I was a St-Elf. So I activated my chameleon skin and found a place to hide.
KarmaInferno
I am suddenly reminded of the incident involving the Invisible Man and Mr Hyde, in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic.

700 I will not take Geas True Veganism as the source of my psychic powers.

3227: I am not allowed to take 'The Vegan Police' as a contact in case an enemy takes a Vegan Geas and shoot them with DMSO/Half-and-half.
3227a: The same goes for 'League of Evil Exes'.
3227b: My Magic/Resonance/Charisma/Any Attribute is not 'Rating: Awesome'.
3227c: Using any form of social persuasion/Commanding Voice/Mental Manipulations to convince an enemy to grind a rail will only result in them falling over and grazing their knee, or nailing the trick perfectly then kicking my arse.
3227d: I do not get positive modifiers for pulling on a shirt, zipping a jacket, or tying my shoelaces quickly.
KarmaInferno
3228 - I am not allowed to carry a DMSO/Bacon Grease squirtgun to harass the Vegan teammate.
3228b - Nor am I allowed to use it to harass anyone with religion-based pork dietary restrictions.
3228c - No squirtguns for me at all. Ever. Just no.

There is an echo in War! called Feral Resonance. It lets you attune up to [submersion grade] ferals and they will "generally act in the technomancer's best interest."
CanRay
"OK, the Virtual Pets were bad enough, but you now have Pet AIs?" "Well, more like a wolf pack that's accepted me as their Alpha. Problem is, they keep marking the team's commlinks as their territory with garbage data, which corrupts music files..."

Oh hell no.
CanRay
3230a: "Metal Head Mike" the Rogue AI is no longer allowed in my games. Especially if he's going to overwrite all of the available memory space the group has in their network with the world's history of Heavy Metal Music and it's derivatives.

CanRay
3231a: Yes, my runner can be straight. This does not, however, give him the right to hit on every female member of the team. Even if drunk.
3231b: Yes, my runner can be straight. This does not, however, give her the right to hit on every male member of the team. Even if drunk.
3231c: Yes, my runner can be bisexual. Stop hitting on everything in a dress or pants!
3231d: Yes, my runner can be a lesbian. Stop being surprised when people call me a "Lesbian Elf Stripper Ninja", even if I am a Dwarf Rigger.
Squiddy Attack
3230b: Just because Metal Head Mike is forbidden does -not- mean I can have a rogue AI that does the same thing with any other genre of music, especially not one calling itself the "Avatar of Dwarf Polka".
CanRay
3230c: If I have the "Avatar of Dwarf Polka", he cannot be the Ghost of a Coroner named "Butters". That's a rip-off, not a call-out.

3231: I really am not allowed to complain about War! until I've looked at a copy with my own eyes. Really. Bad Dumpshocker!
Squiddy Attack
3231a: Nothing can stop a Dumpshocker from complaining.
3232: If the team's hacker is not a virgin after all, then no matter how bad the mental images are, vomiting is still in poor taste.
CanRay
3232a: You still have to remind the Team's Hacker that online and VR don't count. nyahnyah.gif

3233a:I am never again allowed to play a dwarven voodoo magician who binds all of his spirits into sex toys.
3233b: I am also never again allowed to open up a magical in-house kink service of any kind.
3233c: If I break rules 2322a-c, I am not allowed to charge extra for my services because "I'm a dwarf and that's kinky."

Depends, is he sporting a one-dwarf polka band ensemble?

And that reminds me, still over a month away from the next book....baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
CanRay
Even if he was, we'd need Necromancy to animate a T-Rex.
Draco18s
3234. I am forbidden from raising zombie t-rexes
3234a. Especially not any named Sue. That is also a rip-off and not a call out.

3235: My mage will not always wear a leather duster and have a hockey stick foci.
CanRay
3235a: In fact, the hockey stick thing was because the show was so Ghetto that they didn't have the budget for an actual walking stick. The drumstick was stupid as well.
3235b: If your mage is wearing a leather duster, that's because it's a lined duster. That's been around since 2050, after all.

When referencing something the books take precedent over short lived tv shows. This does not allow me to copy to much though
CanRay
3235d: Referencing the TV Show will likely get the referencee beaten by fans of the actual series. Jim Butcher is literally counting the seconds until the rights are his again.

3236: My runner has not "Payed the Cost to be the Boss" unless he has actually spent the karma to become the Boss.

Hey, I kinda liked the series. I honestly can't bash it too much due to its gateway influence in exposing me to the books. However, as much as I'd hope for it, I can't imagine the books going well to either the big screen, or small screen. For the big screen, I just imagine a good retelling would warrant an R rating. As for television, I can't help myself from thinking that they'd do the same thing that bugged me about season 1 of Dexter and drag the book out too damn long. Instead I keep wishing for the more likely, in my opinion at least, option of the Codex Alera books being done as a movie series.

And to actually add something to the topic:

3237: My mage may not have a spirit contact that's paid in trashy romance novels.
CanRay
3237a: Or porn.
3237b: Especially "Bubba The Love Troll Does Cell Block B"

3238: "Neil The Ork Barbarian" is fiction, no matter how many times you slot his chips.
3238a: "Slade the Sniper", same.
3238b: Don't be surprised if you get your hoop shot off thinking you're either one.
Neraph
I saw the first episode and within 5 minutes wanted to turn it off. I watched the whole episode, however, hoping that somehow it would correct itself.

It didn't.
Xahn Borealis
I have no idea what you are referencing and predict large amounts of outrage upon revealing this fact.

RE: Dresden files - the TV show was decent. The problem is that the books were much, much, much, much, much better.
CanRay
Trench coat wearing magician on a necromatically-powered T-Rex controlled by a One-Man Polka Band riding out against over-powered Evil People whose teacher started World War One to prevent them from becoming GODS!

And that was just the last few chapters of ONE BOOK!!!

Come to think of it, The Dresden Files is Shadowrun in the Modern Day... And, as usual, he doesn't get paid.

Well, except for the flaming monkey poo incident.
Neraph
Hey, he got paid in the first book. And he ended up getting a stipend from the Wardens.
CanRay
Yes, but Flaming Monkey Poo paid him more than saving the world. nyahnyah.gif
