You fail to get any Psychology roll-based insight on this guys motives or methods. You as the player of Smith can make whatever assumptions you like.
You can write the next IC post as fluffy or summarily as you are inclined. The end result is that, until further notice this guy can and is willing to provide for all of your needs up to Rating 5 (or Rating 10 availability Restricted items) for a 35% discount from BBB price.
He is happy to try to get higher rated stuff for you, but that is full price and no guarantee how long it might take.
Of course he will need biometric data for fake IDs. But it can be sent electronically. He doesn't need to meet any of your clients, but if you want to tell anyone else about him or what he does, he wants to meet that person before any revelation of what he does for a living (maybe too late, in some cases, but you can try to handle that however you like if it comes up).
So wrap that up. Shortly after you leave Dirty Dicks, I would appreciate if you also please included receiving the following voice mail: "Hey it's me. Sorry, but this girl's gotta work work work this weekend. Don't take this or anything else as a brush-off. You're really cute. Call again next week, if you still want to."
After that, you can do something or nothing up to early Thursday evening. I'll take it from there.

I will be travelling for the next few weeks. Still will be checking in as frequently as possible, but will be more sporadic than usual.
So if I disappear for a few days now and then, don't worry - at least not through mid-January.

Thinking maybe you didn't see my post above about the OOC results of your meet with Nym. Or you were just pressed for time, which is totally cool.
I filled in some of the blanks in my latest IC, but there is still some stuff in the above post I hope you have time to help with.
Besides that, can you let me know OOC exactly how much money you have already paid - I mean, did you actually order some IDs, and if so, which exactly.
You'll have to reconnect with people physically so you can use your comm to transmit their biometrics to Nym, since he doesn't want other people having his contact info - but that can be covered in as little as one line IC.
Again, once you finish the stuff in the above post, I will chime in again.
BlackHat
Dec 15 2007, 02:40 AM
I think I missed that there was another page.

Anyways, no problem.

Will add something tonight, regarding that whole thing.
As far as having told anyone about Nym, aside from "Yeah, I might know some people that can help you out." He hasn't said anything to the team about the contact, yet. Though I was sort of planning on having them present when the real sale went down before this.

This works out just as well, though.
As for money, Adam didn't bring thousands of dollars on him, definitely doesn't have Rocky and Cerb's cash, and would rather not immediately spend the money he made on the last run up front, so he'll pitch to pay half when the biometric data is delivered and half when the goods are ready. If he insists on cash up front, Smith can transfer enough to cover the troll's new IDs with what is left of his digital cred. If the shopping list got longer in those 12 hours (see below), I might have to stop home for some cash and meet up with him again.
As far as WHAT he buys, Adam'll have to double-check his notes on his commlink (and any messages from the team since he left), but so far, this is what I know we need:
1 rating 4 SIN for Rocky (w/ driver & awakened paperwork), 1 rating 3 SIN for Cerb (w/ drivers) and a semi-disposable rating 1 SIN for Cerb (w/ drivers). Two rating 4 concealed Carry permits (one for Rocky's R4 SIN for a Super Warhawk, and one for Cerb's R3 SIN for a pistol, but he didn't say which one OOC) and a rating 4 license for Rocky's SIN for explosive ammo.
Total so far: 4800 from Rocky and 4400 from Cerb, reduced (35%) to a total of 5,980. And, when it comes time for those two to pay, Smith/Johnson is planning to work pro-bono. So we're talking 3,120 from Rocky and 2,860 from Cerb.
I've heard a lot of stuff tossed around, but nothing IC:
Is Fort for still planning on an improved reflexes spell formula (500), a detect enemies spell formula (500), some lodge materials (forcex500) and a pony(?). Need to know the force, but it sounds like anything force 5 or lower should getable. Its jsut a question of how much you want to spend, and if you really want it.
I know Sledge has been making a wish-list, but I dunno if DR actually has one on hand. I certainly don't remember all of those things.
Basically, if anyone forwards an actual request to Johnson, and has the cash/cred to pay the next time he hooks up with the team, he'll pick it up now, otherwise we can worry about it later. Most of our wish-list stuff would have made our lives easier, but wouldn't really qualify as necessities like these IDs - so without some sort of list from the team, Johnson's not going to worry about it too bad.

Also important: In collecting the biometric data, am I going to need some sort of biometric reader (or, worse yet, a seperate reader for all of them?) Does Nym have a loaner? or should I put it on my list of necessary supplies?
BlackHat
Dec 15 2007, 03:19 AM
Intentionally still left the exact details of what was purchased a little vague, but unless anyone speaks up soon, its probably just he SINs and licenses.
Adamu can feel free to pick up, but the plan is to go back to campus, actually make it to a class for a change, then meet up with the trolls for money and biometrics and maybe dinner. Then transfer ditigal cred and biometric data to Nym.
But since you said to IC up to thursday evening, I didn't know if what you wanted to post about would happen before or after dinner.

-Cerberus is out cold until Friday 6am. He wont be awake to give biometric data or money.
-Rocky was going to change his face around...
-Our medkit has got to have a biometric reader on it..
-Cant we just assume Johnson was smart enough to know he would be getting SIN's and so already has the biometric data. We could also just assume he took our money to and just mentioned giving back the change when he delivers our new docs.
-Adamu never defined "type" with the whole license thing. If we have to be specific with stuff then my pistol = predator.
-Now that we have that good discount can Cerberus upgrade his order?
R4 w/drivers + R1 w/drivers Sin 5k, R5 license Conceal and Carry - predator 500 and R5 license for Gel ammo 500. Thats 6k total before the discount. 3900 Hundred after.
-I dont see how I could relay this information to Smith since im out of it but I dont want to start the next adventure without being able to grab some. I can go grab some sometime friday-saturday or something? I would like to get 90 rounds of gel ammo(270 availability 4R) and 5 spare clips(25).
Technical Questions for Adamu. Would there be anything we can do with compromised SIN's? Is there a way to keep them on our commlinks without any hackers being able to access the info or anyone who gets the commlink? If we delete them from our comms is there a way to ever access those SINS and Licenses again??
....hey couldnt we just get the names on any fake license attached to a compromised SIN changed and then connected to our new SIN??
...man I swear I had one more question but i cant remember it.

Dec 15 2007, 02:06 PM
Yeah, those are all adamu's calls.
I don't have a lot of problem with having Adam takes the troll's cash and biometrics up front, if adamu doesn't, except that the numbers he could ask for would be estimates (market price). While not overly likely, its certainly possible that he'll end up dealing with some sort of social-adept, or pheromone enhanced (or just better than he is) black-market dealer, and end up paying more than market price for something - which was why I originally assume I would work out a price, and then we could see if you guys were willing to pay.
As far as upgrading the items, that's up to adamu too, but I think that it might make sense if Cerb said something along the lines of "Get me the best SINs and license than you can, for under 4.5K" or something like that. Then, had negotiations gone the other way, he would have gotten worse than the ratings he wanted, but since it went well, they'll end up better quality than he had hoped (although there won't be as much change left at the end of the day). Adding in a new item seems more questionable, but Cerb did express interest in a whole bunch of licenses that he couldn't afford - so I'll just leave it up to adamu.
In any case, once he says how he'd prefer things to go down, I can edit my last post, or not, to reflect having the data on hand, or adding in a few more items.

Hey Blackhat how come you skinned your AR glove and trodes. Can you like mentally interact with the matrix by touhing your glove?? Doesnt that bypass any and all need for trodes and a sim mod?
And the trodes I dont understand either. I thought trodes beam and pick up signals in your brain, they dont have to touch to do that. The only thing that I can think of is that you use the skinlink to turn them on or off or something??
Enlighten me dude! I dont want to be missing out on somthing cool...
AHHHH HAAAA I remembered my other question but Im pretty sure i already know the answer or its irrelevant now. Can you move the sim mod from one commlink to another? Can you just buy a sim mod and cram it in a comm that does not have one? Those probably require extended tests with Hardware and logic??
@Pragma Do it right the first time =P
BlackHat
Dec 15 2007, 08:51 PM
Skinlinking doesn't give you mental control over the items, its jsut an alternative way to connect them together. So like, you options are having wires all over conencting your devices (safe from wireless hacking, but old-school looking), having everything be wireless (convenient, but anyone with a commlink could try hacking your shit) or using your body's bioelectric field as the network (not wireless, no wires, but nothing can leave contact with you).
So, having the gloves and contacts skinlinked means as soon as I put them on, they can connect to my commlink, without me having to connect any wires, or open them up to wifi-hacking. Same goes for my trodes, once I put them on my head, my brain is conencted to any of the other devices I have skinnlinked that are touching my body.
Of course, since most of hte time my commlink would be connected to the matrix and sending and recieving radio-signals, Smith can still be hacked, but they'd have to target his high-end commlink, rather than his off-the-shelf contact lenses, since that's the only piece that's wirelessly communicating.
BlackHat
Dec 15 2007, 08:57 PM
And, if what you want, is mental control of something just by touching it, you could do that, but you'd need that item to be skinlinked, and also have a skinlinked item that conencts to your brain (trodes, simrig, etc). You'd probably want a commlink in there somewhere too if you wanted to do anything once you're connected... but yeah.
Abbandon
Dec 15 2007, 09:23 PM
Oh yeah....its so hard keeping stuff straight. Hmm well skin linking my commlink is definately out so I guess I dont have to worry about that crap! That will teach to you to make wierd mods to your gear so that i specifically see them and get confused!!

How would Smith feel about trying to extort someone for money and gear?? Cerberus cant get the thought of Ezekiel Smithers out of his mind. That dude srewed Rocky and Cerb and I would love to collect some compensaton from him.
If I have Cerb go in there and try to rough him up then i will most likely get arrested or killed. Smith would be perfect though!! He could go in there and tell the dude that he has two very pissed off trolls that are not very happy with his job recreuitment skills. He could play his little word games with Ezekiel and talk about how the trolls would be willing to forgive his screw ups if he compensated them.
For example a troll sized harley scorpion for Cerberus and 10k. I dont know what Rocky would want.
Then Smith could mention the fact that the trolls might let it be known to certain parties that Ezekiel is the one who set Loui up with the them and subsequently killed him, maybe under Ezekiels directions. If that doesnt work Smith can mention the fact that he has two very pissed off trolls who feel like they need to be compensated, and they plan to collect one wayor another. Which is the same reasons why Ezekiel wont tamper or screw with the items that the trolls want.
>How risky is that for Smith?
BlackHat
Dec 15 2007, 10:03 PM
"Very" if Ezekiel shoots him.
But when you're awake, feel free to bring it up in character. Until one of my baited hooks gets a bite, we're effectivly unemployed, having a few personal missions would help keep people from being bored and broke. So I'm definatly not opposed to the idea of you guys suggesting missions. If Cerb and Rocky both have a vendetta against Ezekiel Smithers, and he knows too much about you guys, it might be worth everyone's time to help cut that loose end (and if it isn't, it would be in you guys' best interest to make it worth their while).
As for Ezekiel, I don't know the whole story (in character, or out, really) but I thought I kept a pretty good eye on you and Rocky once you entered the game for real. Seems like Zeek set you guys up with a pretty posh job. you guys got to ride around in big fancy cars, pick on people that wouldn't dare fight back for real, and it wasn't really Ezekiel that turned that dream-job into a nightmare. As I recall, it was all the murder on the way out of a certain coffin motel that got Louie upset.
I'm not sure that qualifies as Ezekiel screwing anyone over.

As someone that was there, I gotta agree with BH on this one.
He set Rocky up with a job, as he asked. As well as the things he needed to survive on the streets with nothing but a little cash to his name.
For Rocky the problem was Louie, and Rocky was the one that bailed on the agreement, he'll just be happy if Zeek just forgets he ever met Rocky.
Now if he starts causing problems for us, then we'll take the "gloves" off and get down to business.
Now I'm not saying don't bring it up IC, just don't be surprised when Rocky doesn't back you up at this point. Unless their is something Cerb knows Rocky doesn't.
For now Rocky just wants some where to call home, and to get some plastic surgey so every Tom, Dick & Harry on the street doesn't reconize him.

(written before Jdragon post bove)If by posh job you mean mindless killers who have zero chance of changing careers, sure ok. Maybe he is innocent maybe he is guilty. I say we just shake the tree and find out what falls out.
Hmmm well I think Cerberus feels insulted by the job Ezekiel lined up for him. Like he thought thats all Cerberus was good for or he just put him someplace he wasnt ever going to have to deal with him again. Sure Cerberus could have turned down the job he was offered, but could he really?? He only had 2 months before he was homeless. I guess there is nothing to suggest Ezekiel helped Loui try to kill us, but we cant rule it out either.
It was just an idea hehe

At the risk of painting a big target on my character's chest, Johnson recruited you for those very same skills, and you have much less than two-month's rent now. Does that mean you're going to feel stuck in this job and come gunning after him as soon as he looks the other way?

Oh, I didn't mean about the missing "that" (It actaully took me a while to figure out what you meant). I meant the idea of Cattie going to college.
All we need now, is to convince the trolls to go back to school for some sort of physical education degrees, Sledge could pick up some sort of technical degree - maybe architecture or something, and Fortuanto - well, they don't really have interrogation degrees, but I think he'd do well in psychology.

Regenerated, but it's from things that happened in game. We have terribly insecure communications equipment, except for Angels head. + 3 Visual and + 3 Audio enhancement gear has been lacking for Sledge, a Jammer would have been extremely useful against a murderous drone or two, a surveillance drone or two would have been useful to scout Louie and the two feds, etc etc. Armor with insulation... Sledge has been electro stunned a couple times.
Of course, this isn't everything, wait till Sledge builds the shotgun/Stun Baton combo weapon for herself.

* Nym is fine with half up front.
* It is fine to assume that you got the biometric info from the trolls before leaving, and also that your instructions were to get the best IDs possible for X nuyen - not like there are "rating X" IDs out there in the IC world anyway.
You can also assume you already got their cash, if you want.
That way for delivery Nym can send them the stuff electronically - not like there is any hardware/hardcopy anyway.
ON the biometric info - yeah, both a hardware and software test would be required, but a medkit could be jerry-rigged to read the data. Talk to me if you actually want to do it.
But assume R4 and up commlinks (those that are actually handheld hardware - not headware or "woven into clothes" models or whatnot) have biometric reading ands sending functionality.
That is NOT a biometric reader per se in that it does not in itself have hookups to verification services - for that you gotta pay for a verifier per the book. And a lot of online places won't accept biometrics online cuz the whole point is to see that the person is the person, and too many ways to fake it online. But for purposes of just friendly-to-friendly info-sharing, the commlink can do it.
So essentially, the IDs can be all taken care of within 12 game-hours of your meet with Nym, and without you meeting the trolls or even calling them back.
In fact, I would appreciate if you did not call them back or try to meet them again by noonish Friday, because they"ve already ICed all that and I don't want the universe to explode.
Delivered IDs and cost to trolls is per latest OOC orders, including Abbandon's upgraded order.
So Black Hat, if you could just slightly adjust your last IC.
Then the trolls could IC receipt of the ID orders at either the end of their most recent ICs, or at the beginning of their next ICs.
* BlackHat - At 1800ish on Thursday, you get a voice mail from Franco at a matrix drop box - if nothing had been arranged, just assume it was, cuz it should've been.
"Kid, you need to be more fucking careful. Your sloppiness gave someone the wherewithal to try making my end of the deal cost-proinhibitive. What a bitch. This is comin' outta your pocket, but we'll talk about that later when we can meet face to face, which is not a good idea just yet. But listen to be rain on your parade. Ya busted yer cherry, kid. Nice fuckin' work when all is said an'done. And I have kept my end of the deal - none of the three individuals in question is currently sought by the Families. The other way is gonna be looked, on this one, if you know what I mean. The obvious condition being that they don't do nothing stupid like trying to take credit, forcin' O'Malley to do somethin'. Long as they never mention it, it won't come back to bite 'em - not from our end o' things, anyhow."
The tape is typical of Franco's vocal mix of poor grammar and rough pronunciation mixed with painfully conscious efforts to speak proper English.
* After you get that voice mail, you will still be free from 1800 Thursday till noon on Friday...let me know if you have other stuff to do.
* Clarification on Nym' capabilities - when I said he can meet your needs up to R5, I mean ID/license-wise. That is what he deals in.
* Response to Abbandon's questions as far as I understand them:
When you get a gun license - it is NOT for every gun of that type - it is for one gun. If you LICENSE a gun, they want the serial number (which is required to be both etched in physically and on an RFID which is also woven into the metal of the weapon). The whole purpose of licensing is to control and monitor the licensee, not give him a way to buy freedoms and rights. You can assume you sent that info to Nym along with everything else.
Since we are handling all this now, assume you will not be held liable for any ballistics being tied to your current weapons from anything you've ever done till now. It's not like they spend huge nuyen calling out CSI for a bunch of mobsters killing each other anyway.
When you talk about throwing away an ID - what you are basically doing is no more than simply not using it any more. You can't (easily) just go back and erase the reams of widely disseminated datawork that the shadowy fake ID organizations do to create the fake ID. All that stuff is out there - you just quit using that ID.
So if you were to decide you wanted to start using it again for whatever reason, you could just do so.
As for just swapping this bit of info or that piece of data between fake IDs, you could talk about getting that done with Nym or whoever. But that will always have a datatrail to one degree or another to previous incarnations of fake IDs.
Now, as you cycle through fake IDs, it is certainly possible that there will accumulate more and more of you biometrics out there in databases here and there and everywhere. They won't necessarily all be flagged - they may largely get lost seas of unrelated data, so they won't probably hurt you for day-to-day data verifications, but a good data miner that was really looking for you could probably put them together.
The whole idea of SINs and attaching them to biometrics is for the authorities to control and monitor you, and they are very good at it. Their resources are a zillion times what you will ever have.
Again, the idea is to be very careful, and still you will always leave some sort of footprint. All you can do is minimize it and know that the more you piss people off the more resources they will throw into finding you.
One thing you can do if you want to is buy IDs with preset viruses. One call to the fake ID maker (if you have an ongoing relationship) and they hit a button and wipe all record of said ID. Of course it costs extra. Here again, that virus could be detected by someone. And if you data was ever put offline somewhere, it won't all get wiped.
And round and round you go.
You say what you do - I adjudicate the final result as it becomes relevant.
I hope that answers your questions.
* pragma - if anyone with the medicine skill chimes in with a teamwork roll, go ahead and add their successes as dice to your pool and roll those for more boxes. All those guys are around in the room, obviously they can help if they want, no IC really necessary.
* pragma - your time stamps are a bit skewampus. I can't tell when you intend to end your IC. Do you intend to be finished through the 36 hours?
* pragma/Konsaki - please confirm for me that my memory is correct -
Angel cracked Birnhauser's comm for Fort.
Fort has paid her for doing so.
But Fort has not yet had time to examine the files.
Am I accurate?
Okay - if I have missed anything please let me know.

IC in the works. Wanted to check a couple of things.
A. Does Adam have a matrix drop box for responses to his boss? Or is that line of communication intentionally one-way (assuming I don't hack his commlink again)?
B. I take that to mean that Fortunato's magical supplies will have to wait. That's fine. At some point during the downtime in this post, I will drop a message to Deerwalker inquiring about either the items or a talismonger.
C. Pragma, does Fortunato inform Smith of what tradition he is? I don't know OOC, and probably don't know to ask IC, except that you're clearly not a tree-hugging hippy.
D. Yeah, I'll go for the biometric information. No need to jurry-rig a medkit, apparantly, because Smith has a rating 5 commlink (unless you meant both would be needed). In any case, I'll include rolls in case they are needed. Not sure if its an extended test or not, or what the threshold is, but here are some rolls.
[ Spoiler ]
All dice rolls are Logic (3) + Hardware/Software (2) = 5 dice
Cerb:
1,2,1,6,3 = 1 hit,
3,6,2,3,2 = 1 hit
Rocky
3,3,2,3,1 = 0 hits
1,3,3,3,6 = 1 hit
So, not impressive on my first round through, but no glitches (barely)

Also curious on what Nym's turnaround time is. For now, I'll plan on him not being done by Friday noon (since 24 hours seems short to forge 6 documents). I know there are rules for figuring out how long somethign takes to get based on price, and that its some sort of etiquette roll, I think - but when buying through a fixer I'm not sure if its the fixer rolling (since he's doign the work), or the buyer (to talk himself to the top of the fixer's queue).

Okay, old IC modified, new IC up.
Put out the word to Deerwalker.
Took care of the troll's IDs (assuming they havn't arrived).
Took the full estimate in cash out of both troll's payments last time (or however else they want to pay, I suppose) and will return change along with the IDs once the transaction is complete. So you guys can keep track of your money, but at the moment, Smith has a little bit more than what I calculated earlier.

Yeah, if the word is she'll hook us up if we go on another cake-run with Cal and Co., I'm putting Sledge in charge and staying home!

As stated earlier - the comms will be delivered electronically directly to the trolls at noonish on Friday. They can IC receipt.
Make sure Nym gets paid the second half of his money (or don't, but I need to know if you don't).
The drop box for Franco is one-way - he doesn't want you contacting him unless asked to do so.

No - I don't know if he has to wait. I just know that unlike with IDs and licenses, you cannot assume Nym will have access to magical supplies. Sounds like you are already getting proactive about finding another source.
The rolls you made were not enough to jury-rig the medkit, but as you suspected, it was an unnecessary roll. All is cool with the biometrics via your commlink.

Okay, definatly going to pay the second half once the trolls recieve their data (and, once I'm told about it). Won't bother Nym about it unless the Deerwalker lead falls through. I think the spells FOrt wanted arn't illegal, so he should just be able to walk into any head-shop on the strip and order one... but if Deerwalker has a particular crystal waver she prefers, it might be nice to point Fort in that direction, or jsut pick it up for him.
I think I've asked you that question about Franco before, too.

I'll just have to wait until he wants to meet to ask him about it.

OOC: Fort's not even sure what tradition he is right now. He's had a confusing couple of months.
IC: He asked for the magical equivalent of a couple of textbooks. Also a bunch of weird tribal hangings made, by in large, of pieces of snake anatomy.

The pain about SR4 is that everyone carries a commlink, which means that anytime you take down a bad guy, you get his entire PC, basically, with who knows how much stuff on it.
In a world of infinite time, I would give you a catalog of stuff on Birnhauser's comm and let you sift through it as a player.
But time is not so unlimited as I might wish.
So I just assume you search through this thing looking for stuff about you case, looking both electronically and by just skimming through manually as well.
Like a lot of shadowrunners, the guy wasn't really into keeping a highly incriminating personal diary. So there is no mention of you or your situation. However, he does keep an address book. And he has a habit of noting weaknesses of people next to their names along with their commcodes.
Rosso is on there, for example, with a commcode and "wife or girlfriend???"
A commcode is listed for Winston Jeffries, along with "extreme phobia of target"
A commcode is listed for Raven, with "severe gold allergy"
You can try finding names he called around same time of your initial incident, but his call records are thoroughly wiped, shredded and overwritten.
The comm itself is R4 except for the R6 firewall. It has all common-use programs at R4, plus Stealth 4.
No pictures.
No spell formulae.
Anything else?
If you could just make sure the bolded details make it somewhere into the IC narrative I would appreciate it.

Everyone
Okay - Johnson/Smith/Adam is still busy, but he is at the end of the magical 36 hours.
The only person not quite up to date is Fort, but I am sure he will be there with one more post, so he can play catch up.
At this point, everyone is free for at least another two hours, but I also need (non-binding) tentative itineraries of what you generally plan to do and where you plan to go/be for the next 24.
The two hours lets YOU get some stuff done, or start doing something.
The 24 hours lets ME have a setting in which to introduce IC events without making assumptions about your respective activities.

Smith:
Short-term plan will be to finish this call, and maybe meet up (or make a plan to meet up) with Deerwalker later. Probably check in with the team (verify that the Trolls got their IDs), wire Nym the other half, and set up a time to meet with the team to debrief about the fallout from the last mission, and generally check up on their wellfare.
Longer plan in the next 24 hours will involve checking my physical drop-box, and at some point hopefully meet up with Deerwalker, the Team, Cal, or anyone else who happens to get a hold of me and wants to do something on a Friday night (preffering them, in that order, where choices are available).
