Sorry Zo, my (Seths) situational awareness is not very good, and I didn't realise you were with us.

So do you want to join us in the green mist and get movement*4/concealment 4 , or make your own way. If you want to join us, I fill go edit my IC posts so you are in. By the way is there anyone else with the professor / Zo /Oswald and me?

By the way I do answer to "Jade pussy cat", or just "Jade". Just don't call me "here pussy pussy pussy" and click your tongue or bad things might happen smile.gif
pbangarth
Yes, Ferret is in the same building. He is busy in the Matrix. Zo is staying with him to keep him safe while Jade, Oswald and Professor go ahead. They can still be sped with the spirit power which can be maintained out of sight once it has been initiated. That way they can catch up quickly.

Thanks for the Intuition boost to 9. Holy Cow! the world seems so understandable now!
Seth
OK I only summoned a rank 4, if Red-ROM is happy I will change that to a rank 5. I only need to roll the extra die for its summoning: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3006117/

This reduces my services to 3 (1 remaining) but doesn't change the drain
pbangarth
Hmmm... I forgot that magic can take you Attributes up to the augmented maximum, so Professor can make use of the whole 7 hits on that Increase INT spell. His INT is 11!

For the next little bit, here is Professor's AGI and REA:

AGI 11 dice ==> ...

Invisible Castle doesn't want to communicate right now, so I'll go with the 4:1 rule and give him 2 hits for each. In fact, Red-ROM, rather than having me roll dice every other post, why don't we have him at those levels for AGI and REA until something comes up?

So: AGI 5, REA 5, INT 11, Initiative 16.
Saint Sithney
By the way, I moved the clock forward ten minutes to kill the time between when Jade killed the Barghest and when she ran the mile and a half to the gas station.

I figured it would give us the time to move the blimp and hit the matrix, Jovan time to astrally scout and contact Jonathan if he's around, and give Ferret the time to either finish out the matrix run or get to the point where he's got to probe the target.

We can fill all this in with backdated posts.
Notsoevildm
Ferret's commlink:
Response 4(2), Signal 3, Firewall 6, System 4
Programs running: Stealth, Analyze, Exploit, Armor, Biofeedback filter, Track

Unload Track and load up Command and Browse again.

Cancel any security level alerts.

Check logs for cause of alerts:
Computer 4 + Browse 3 + Hotsim 2 = 9d6.hits(5)=3

Check out any working security cameras and feed the footage to the team:
Computer 4 + Command 3 + Hotsim 2 = 9d6.hits(5)=2
Sephiroth
How much astral scouting do you guys want me to do in the intermittent time before the current 10:55? I like Sithney's reasoning, and it might be both weird and unsafe if we were all exploring e.g. the blown up tower or the mall or whatever and we came across something Toxic (not toxic, although the chemicals aren't going to be anything to sneeze at either. It would also make little tactical sense IC, and the last time we went in somewhere without much of a plan or info on the place, we were temporarily fooled by a ruse by the Vipers, had a vehicle bugged, were almost attacked by a military helicopter, were actually attacked by a giant snake spirit, and attracted Lone Star with the ruckus from our very awesome counterattack of raining death.

EDIT: Red-ROM, I have no problem at all with counting scouting through the mall as a service for Jovan's spirit. However, since Jovan took a break in the astral scouting of the mall at 10:47, will you count the scouting of the mall before and after the break to be one service, or two? frown.gif Also, will this service extend only to astrally scouting out the mall, and require a new service for looking through the East and West Towers?
Seth
@Sephiroth
Scouting is usually good and helps make a plan. The rest of you know whats going on better then me

Just a reminder:

KILL COUNT: 7

No paranoia at all IC would be just.... stupid.

It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.
Seth
Even if you are paranoid, they might still be out to get you

@Red-ROM
Well I have a couple of names now. 'Big Daddy' & 'Viper 12'

Given we are communicating by Matrix, can I dial out and ask some contacts?

If there is I will ask some questions of:
  • John Star Loyalty 3 Connections 3, Lone star detective (homicide): 3 successes
  • Yoshida Kunachi (a random one of my Yakuza contacts from Made Man so Connections 8 ): 6 successes

I'll post any answers

This took a tiny bit of spell casting:

Red-ROM
@ Sephiroth: I'll go with 1 service , scouting. What is your plan for looking at Amber's comlink? you can't veiw it astrally.

@ Seth: no matrix service at the moment unless you have a sat link.

@ all: It's a bit of a hike to the mall, and even further to the tower. Is Oswald being hastened by the spirit? its like, a 40 minute walk to the mall, so we can flash foreward whenever. I guess I'm still dealing with Matrix/Astral stuff
Red-ROM
I dusted off the old death clock, we are all on point!

I also subtracted 1 edge used by Jovan ad 1 by Ferret correct?

I mentioned it in the relevant post when talking to the spirit, but I was thinking of having the elemental materialize and have it go through the commlink instead. Even without AR capability, the spirit can still operate the manual controls on the commlink, correct?

That looks right for Jovan.
Seth
OK it looks like there is no matrix connection, so I guess that we are not able to talk electronically to each other...is that correct?

That means I tried and failed to talk to my contacts.

Correct. Ferret is all out of edge for now.

Ferret's commlink:

Checking the security cameras for current ghoul locations and numbers:
Computer 4 + Command 3 + Hotsim 2 = 9d6.hits(5)=1 - bleh!

Jiggling the security protocols to a) let me back in unmolested, b) forward any new alerts to the garage node:
Computer 4 + Exploit/Edit 3 (Switching Browse out for Edit if necessary) + Hotsim 2 = a) Security accout for Ferret b) Forward alerts to garage node (9d6.hits(5)=1, 9d6.hits(5)=7) - 7 successes on 9 dice!!!

I.E. are they part of the 162's, an all ghoul gang in redmond referenced in the most recent Seattle Sourcebook.

nope, no gang colors.
Seth
When should we post arriving at the tower? Are you going to do it Red-ROM?

Red-ROM
hey gang, I've been a little derailed by the Spirit operating the commlink situation. When spirits manifest, do they have normal senses? as in not percieving astrally? A spirit with a 7 intelligence, what skills does it have? and what languages? I guess that's left up to me?

@ Notso: the reusable exploit is an extended test with Software + Exploit (8, 1 initiative pass) but I imagine you'd get it in less than a minute or so. You are also good on forewarding the alerts.

@ Seth: the situation with Jovan is making timing this pretty tricky. I've had time issues in the past. I guess I'll just post your arrival and sort it from there.

@ Saint: thanks, I'll update your edge use as well

IIRC spirits on the physical plane use normal perception rolls so I guess it stands to figure. Also consider that Buttercup probably knows how to use a commlink.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been responding to posts lately (and I apologize for holding things up in Shadow's Dawn, Seth and pbangarth). I've been working on three different final exam projects that all happen to be due within the next three days, so I've been more than a little distracted. I will try to respond soon.

When a spirit materializes, it becomes Dual Natured; as such, they do gain physical perceptive abilities, but they interpret the surroundings as a weird composite of astral impressions and physical senses (as per Dual Natured description SR4A). A spirit with a 7 in mental attributes will obviously get all the skills regular spirits of its type get; with a force that high, and particularly since the core rulebook encourages GM's to treat spirits like actual NPC's, I think it'd be quite appropriate to give it other skills to distinguish it from other spirits. Same goes for language, although the spirit will at least know English, Or'zet, and Sperethiel because of the spirit-summoner link. Those things would be to your discretion, methinks.

No Problem. I've been helping number 1 son with a load of exam revision too. Fun Fun Fun. Glad thats all behind me!

I've instructed the spirit to go and and 'search' (it will vanish upon the end of the service). I don't know if any die need to be rolled as I am Away From Books at the moment.

Few questions for you Red-ROM:
  • Are watcher spirits useless in this game...i.e. stats and skills of 1...which means they have a 1:3 chance of critical glitching every time they make a perception / assensing roll?
  • Are there any dead bodies around?
  • Can I see any snipers?
  • Can I detect any lingering smells from who did this?

Visual Perception rolls: 5, 5, 4, 3, 7
Audio Perception rolls: 4, 6, 8, 2, 5
Smell rolls: 5, 4, 6, 4, 4

I'd treat them like they had the Uneducated neg qual (like Jade does) where they can't default on any technical skills (seriously, Jade should lose two points of edge and buy that off. Seth is not playing a character who can't use a commlink, and he shouldn't try.)

I'd be interested in joining the reserves list...although I haven't read any of the IC thread I'm sure I've seen comments about that not being necessary?!?

I have several ideas I could work up depending on what character would be most useful to the group and likely to be introduced without too much GM hand waiving. Some still need statting and some I've used elsewhere on DS:

Ember is a druidic mage
Escapade is an infiltrator/face combination
Tempest is a melee combatant/gunslinger type
Requiem is a gunslinger (may not be suitable as he's a milspec armoured merc...?!?)

Lemme know if any of these might suit?

Thanks

Ferret's commlink:
Response 4(2), Signal 3, Firewall 6, System 4
Programs running: Stealth, Analyze, Exploit, Armor, Biofeedback filter, Command, Browse

Currently monitoring the data stream from the commlink linked to the garage node in an AR window. If he gets an alert from the Tower, he logs back in using the security account he created earlier to check / disable the alert.

He will duct tape one of the cheap links to a pole or wall every 100 m or so to create a jury-rigged wireless network linking back to the garage

Roll for jury rigging wireless network:
Logic 6 + Electronics 4 = 10d6.hits(5)=3

Seth
OK now I have books...the spirit is searching with a 10 minute per check.

The base difficulty to find the boxes looks to me to be 0 (i.e. 10 minutes) unless the box is behind a ward or concealed. (p297 sr4a)

The spirits gets: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3018922/
  • After 10 minutes. 4 successes
  • After 20 minutes. 7 successes
  • After 30 minutes. 10 successes

I will certainly call it back after 30 minutes...

Oh, snap! I though Shifters and Sapient critters both started out with Uneducated as a Neg qual. I guess shifters have been around long enough that most aren't born in the jungle any more. At least most that would get into running.
Seth
You've got me worried now. I will go check in the rule book (tomorrow as I am once again AFB).

My character background though includes spending a lot of time in the city...still plenty of people in the city are uneducated!

BTW Sorry about the IC dig...I laughed when I read the comment...but it was good advice. Personally none of my characters ever leaves booby traps: I can think of few better ways to become the number one most wanted "Shadowrunner responsible for death of 6 kids" headlines are just around the corner. I guess that leaves me blind to the idea that other people would be that foolish...and the ghouls have little to loose...they are pretty much already the number one most wanted.

No worries, I checked the book, and it's not an automatic quality like it is with Sapients. It's just a recommended quality.

sounds good, I'll try to look at them soon, I'd probably recomend a less magical character at the moment. We seem to be leaning that way kinda heavy. But on the other hand, you might be replacing said magic characters in future...
Warlordtheft
Just in case it is needed while escorting Ferret to the tower:

Perception roll:
12d6.hits(5) → [4,4,4,6,3,3,1,3,2,5,2,5] = (3)
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3019726/

Infiltration Roll:
4d6.hits(5) → [1,5,4,4] = (1)
Yeah for unskilled!
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3019732/

Also let me know if you want me to roll anything else.
pbangarth
Professor checks out the truck.

INT 11 + Perception 5 + (looking for nothing in particular, so no +3) = 16 dice ==> 6 HITS

Well the stats and background for Requiem and Ember can be found following my the link in my Signature. I've got notional stats for the other two but nothing finalised...I'll try and work them up soon to a semi finished level and then polish whichever would be most useful...

I'm back! Sorry again for the delay.

@Warlord- Jovan's watcher never actually left the gas station... I just wasn't able to respond to your question. It's totally cool for the watcher to have left for a bit, though. I can roll with that. I was planning on doing that sometime soon anyway.

@Red-ROM- to adjust to the above, I would like Jovan to have sent the two watchers around the gas station to Search for his contact Zayne, since he cannot contact him via matrix currently. Unless Zayne is currently busy, Jovan would like to specifically ask him two questions:
1) what he knows about the Johnson and his right hand woman for the job Zayne contacted him about last night,
2) What he's heard about a ghoul by the name of Jonathan, who seems to have been collecting feral and semi-feral ghouls in recent weeks.

I specifically ask these things OOC because I know you're already having trouble with the time difference b/w the astral stuff and the rest of the party, but if you want to do this IC that's totally fine with me.
Red-ROM
It's hard to see but I put a link to the thread with the conversation that Amber recorded.

Would Professor be right in assuming that if a trace of a signature remained, the magical effect happened at most only hours ago?

And would that chaotic christian thaumaturgy be something found in a Threats supplement, I wonder? wink.gif I don't see anything in Professor's Knowledge Skills that would directly apply to figuring it out, but once he reports what he sees, someone else might be able to shed some conspiracy theory light on the matter.

this is what happens when you post without books, I guess the signature should really have dissapated by now. since the attack was like a week ago (according to most evidence so far)

the mall fight was late last Friday, the basement fight was early Thursday morning

edit: the strange signature hasn't been seen before, and I made it up, so it's not in the books.
