Spring is taking the truck (with the van Sprogget bought) he and Sprogget came in back to Mechanicals, then hops onto his scooter for the ride to Bellevue.

Tweak and Alpha take a Stepvan (the escape van) from Freedom to Bellevue.

IIRC, Sprogget took the monocycle (he also had in the back of the truck) to first pick up a tag eraser (plus other stuff) and get it to Angelo in Redmond. To prolly head to Bellevue from there.

I'm here. Thanksgiving took up last week, and Scrapheap's kinda useless talking Matrix security so I've just had him sit back and let everyone else argue. He'll just ride along in the stepvan, keeping out of sight to avoid any "driving while trog" issues with KE. Kinda painted myself into a corner with this character, I think.

Working on rolls and a post for Alex, notsoevildm.

Rolls for Alex and Gabriel (commlink Agent)

Since invisiblecastle seems borked, I'm using Rolz.org for dice rolls. Not as handy, but interesting.

5 Detect Hacking - Firewall 5, Analyze 4
1. [ 1; 3; 5; 1; 4; 5; 1; 4; 2; => 2 success(es) against 5 ] = 2 hits

5 Resistance rolls for Gabriel - System 4, Armor 0...mayhap an illicit purchase is in order if the 'link doesn't get smoked.
1. [ 5; 6; 4; 2; => 2 success(es) against 5 ] = 2 hits
2. [ 1; 6; 3; 2; => 1 success(es) against 5 ] = 1 hits

5. [ 1; 6; 6; 3; => 2 success(es) against 5 ] = 2 hits

Body 3 + Will 3 for Alex
1. [ 5; 1; 1; 4; 2; 6; => 2 success(es) against 5 ] = 2 hits...and almost a glitch. Whew.

@Virtual Scream/all
Posts up for Cat, Gossamer and Cipher. Everyone is now in combat time so keep posts to roughly to a single pass worth of actions and support with appropriate rolls.

I will start on the replies to those already in combat time hopefully tomorrow.

@karhig/Cat: I assume Cat will attempt to log off the node. I need a few Computer+System tests to see if she succeeds before even more BAD STUFF happens.

@ChromeZephyr/Alex: Still need a Bod + Will test for Alex against the sonic attack.

@Aria/Gossamer: Gossamer suspects that her home node is being hacked. I need rolls to detect hacking both for Gossamer's native form and also for the home node. I will also need some defence and resistance rolls for Gossamer if she decides to try and make it back home. If she chooses to stay in the Citadel, she believes that its firewall will protect her although she knows she will be trapped there until after the emergency maintenance. Decisions, decisions.

@mister_j/Cipher: Cipher feels like data from the giant icon is being forced into his brain. It hurts, quite a lot. 3 boxes of stun damage hurt to be exact.

Oops, posted my wall of text after yours. Got it.
Alex currently has a 3 dice penalty to all actions while affected by the 'scream'. He can make another audio perception test to identify the source adding 3 dice back in if he takes a simple action to 'actively listen'.
ChromeZephyr
Allrightythen, here we go.

Free action: stand up
Simple Action: Actively Listening.

Intuition 4 + Perception 3 + Enhanced Perception 2 + Actively Listening 3 - Painful sound 3

Ok guys last posts left me a bit confused, where is everyone heading and in which vehicles?

Nightfalke - Alpha Apex: Heading to Mechanicals home with Spring and Tweak then to Bellevue in?

Heading to Bellevue in some form of transportation that does not leave Alpha hanging onto Spring's waist on a scooter. So I was assuming that was the step van.
Machine Ghost
Was busy building massive IC posts. So catching up ...

Sprogget went from Freedom home to Mechcanicals complex in a Horizon-Doble Revolution (Enclosed Monocycle) that was in drone mode, acting as a trailing scout, while driving the truck that Spring is taking home, where he will pick up his own scooter.
He is expecting that Jazz will be stopping by shortly on her Yamaha Rapier [old tech racing bike? no RAW reference found] to pick up the package of stuff that Angelo needs to get to Morgan {or LeFey, since Alpha finally mentioned the name in the post just before Sprogget boosted out}

Sprogett's next bit, soon as the package is on the way, is to 'craft' a custom sprite to send to Morgan, to help her
a) inventory the tags using her commlink
b) use the 'breakout' gear when Angelo arrives with it

After passing the sprite, plus the sim file, and talking briefly about jammer effects, and trying to 'soothe' Morgan a bit, he is planning on using the monocycle to head for Belevue, hopefully catching up to and 'convoying' with the van for awhile, and with Spring on the scoot too. He plans to peal off early though, since he see no reason to park on LeFey's doorstep, until the 'birthday cake' has been delivered, and Morgan has had a chance to do what she can. Or until it get late enough that they need to move directly. Find a place to 'stand by' and do what he can to assist LeFey remotely with the gear.

Oh and eating that supper 'mom' provided.

@Scrapheap, you better make sure Alpha and Tweak know your plans, or they will leave without you smile.gif

@mister_j/Cipher: I am afraid that it is going to hurt.
If you haven't already rolled a general (or matrix) perception test, a separate audio perception test, a reaction test and detect hacking tests (x5) then you can do so while you wait. If your character has an agent running on their link(s), you can also roll five defence and resistance tests for the agent. And last but not least, a composure test (Will + Cha) - yes it is that bad!

I'm in Canada, but know some from the States. Varies 'today'. 'better' highrise could have a mini mall on the ground floor. 'middle' single family might have a small mall close by, or neighborhood restaurant/pub. 'higher' tends push 'commercial' enterprises further out. Of course, the edge of higher might just be a sound barrier wall away from a main road, with a mall across the street. Morgan did 'say' not gated, so could go pretty much any way wanted.

Sorry, I must have missed that one. On the face of it he looks fine...I'm guessing you don't have access to all the nifty stuff in UW or AR as most of this seems to be core book (I could be wrong?!?)... he certainly fits with the 'low power ish' setting. You might want to squeeze your nuyen pot for a gasbag drone and perhaps a flyspy or something similar for their surveillance potential.
Dakka Fiend
Yup, it's all BBB as I only have that and Street Magic. Magical characters are almost a must for me in any setting that has them and fiddling over gear is really not something I like. Knife, wword, big sword (might include halberds) is about my preferred level of details. wink.gif
Of course somewhere I still got my notes for FFBA, PPP and cyberlimb customization. Low-encumbrance armor and augmented-max agility in one arm are just too nice to ignore. biggrin.gif

I considered going with a flying drone or two but felt 50k was pushing it anyway for a Barrens kid. I still have to do Knowledge Skills and Contacts anyway, so maybe I'll give him his flying Army of DOOM eyes.

I just looked it up on google and the shortest drive from Mechanicals/Freedom to the middle of Bellevue (is there an address I missed?) is about 56 kilometers (35 miles). Doing top speed with no annoying traffic (yeah, right), this gives about 47 minutes minimum travel time for Spring's Scoot (Speed 60 = 72 km/h) and about 31 minutes for the GMC Bulldog Step Van from the BBB (Speed 90 = 108 km/h).

Mobile hazards (a.k.a. other vehicles) and speed limits may apply, although a quick search gives 60 mph for urban interstates in Washington (State) today, which is about 97 km/h, so the step van shouldn't be affected much and the scooter not at all.

They may be some chatter about something strange going on, yes. Rumours of nodes mysteriously dropping out, weird sounds and icons being heard/seen on the matrix, hackers dropping off the grid. Allegedly, someone even crashed the Citadel. Whatever is going on, those in know are calling it the '>1rtu@l5cr3@m'.
And who knows, you may still get to witness parts of it up close and personal. But I wouldn't know anything about that, no sirree! biggrin.gif

Is Alex going to be able to hard shutdown his commlink? And if so, can he restart it in what amounts to be "Safe Mode", i.e. no communicating, but able to boot up so he can see if anything is fragged, and if Gabriel is still intact. He has Computer 2, so I'd think that's something he could do. He wouldn't be able to fix anything, but he can at least survey the damage.

From Runner's Companion: It may also make connections and create icons in other nodes as a normal Matrix user, but it exists in a single node at any given time. An AI may, as a Complex Action, move to another node to which it has an open subscription and on which it has admin access privileges.

So the bad news is that she only exists in one node at a time. The good news is that it only takes a complex action to move from the Citadel to Drone body if she chooses to go that way. So only the first defence/resistance test is needed and then she would be home.

EDIT: Just re-read the RC text and realised I had it interpreted it completely wrong. She 'exists' in the drone node like a hacker's brain is in his body. But she can actually move her 'brain' to other nodes. So her 'brain' is still in the drone and she also currently has active icons in all three other nodes (Citadel, Argent's home and Argent's 'office'). Argh, the matrix hurts my brain!!!

The bad news is that all four nodes are being hacked by '>1rtu@l5cr3@m'. The good news is that she can just log out of the other three (if she wishes) without getting her 'brain' fried.

The bikes with better handling can get past some of that. Glyph should be 'critical path' on that, cause she needs to get to Angelo, then Angelo the rest of the way, then give Morgan a bit of time with the supplied gear. At least Renton is right on the way. The rest have a bit more time.

Google maps {car driving directions} says from
Meridian Ave E, Puyallup, WA, United States and 43 ave se {Mechanicals Complex}
to
Bel Red Road, Bellevue, WA, United States and 148 ave se {middle Bellevue}

is 34.2 to 40.3 miles, 40 to 46 minutes (46 to 51 in 'current' rush hour traffic when I happened to check), using combinations of I-5, I-405, WA-167

BTW, google maps allows saving the route, with or without manual adjustments, to 'my maps', so we could add it to the 2072 map if we wanted to. If had better details about real end location

Yay, invisiblecastle is back! Anyone know what happened? Wait, notsoevildm, did your plotline get out of hand and crash it? I'm on to you!

My vote is for the soiling oneself. It's quite liberating. grinbig.gif

I forget where I heard this, but recently I learned that in times of extreme fear, it's normal to crap oneself, as this is the body's way of getting rid of excess "baggage" in preparation for fight/flight. Frees up blood being used in digestion to make it available for muscles etc. More common than peeing oneself, supposedly.

Not sure why I find this so interesting, but there you go...

Shutting down is System + Response (threshold 10, 1 combat round) so yes he can but will take a little time especially as he still has 3 dice penalty as long as the music player is screaming

Questions:
Was the connection terminated Cat successfully shutting down her commlink or something more sinister?
Do you wish me to continue with Cat's storyline or wait for everyone else to resolve?
Where and when was the party? What's the dress code? Since she thinks it's a furry club, she's going to do some research into the club to find out if that's compulsory or not. Hopefully she'll discover her earlier mistake ^^

There may be more attacks coming. You can make the rolls if you wish or just trust me to roll for you! ork.gif
However, Cipher does get to do something first. This could include wetting himself or having a religious experience, but I'll leave that up to you.

If you're happy to do the rolls (rolling dice on your desk or whatever) then I'm more than happy to go this way. My matrix rules-fu isn't great so it'd save me time, I trust you to do it (though as GM, trust doesn't really matter anyway. You're the arbiter), and it'll allow me to do fluffy description-like stuff without wondering what it is I actually need to be rolling.

If that isn't too much work for you, of course.

Cat successully logged off the node. It just took longer than she would have liked. Her commlink is playing up though. It is running very slowly and there are several new icons on your desktop: opera glasses, invitation, business card, purse and one that looks disturbingly like a twitching liver. Feel free to continue with storyline.

The Looking Glass (credit to Buddha72 for this one) is a surged club mainly freguented by the weird and wonderful. Indeed pretty much anything goes but it is not solely a fetish club so 'normal' party gear is perfectly appropriate.

Visual Perception on the van, checking for obvious problems.

Intuition (4) + Perception (1) + Vision Enhancement (3) + Threading Sustain (-2) = 6d6.hits(5) → [2,6,5,2,5,4] = (3)

Compiling a Rating 6 Paladin Sprite

Resonance (6) + Compiling (4) + Paragon (1) + Threading Sustain (-2) + Hot Sim (2) = 11d6.hits(5) → [4,6,2,5,3,3,1,5,5,4,2] = (4)

Sprite Resistance = 6d6.hits(5) → [5,4,5,2,4,2] = (2)

2 net hits = 2 tasks
Additional CFs = Attack, Blackout

Fading Resist vs 4 damage = Charisma (5) + Resonance (6) + Threading Sustain (-2) = 9d6.hits(5) → [5,5,2,2,2,6,2,6,1] = (4) No damage. (WOOT!)

Right…err, ok, I think that ties with my thoughts. So she’s a matrix user in terms of subscriptions but can physically go on a jaunt leaving her node behind (although why she’d want to…?!?)

I know you said keep actions to 1IP (or was that 1 round??? I'm writing this without checking nyahnyah.gif) but Gossamer will perform an 'observe in detail' and a log off (both simple actions) in each of her 3IPs as she leaves the Citadel, then Shadowland and then Argent's CHN. That leaves her in her home node, sadly I won't be able to get an armour program online until the next IP frown.gif

Hopefully the rolls I've already done are sufficient but I'm happy for you to roll if that makes life easier?

What is the distance from the mall to the closest point where someone could access the LTG? Are there other nodes in the Mall area that are supplying an outside matrix feed?

Well you can 'see' the LTG from miles outside Seattle - whether you can interact with it depends on your own signal. The mesh coverage is sufficiently spotty around here that Freedom cutting their link will plunge the area into 'darkness' but you wouldn't have to go far (Puyallup City) to pick up a full link again.

Signal table p222 SR4a

Signal Range Examples
0 3 m Nanoware transceivers, cyberware, intra-PAN devices
1 40 m RFID tags, handheld electronics
2 100 m Headware transceivers, micro-drone sensors
3 400 m
Average commlinks, residential/small business wi-fi
routers, vehicular autonav sensors
4 1 km Crawler-drone sensors
5 4 km
Cyberlimb transceivers, heavy drone surveillance
sensors
6 10 km Cell-phone towers, public access wi-fi routers
7 40 km
Targeting sensors for ground vehicle weapons
(ATGMs, tank guns, etc.)
8 100 km Flight radar, dedicated ground surveillance radar
9 400 km Maritime/naval radar, commercial AM/FM radio

System 4 + Response 4 - Painful noise 3 = 5 dice
5d6.hits(5)=3
5d6.hits(5)=1
5d6.hits(5)=1
5d6.hits(5)=2
5d6.hits(5)=2
5d6.hits(5)=0
5d6.hits(5)=4

So, 7 combat turns, roughly a minute and half in real time, yes? Which to Matrix users is a frickin' eternity but to Alex using his AR and pressing buttons manually on the 'link is merely irritating. I'll have him shut it down and reboot with the comms off to survey the damage in my next IC post.

She can switch her 'brain' to another node she has admin access to. Why? Well, maybe to upgrage to a better one or if her current node was being offlined/destroyed.

Existing rolls will be enough for now. I will let you know if I need more. The good news is this approach means she has taken no damage yet and has made it back to Bee in time to see what is going on.
