No rush on that second post btw -- my five minutes are up, and I can't be back on-line for many hours yet.
banditf50
Feb 17 2005, 07:44 PM
That is a very good proviso, in fact I hope that we can just state it as a rule. Yet another reason why
Virgil has plenty of spell learning to do in the future . . . .whenever the time for that should arise

Is that priviso to be made a general rule? because there are a few spells it conflicts with.
Eg:
Deflect and Combat Sense
Which work on an every whole 2 suxx sorcery test for 1 dice benefit upto the spell`s force in dice benefit and they pack a heafty drain.
Just checking because either of those spells at say Force 4 drop from being a potential 4 dice benefit to a max 2 dice benefit at Serious drain and if its at Force three the drop is from poss 3 dice to max 1 dice again at Serious drain.

I will wait for Sedna an opinion on this, and it may involve an all-GM discussion, but I am inclined to stick follow a stict Force = max # of success ruling. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to work towards higher force spells.
However one opinon doesn't set the standard in LiTS (a very good thing!) We'll see what works out and you'll be the first PC no know
P.S. Now
Knight is well on his way to getting the thick of things.

Tin Star is established as a habitual latecomer and I have had contact with Digital Heroin this year (if not this month), so I'm very reluctant to touch another player's PC until and unless
(1) the in-story situation absolutely demands it; and
(2) the other player clears it or obviously completely abandons the story.
Neither is the case here yet.
I'll write Dice in at 1140, if that's okay.
WinterRat1
Feb 21 2005, 01:45 PM
OK then, write Dice in at 1140, Tin Star will probably show up late again, just to warn you.
. but yes, that's understandable, however he did give me permission to play his character, so I will be doing that just fyi. Sound good to you and Paul? No need to respond; unless you say something I'll assume it's fine and go with it.

Sedna - Andie will astrally perceive around the store front for any possible sources for the magic storm that took down the wards.
Astral Perception test: 2, 6+1, 2, 3, 6+2, 5, 6+4
Aura Reading test: 5, 5, 3, 2, 5
Andie will then generate a Force 1 astral ward around the store. This takes one hour to do.

The delay on that was trying to get them so I could read the embedded words. One square = one metre on each side?
If you have webspace, upload the floorplan files and you or I can link them in-thread. But I'd suggest converting them to jpegs first -- as bitmaps, their sheer size crashed Geocities maximum bandwidth restriction several times.

Received them, opened them, much more readable this time (thank you!).
This should actually work out well:
Andie has probably close to the same amount of architect-specific knowledge you do, and
Solomon close to what I have ... neither of us being architects
So we can work it out in-thread within our respective knowledge.
What I'd like to do is link in those diagrams to the thread, but although I like them *much* better for detail, the bitmaps were huge! Thus for e-mails I'm appreciating you sending both types.
For webspace, do you have a personal webpage? or option to have a personal webpage with your Internet provider?
SentineloftheMountain
Feb 23 2005, 09:21 PM
Sedna: I just created a webpage at the following web link.
http://www.geocities.com/chubbell_2003/homepage.htmlNot sure how much space is available but I should be able to put the floor plan images there.
What do ya think??
Eyeless Blond
Feb 24 2005, 01:41 AM
Geocities generally has problems with outside linking of images, so it might not work too well.
Sedna
Feb 24 2005, 03:29 AM
Geocities space is adequate (15 megs; your images will take up ~2.5 of that in bitmap form), and they will allow you to upload images, just not access them directly from a different address. Just as well really: it's bandwidth that's the issue. Each time someone accesses an image, it pulls from the image host's bandwidth. (I think they might also have reduced each user's allowance, maybe around the same time as they revised the watermark.)
Once you upload your images, you can link them into your post using the url of the image, and people can access them by clicking on the link. Just be prepared for the site to be regularly not accessible due to exceeding bandwidth allotment ("check back in an hour").
Eyeless Blond
Feb 24 2005, 03:04 PM
You might consider converting to a .GIF if the colors are sharp, or a .JPG or PNG if there are lots of gradients. Either way should net you a ~50% or more saving in space.
SentineloftheMountain
Feb 25 2005, 10:10 PM

Feb 27 2005, 08:43 PM
Basic line diagrams without electrical or other utility markers (this isn't Autocad), we'll be discussing types of doors/door clearance
etc. required later, main floor plus partly filled-in mezzanine, main staircase duplicating the original metal staircase heading to what was once an offices area, with the (half filled-in) truck bays outside: so nothing really involving gradients as such, and no colours at all. Currently they're jpgs, but the sheer amount of regular text referencing in
tracking individual storylines means that bandwidth remains an issue. Did you have any of the draughts uploaded yet, Sentinel?
[cough -- suddenly occurred to me that if you were to post them on Shadowland, you might get one
heck of a lot of useful feedback -- but you also might have some very strong reasons not to do so]
On a side but related note, face-to-face we were playing with the concept of how warehouse floor magic might alter standard designs of warehouses:
ie. aisle clearances (for forklifts), battery rooms
etc. After all, not every mage is cut out for the high corp, or shadowrun, or entrepreneurial lifestyle: some (just like many of us) just want a basic, well-paid 9-5 job without complications and without involving too much in-job creativity (or sometimes even thinking), and to go home afterwards and relax with a beer in front of the trid. From the business' pov, no matter how well the mage is paid for the luck of the genetic draw (and let's assume that, in nuyen, it does stay in the high five digits, maybe brushing six) ... it's still going to be less than the cost of equipment maintenance and burnout, even without considering greater efficiency of storage and inventory movement.

You don't have a specific KN for it, bandit, but you do have enough in your background that I'll give you this off the various Barrens-specific KNs: shuk foo, or "uncle", in this context refers to the tong leader (not the top gang position) within a gang.
Also, when you decided to pursue the healing, I had you cast your Heal spell, maximum Force, +2 TN (sustained spell); and it's a high TN to begin with (she's below Essence 2); indirectly against the level of damage involved with implanting that kind of cyber. But you feel like there's been some help involved: you've only taken Light drain from the entire thing (although it feels rather worse, to begin with).
