Possible bug?
About the House Rule option: Essence loss only reduces MAG/RES maximum
If I have a character with one point of Ess loss, the MAG attribute is changed correctly depending on whether I have this setting checked. Yet the skill calculation for MAG-linked skills still uses the "full" MAG rating, no matter whether the setting is checked or not.
Tested with an existing character and a new character made with the latest build of Chummer.

This does seem like a friendly and updated generator; through I am disappointed it's not open source*. The issue for me is not so much being able to contribute, but security. This program connects to the net with the character exchange omae, and I'd feel better knowing what's under the hood. I understand you don't want help - that's fine - but I don't understand why you won't make the latest code available for the community. People could still suggest things to you, and others would feel safer knowing there's nothing malicious in the code.
*yes, I know some code is on Google Code, and that's great, but if this is not the latest code, than my point about security still stand
Either way, double thumbs up for developing this great tool.

As far as I know the code on Google Code is the latest there is. Only the downloadable ZIP is older. If you look into the SVN repository it's pretty up-to-date. Well, as up-to-date as a (sadly) discontinued project can be.
Also, the latest code in the SR5 development is available on GitHub (https://github.com/finsterdexter/chummer2). But I don't think anyone's actively working on that either.
Also: there might be an opensource project for SR5 that I'm currently working on, but it's too early to announce yet.

I want to thank you very much for your hard work on Chummer, Nebular. It made creating a character for 4A so much easier.
I will not be switching over to 5E. So its good I still have the 490 version, sad it wont be maintained. But Chummer is so awesome, so thanks again, Nebular.

Ok, how do I set a language as native? I am not seeing anything on that on Chummer wiki... bug?
Anyway, I was looking at Knowledge Skills. Few years ago I compiled a list of the ones mentioned in some official books, perhaps you can use it to expand the choices Chummer gives you:
Academic (I): Biology, Medicine, Magic Theory (specialization of magic?), Politics (note there is Corporate Politics and others - they probably mean Political Science), Philsophy, Poetry (specialization of Literature?), Literature (by region, period, type - Sci-Fi, Poetry, Fiction, Romance), History (spec. listed: by era - Ancient, Medival, Roman, Modern by region - continent), Music, Ancient Egyptian Magic (why not interest? quite specialized), Military History (specialization of history?), Parazoology (specialization of Zoology?), Magic Background (not really clear what this background is... history?), Finanses (also Corporate Finances), Chemistry (spec. listed: Industrial, Organic, Inorganic, Pharmaceuticals), Astral Researching, Engineering (can also be prof.), Megacorp Law (can also be prof. or even interest), Corporate Finances, Political History, Cyberware Research, Magic, Economics (spec. listed: micro, macro), Biology (spec. listed: micro, anatomy, parazoology, physiology), Ares Macrotechnology (why street? can be prof or interest... spec listed: Damien Knight (founder), AresSpace, Ares Arms, Seattle Operations),
Professional (I): Journalism, Business, Military Service, Aztechnology Business Practice (seems rather limited, specialization of specific org and further, apsect of its operations?), Arms Manufacturers, UCAS Military (specialization of military organizations?), Lone Star Procedures (can also be street knowledge? specialization of specific org and further, apsect of its operations?), Number Running (huh? accounting? any different from Finanses?), Auto Mechanics (can also be academic), Spirits (also, academic or interest), Data Haven, Matrix Theory (matrix. spec?), IC Identification (IC - ICE? Why not just Ice?), Architecure (spec. listed: Commercial, Residential, by style - Baroque, Bauhaus, German Ghotic), Business (Finance, Distribution, Manufacturing, Megacorp, Retail, Small Business), Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear), Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coastal Guard, Special Forces), Security Procedures (spec listed: by company), Security Design (spec: corporate, magica, matrix, military, physical, private home)
Street Knowledge (L): Gang Identifiction (specialization in general gang knowledge?), Criminal Organizations (looks broader than Gang Indentification, unbalanced?), Smuggling Routes (specialization of smuggling?), Fringe Cults (specialization of cults?), Seatte Talismongers (specialization of talismongers?), Seattle Street Gangs (specialization of street gangs? spec. listed: per name of gang), Seattle Safehouses (note there is also Safe Houses, specialization of?), Seattle Syndicates (Cryminal Organizations limited to Seattle? Seattle specialization), Crook Hangouts (hangout specialization?), Mercenary Hangouts (hangout specialization?), Safe Houses (note there is also Seattle Safehouses), Local Junkyards (specialization of Local?), Gang Turf (gang specialization? note: not 'street gangs', not 'Seattle'...), Mafia Politics (another Politics specialization? or Mafia spec.?), Mafia Safe Houses (Mafia or Safe Houses Spec.?), Underworld Politics (consider: wouldn't Mafia Politics be a subgroup of that?), Local Area Knowledge, Radical Groups (can also be interest of academic), Border Patrol Tactics (quite similar to Corporate Security Tactics...), Smuggler Safe Houses (another related to smuggling and safe houses), BTL Dealers (dealers or BTL spec.?), Gang ID (same as Gang Identification?), Local Charity Shelters, Public Transportation Routes, Hong Kong Triads (spec. listed: Yellow Lotus, Red Dragons, etc.), Security Companies (spec. listed: Lone Star, Knight Errant, Hard Corps, Seattle Sec Corps), UCAS Politics (why street? spec. listed: Congressional, Presidential, by state, by lobby group, by party)
Interests (L): Woodworkig, Urban Brawl Teams (specialization of Urban Brawl?), Sci-Fi Sims (specialization of Sims?), Elven Wine (specialization of Wine?), Ancient Mythologies (why not academic? specualizatSion in mythologies?), North American Arms Dealers (specialization in Arms Dealers? Compare to common 'Seattle specialization', this is rather better. hould be rather street anyway...), Global Conflicts (specialization of conflicts?), Cop Trids (specalization of trids?), Urban Brawl Odds (I'd say Gambling with specialization in Urban Brawl or the other way around...), Fine Cuisine (Cuisine specialization? Can also be professional), Modern Literature (Literature specialization, can easily be academic), Computer Background (history?), Pirate Trid Broadcasts (spec. of Trids?), Racing Odds (another gambling specialization?), Fine Restaurants (restaurants specialization?), Urban Brawl Schedule (great, a third Urban Brawl specialization, like just 'Urban Brawl' is too good? sigh), Combat Bike Schedule (what's wrong with combat bike?), Firearms Design, Firearms History (so, why not just take Firearms with two specializations? seems more logical and hardly game breaking, but of course you can take History specialized in Firearms to cheat if needed, sigh). Hong Kong Action Movies (Movies specialization...), Conspiracy Theories, Corporate Matrix Security Procedures (specializations somewhere, certainly), Matrix Chatrooms, Operating Systems, Urban Brawl Statistics (mercy, fourth Urban Brawl specialization? Look me in the eye and tell me they are any different...), Zen Meditation, Goblin Rock (but Music is broader...), Comic Books (spec. of Literature?), Blade Design, Gun Trivia (why not Firearm...), Sim-Starlets, Seattle Troll Throttle Metal Bands,(sigh), Club Music (spec. listed - Goblin Rock, Powernoize, Rockabilly, Sintcore, WizPunk), Matrix Games (Dawn of Atlantis, Dark Eye, Grand Larceny, Kiling Floor, Paranormal Crisis), Sports (Baseball, Combat Biking, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Urban Brawl, Wrestling), Street Drugs (BTLs, Cram, Deepweed, Novacoke, Spike), Wines (California Wines, Elven, French, Vineyards)

I added a new melee weapon to the weapons xml, and a new skill to the skills xml file.
In Chummer on the weapons tab to the right, where it says, Dice Pool. As you hover over the number on Dice Pool, it lists Chummer Help, Pistols 8, this would be Agility -1 for defaulting.
So how do I edit this to put it under the new correct skill?
Or how do I edit the Chummer Help part?

A friend testing Chummer reports the following bugs/problems:
"Chummer still has significant problems. The one I've found is that if you are O type, such that all your normal grade bioware is treated as delta, then some bioware you install has an essence loss of 0. Additionally, in the one I am trialling I've spent like 2 million yen already because the program doesn't factor in that your delta equivalent grade cyberware is purchased at the cost for normal grade."
Also myself, I am not seeing any warning messages when going below 0 essence - it still allows one to add more and more ware, without indicating the cyberzombie status...
oh, one more bug to report: omae window is borked, it cuts of parts (title?) for all but first entry, and the scroll menu extends beyond the window. See picture. Using Windows 7, 1920x1024 res

Aug 16 2013, 03:46 PM
Dicking around I had a fun issue:
I wanted to load a Watercannon (the Lonestar one) that I have have on a drone with KE IV. I even picked up DMSO to do this (thinking that's how you would do it). When I tried to reload the gun, it flashed for a sec, then all seemed well (damage was listed per normal (like 8S or whatever it is). NOTE that I didn't CHOOSE the KE IV or the DMSO or anything like that. it just flashed and the stats were loaded up in the readout.
On a DIFFERENT drone, I had an ares super squirt. I similarly wanted to load that one up with the same compound. No dice, says "no special ammo" or whatever. OK, I think, split the amount you have into 2 groups in the inventory, that should do it. No dice. Still no ammo error.
Hmmm.... So I exit without saving, try again, this time splitting first, then loading. Same deal. Watercannon is fine, super squirt ain't. HMMM.... Exit, no save, reload. Load up the super squirt first... No problem chief! Watercannon? "NO AMMO!!!"
Either I've done something wrong, or this is a bug. Anyone able to help?

As I read it SR5 was stopped. But about SR4 i read nothing. I thought (hoped) it was/is too much work to make everything for SR5.
Well i also have a question and/or problem:
I searched everywhere but could not find a clue...
I made a char:
Human
== Attributes ==
BOD: 5
AGI: 5
REA: 4
STR: 3
CHA: 3
INT: 4
LOG: 5
WIL: 6
EDG: 2
MAG: 4
== Qualities ==
Big Regret
Distinctive Style
Infected: Vampire
Infertile Infected (Infection Power)
Magician
SINner (Standard) (Dylan Bishop)
Vendetta
Wanted (Aztechnology)
Spellcasting: 5 Pool: 9
But after i create the char, the program counts always magic set to 5:
== Attributes ==
BOD: 5
AGI: 5
REA: 4
STR: 3
CHA: 3
INT: 4
LOG: 5
WIL: 6
EDG: 2
MAG: 5
Spellcasting: 5 Pool: 10
Also if i want to raise magic with karma it says: "Improve to 6 for 30 karma"
So i dont see why or if this is a bug? And also if so what i can do so it is count as magic 4?

DukeCypher, being a Vampire means your character has a reduced Essence of 5. The default way Chummer handles the karma cost of improving your Magic when your Essence is reduced is that you pay a modified cost. In past times I've seen this cause a weird modifier to the Magic where it gets increased by the Essence loss.
Try going into the Options > Miscellaneous > and check the "Karma cost for increasing Special Attributes is reduced with Essence Loss" option. You may have to save, close, and relaunch Chummer for the change to take effect; you might even have to restart from the Create file (if available) to migrate into Career mode again. In the very least it will base the karma cost of improving your Magic by the literal value and not the modified.

I'm not the author, but I know the implementation of Chummer, and to be honest: I highly doubt it. It's written in .NET and that's not really available on Android (except for Xamarin.Android, but that's payed-for). Especially since Nebular doesn't want to work on it anymore.
On a related note: I'm currently working on a character generator (for SR5) and I'm developing it as a web application, so it should work on pretty much all platforms (including offline), when it's done. But that's quite some time away.

Nebular thank you so much for all that you've done on this post. It has helped me tremendously. As a new GM, this the first and only program I've used for my players. It has been a pleasure and I am sad to hear that you will no longer be working on it.
One small to you or whoever will be taking over the project. Is there a way to make the "Shift" Critter Power available for character creation once the ignore character character creation rules box is checked? It would be great to be able to choose this ability and fill in the blank on what form the critter shifts into.
Thanks again for all your hard work!

Found a bit of a bug in the Aspected Magician negative qualities that I had been wondering about for a while but only now went to investigate.
The Sorcery & Conjuring skills are coded by their skill groups in the qualities, but the skill penalties are never applied to their individual skills. The skills that are individually called out, like Assensing, get their penalty accordingly.
Also, from reading the Spell Category/Spirit Aspect, it seems that you don't choose just one or the other but that you get both. In other words, if a Hermetic magician were to take that aspect for Combat, anything pertaining to Combat spells and Fire spirits would not be penalized but all other magical skills would be.

Finally, Arsenal has been published in Japan at the late of July.
And I uploaded Japanese translation of Chummer , includes SR4A , Augmentation, Street Magic , and also Arsenal.
By the way...
I heard 5th edition of Shadowrun will be published soon.
But, in Japan, even Runner's Companion isn't published yet.
So, I can't tell when I can get 5th edition rulebooks in Japanese.
Will it be available before the establish of Aztlan? or after 1st Matrix Crash?

It is a pity that nobody else has stepped up to polish off this wonderful program for those of us who are... reluctant to move onto a new edition when the current one serves us well enough. Especially as some modifications aren't particularly difficult (Props go to Nebular for keeping the markups tight), such as how I've added the ability for the nanohive to have nanoware added directly to it in my files.

Using Chummer for SR4:
Mystic Adept with implants has mag 4 (reduced from 5), split 3/1. Works fine in create mode.
When i convert to career mode, mag stays 4, but split changes to 3/2.
In XML:
While in create mode, mag is at 4 (value and totalvalue) and there's an essence_loss improvement of 1 which influences karma cost of improving magic, but NOT the displayed value in Chummer.
Split values are at 3/1.
While in career mode, mag is at 5. Essence loss improvement as before, but this time it affects the value displayed in Chummer.
Split values are at 3/2 - Manually fixing them to 3/1 is ignored when opening the file with chummer. Obvously essence loss is ignored and the split is based on the unmodified value.
Has anyone found a way to fix this behaviour?

I've discovered a bug in Chummer.
If you're maxxed out at 35 BP gained from negative qualities with at least one enemy contact, then set one of your existing Enemies to "Free Contact" and try to add another with the exact same group ratings, Chummer throws an error and says you can't have more than 35 BP from negative qualities, even though you don't.

Chummer is a really great tool. I found it a year ago and loved it right away!
But nothing is beyond room for improvement so I would like to propose a feature request and report a bug:
1. Once a weapon is loaded, the ammo is associated with that weapon. Lets say I got 10 Bullets APDS for heavy pistols and I load it into my Ares Predator. If I want to use the APDS with my manhunter there is just one way to unload the ammo from the Predator and that is by loading it with different ammo. I'd like to propose a button like the reload button to simply unload a weapon. Important for selling weapons, the ammo gets lost too.
2. Grenades show up in the selected weapon list but the reload and fire button produce errors.
Cheers

No xml customization needed. For a character saved in career mode, go to the improvements tab (the last one on the right). Add Improvement, select Attribute as Improvement Type, Select Value AGI, Adjust the value, and give it a name like "Sustained Agility". Now you can turn it on and off any time by making that improvement "Active".

You don't need to expend karma. You just need to finalize character creation by checking the box in the upper right hand corner of the Character Info tab, then save the character.
You'll get a warning, then you'll be in career mode afterwards and can create improvements in the appropriate tab.

Hello guys its me again with a question about Chummer.
I am trying to figure out how to see, in the vehicle section, the dice pool for attack with mounted weapons.
In the Gear section Chummer automaticaly calculate the dice pool for your weapons but I dont see it doing the same with mounted weapons even if you have the Gunnery skill.
Also I am trying to make Chummer calculate the dice pool of programs for Hacker characters since it only list the rating of the program and not the total dice pool for it.
Any tips or solutions for those questions?

Hey guys, don't know if updates are still being done for this but I noticed today while modding a drone in chummer that it doesn't allow the armour to go 3x body as Arsenal states it can with the armour modification. Or did they change that in the revision of Arsenal? Temporary work around is just adding smart armour, but then that removes the normal armour so you then also have to add the normal armour and just ignore the drone going over the slot modification cap.

I'm not sure if updates are being done to Chummer anymore, but I noticed something that I figured would have been fixed a LONG time ago when putting together a character.
Per RC page 73, SURGE characters get a number of BPs for Qualities that do not count towards the 35 BP cap dependent on the Class of SURGE they are. Class 1 gets 10 Positive and 5 Negative; Class 2 gets 20 Positive and 10 Negative; Class 3 gets 30 Positive and 15 Negative.
When I select one of the levels, it appears as if the Positive BPs that I should get as a bonus are halved. That is, when I add Class 1 SURGE I am only getting 5 Positive BPs and not 10. The same thing applies for Class 2 and Class 3 in that the amount of Positive BPs is being calculated wrong.
I hope someone is still looking at this application and doing updates?
