Marry chrismess everyone (The silly smily is the closest I could come to a santa hat)! I´ll probably find time to IC somewhere between family-suff, since there won´t be much else to do over the hollydays. Didn´t get done with it yesterday, since my bro rented a dvd - 'Klick' was a nice movie (for my taste at least - which is quiet broad). Even if you don´t like Adam Sandler, it might be worth a look from the SR-angle for another wifi-impression.
MK Ultra
Ok, put your interrupt anywhere you like, Adam, shop, safe-house or on the way. I´ll pick up after that.

For the data-taps in the GZ system:
Intercept Traffic (p. 224) Matrix Perception (p. 217) in the respective Node, TH (my hits on Hacking + Sniffer. Prepaired 4 rolls with 2, 4, 4 and 2 respectively). The Datataps will be placed in the Camera nodes, not the main system node and should write a copy of the recordings into a hidden file that I can collect upon revisiting.

[ Spoiler ]

I´ll put a detailed list of the coms modifications on the wiki later this week.

The datasearches mentioned will be about:
-Tatooshops in Seattle (espechialy those for custom work or specialized on the style/motives on the bad guy´s arms)
-lost people around GZ & Biltmore Hotel
-sm- & sex-slave trade
-sm- & snuff-sims & -btls

happy hollydays again

Merry Christmas everyone.

At the moment, I have not even had a chance to catch up on reading the threads. And I have unanswered PMs.
Just saying happy holidays and that I'm not ignoring anyone. Will get responses up as soon as time allows.
adamu
MJ and Vegas - your most recent IC ends with looking for Carla in the church. It is very easy to find her, as the entrance to the infirmary is not at all secret - it is clearly marked, easy to find, and there will be people coming and going. If you go down the stairs, you'll find her there.

MK - I need to do an IC for you - hopefully I will get it done soon. Once that is done, I will need your rolls for the matrix searches - so anytime you feel like putting those up is fine.
MK Ultra
Unless you specifically want me to do the rolls, I´d buy hits for the datasearches. That would be (Datasearch 6 + Brows 5 = 11)/4 = 2 hits per minute, max. 22 hits in 11 minutes. So in roughly half an hour, while I´m doing the hardware stuff, all three searches should be done.

BTW, Iwondered if I could do a regular technical service check up on the coms. I thought that couldn´t take very long and wanted to do it as a bonus.
I´m also interested to know what ratings and software those coms are carrying, so I know what they are capable of.
Lastly, I want to draw a full back-up of everything on the coms, without having it show up on the logs. I won´t even look at the data, I just want to have it, in case my teammates need it in the future - or they betray me and I need it to get back at them.

Eagerly awaiting your IC - though I´m a bit worried what it would be about. Say nothing, I like surprises biggrin.gif

Out of curiosity, MJ, what does "chucker" mean?
Mister Juan

Hey adamu, is it 2008 in Japan yet?
MK Ultra
Happy New Year Everyone!
adamu
Okay - just got back from vacation. Tired, sick, everything's a mess, and I have to go back to the office tomorrow. Will get things back up to speed as soon as I can - maybe tonight...maybe not.

Thank you for your patience.

@BR - it's New Year in Japan before it's New Year anywhere else! Just over the date line and all that.
MK Ultra
Good to hear youre back smile.gif

I guess he knew, since he posted before dumpshock forums where in 2008
BlueRondo
And to be fair, I believe the new year arrives in New Zealand before Japan.
MK Ultra
That´s right, along with the a couple of islands they are the first, 3 hours ahead of japan - I had to check that. Looks like Funafuti of Tuvalu is the most futuristic capitol in the world, so to speak. Makes you wonder, why Fanpro decided for Seattle as the default setting nyahnyah.gif
BlueRondo
Woo. The Iowa caucus results are in, and the respective winners for the Republican and Democratic parties are Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama. I'm very pleased with the results in both parties.

Sorry, I just had to share that.

The data taps appear to have been successfully placed.

Most of your data searches are very very broad. With 22 hits, you can get encyclopedias of information, which I would be happy to break down for you with all those hits, but I need more specific parameters.

You get an exhaustive list of all the licensed tattoo parlors in Seattle, and very many unlicensed ones, along with reams of chat about quality, which artists will work for sex or drugs or music lessons, which are secretly (or openly) corporate affilitated, and all that. You even get lots of rumors about tattoo artists that work exclusively for the yakuza, or some that do magical tattoo work.
The tats on the guy's arms in the video you have seem pretty common. But with 22 hits you can get pretty analytical, and based on matrix-published work samples of different artists, your search program compiles a list of 27 tattoo parlors where the work is more likely to have been done. The list is ranked from most to least likely.

The only mention anywhere on the matrix about a lost person near GZ or the Biltmore is a few quick bits of matrix chatter from this evening while you were in the club. It looks like you are merely getting blowback from when Trixie was trying to find Esmeralda for Carla, and then when Frosty was trying to figure out what was up after that. All the inquiries stop about the time you and Conall got the data and took off. Oh, and there are some other inquiries about other club goers from this evening, but those are clearing up as people resurface. By the time you wake up from your nap, anyone that anyone is looking for has been found.

Your other two searches are very broad. I really don't know what you are looking for, so all I can tell you is that you find a lot of open and also a lot of underground sites discussing or offering services in both areas. You also find a few pix of the artistes from the club - enough to track down the whole group. You can get sleazy profiles on all of them - all European, all into the darkest of snuff and pain porn production. You also find sites offering their work, but none of that is public - you will need to hack it or pay for it.

Yes, you can do a service check. All the comms appear to be in good working order, and you don't find anything suspicious like bugs or spyware.

MJ, BR, and Vegas - could you please post for MK the ratings and software loads of you comms, at least anything that is not already available on the Wiki? Thanks - saves me a lot of trouble.

MK Ultra - okay, assume you've now got copies of all the files on all the comms you worked on. But since you say Krait isn't going to look at it, there is no need for us to go into exactly what content everyone had on their comms.

Anyway, the IC is up, so you are free to act. We have already posted you going ahead and delivering the comms. If you want to have passed on any information, that is fine - maybe you could call people now, in their time, and tell them about files you left on their comms for their information? Whatever.

So you are free to either join the other team members or do your own thing.

Vegas
Krait never got his hands on Etain's commlink so he shouldn't have data from hers.

As for ratings, if he's done scans to learn them I'll be happy to give them (I honestly can't remember) and if not... then she's still a mystery nyahnyah.gif
BlueRondo
Carla has a standard Hermes Ikon with Novatech Navi OS. 4/3/3/4. No additional programs/software.

Sorry - I thought it was clear I was only talking about the comms that were given to Krait to upgrade.

I will admit that to a large degree I rely on MK to keep track of the exact details of his zillions of precautions and side projects (all of which I see as good things). But to my understanding, although he did not take Etain's comm, he did modify someone's comm that was intended for her use.

Could someone straighten me out on who has which ones? And especially, Vegas i will need to rely on you to tell me whenever you are using a comm NOT secured by Krait.
MK Ultra
Working on an IC.

About the sm/snuff/slave datasearches, I was poking in the dark a bit, so it´s no wonder you don´t really know what I was looking for. More specifically, I´d be looking for custom work. I didn´t expect to to get very much out of it - just getting an overview of what´s going on in this field in Seattle. Starting to feel a bit like Nick Cage in 8 mm nyahnyah.gif

Once John wakes up, I´d like to do a search on "the gray world" and "the gray door". I expect this to just turn up fluff, which I can find on google and wikipedia myself, so you don´t need to give me anything, unless you want me to find something specific.
adamu
Search on gray world/door --- yeah, whatever you want to make up or pull off of RL Google is fine. You won't find anything specific from me.

For 8mm stuff - the combination of your successes and your ability to absorb and retain the huge amounts of data means that you have compiled a R2 reference work on the Seattle "dark sex" scene, which you can add as complementary dice to relevant tests. Of course, the really ugly secrets are not readily available through searches of public databases....

I was just on the wiki looking for the summary of what you did to the comms. Not sure what page you put it on, or whether it is done yet. When it is done, could you let me know where on the wiki to look for it, please? And, as mentioned above, the basic idea of who is carrying/using which of the modified comms? Thanks.
MK Ultra
I proposed to modify the Airware Com I snatched from the artist-shedim for Etain, once I have hacked into it and extracted any paydata, but I told her that it would take some time. Until then, she dos not have a com I have done anything with. She will get a datachip with frequencies and encryption-keys for emergancies (as will everyone), but that should only see use when the paterns put on Conall´s & Carla´s (and later the scavanged zombie) Com are compromized. I´ll give instructions on how and when to use the whole stuff in my IC.

Mister Juan I still need your comlinks ratings and programm-list. (need to know which utilities I need to crack for you - hope it´s less then the software Carla´s com is lacking nyahnyah.gif ).
MK Ultra
Wiki stuff isn´t up yet. I will do it when the IC is ready, because I want to put the same information in there, as well.
MK Ultra
Wanted to send you a PM regarding Fake Licenses, but PM isn´t working correctly for me, so I´ll just post here.

I had 3 Licenses: Pistol, 1 Implant and Hacking License. The last one is a multi-item License, since it´s for all hacking utilities, even though I only payed regular cred for it. If you want we could make it a Technical Security License for multiple items, as per the new rules on the wiki, and drop the two other licenses, to compensate for the higher cost. (I don´t even have a gun for the gun-license yet, and the bioware can´t be detected without through medical examination, so it´s no big deal to lose them). I think that would be most fair for everyone. The only thing I´d get for free is 4 points of availability, which would be ~1 extra day of search (I did buy the hacker License after gamestart).
MK Ultra
There is now a new Link named 'Network' on the wiki homepage. I just copied the note from the IC in there for now. Should make a more clearand stylish layout in time.

EDIT:

Hey, Vegas (or whoever knows), there used to be a weather-page on the wiki (I think Konsaki established it), which I thought was a great idea. Now I just wanted to put on 'windy' for May, 16th 2050 in Boston (realy important information, I know nyahnyah.gif) and noticed that it isn´t there anymore frown.gif
adamu
@MK Ultra - your idea for bringing your license in line with the new rules sounds good - everything will have can fit under the blanket license, with the availability you listed.
Don't worry about the extra search day. Past history.

All the diagnostics that you did on your sim module, software, etc. come up clear, no problems.
MK Ultra
Cool. Would that License also cover Signalscanner and similar security sensors?
adamu
Yes.
Mister Juan
Conall is still running with his cheap knockoff he bought at Sea-Tac.
So that would be a Meta Link with Vector Xim.
adamu
Okay, at this point looks like the ball is fully in y'all's court. Just waiting on people to start/continue acting.

Let me know if you need anything (or if you are waiting on something that I forgot to answer).
Vegas
I'm trying to write up a post for Etain and Conall hitting the pavement scouting out the tattoo parlours and the like in various locations. Sorry it's taking a bit longer than usual.
Vegas
MK

Possibly a silly request but if you're posting IC info in comm messages or whatever, can you pretty pretty please choose a colour other than red? Red against the dark grey makes my migraines kick in like mad. Just something legible/readable like keeping all comm stuff yellow for in-time and maybe orange for messages or something?

My brain and my eyes thank you profusely.

Post is coming up shortly, I hope.
BlueRondo
Yes, the red is rather harsh on the eyes.
Vegas
Various "fluff" rolls for Fashion/Makeover for the twins

[ Spoiler ]

MK Ultra
Not at all a silly request! I wondered if I should better use another color that´d be more comfortable, myself, after posting the last IC.
adamu
Sometimes it helps to highlight the hard-to-read-colored text....

@Vegas -

Spells look great - I will assume you achieve exactly the "look" you are shooting for.

Now that I have an IC of your initial approach style, I can apply that to the next scene.

For which I will need the following -

Con test since you are lying about why you are interested.

Etiquette test to prove you really do fit into the tattoo scene.

And might as well go ahead with a Negotiation test for in case you get into a situation where someone wants compensated for information.

What I am going to do is make an IC post synopsizing your working your way down Krait's list until you get to THE parlor. But to get the other person's reaction at that parlor, I will need those rolls.

Edit - even if Conall doesn't talk, he'll need an Etiquette roll as well (although since he's not talking, his threshhold will be lower).
Vegas
Not a problem... Here's the rolls *Crosses fingers*

Con:
Charisma (5) + Con (3) + Psychology(Manipulation) / 2 (2) = 10 dice
[5] 4 4 2 2 [5] 1 [5] [5] [5] Hits:5

Etiquette:
Charisma (5) + Etiquette (3) = 8 dice
1 3 [6] 2 [5] 3 2 [6] Hits:3

Negotiation:
Charisma (5) + Negotiation (3) + Moon Maiden Bonus (2) = 10 dice
1 3 [6] [5] 3 [6] [6] 1 [6] 3 Hits:5

I'm leaving it up to MJ to post his roll for Conall biggrin.gif
MK Ultra
Maybe Conall will have an easyer time with that Etiquette test because he really has some interest for Tatoos.

So for my stuff:
So, Matrix Perception (p. 217) (2 Actions, buying 3 hits each with Computer+Analyze (12)) to gain artist´s Airware commlink´s System & Firewall (Standard R/S would be 3/3), Alert Status and if there´s a Databomb mining the whold node.
Then Probing for Admin Access (p. 221, Hacking+Exploit (9) TH System+Firewall+6 (?) Interval 1 hour, buying 2 hits per hour for a maximum of 9 hours), starting ~ at 1000, I should be done at 1900 if it´s a tough cooky pimped up commlink, otherwise a few hours earlyer.

Using Multitasking, I want to finish pirating Sniffer III (Logic+Software+Copy-Protection/2 (10) TH 17, 1 hour) I have accumulated 12 hits the day before, buying 2 hits per hour I´d normaly need 3 hours. Since I´m working Multitasking, which has been 50% effective work-time for the secondary task, I could be done with the crack after 6 hours, at ~ 1600 o´clock.

I will decide when and how to access the com, once I am done with the preparations.

EDIT: Oh sorry, I think I mixed up the way we aplyed the Multitasking to extended tests. I think it was supposed to give me extra workhours per day, by working while performing trivial stuff like workout, showering, reading and eating, not by handling two game-mechanical extended tasks at the same time (which would make the ability a bit more powerfull then I guess it´s intended to be by the rules). I shell probably edit my IC and postpone the programming, unless you rule that it works the way I thought at first, because the Agent is really doing all the hacking, while it has nothing to do with the software-piracy.
Unless you say otherwise I will edit the IC once you decided on the commlink ratings and the others proceded a bit further IC, so I can do my next IC as well, without getting too much ahead of them.
MK Ultra
Just thought I´d say that I´m online, if you have any imediate questions, I could answer dem on the spot.
adamu
And I appreciate that very much, MK. I almost always am glad to be online at the same time as players, cuz it can speed up the geologic pace of forums games immensely.

And tonight I was planning big bumps on both threads. But I am afraid I got a bit carried away in the games I'm a player in, and now the hour is late.

So apologies all around. I will be with you guys within 24.
adamu
@MK Ultra

The Airware's ratings are standard, so you should have the exploit up to admin access within six hours of your start time, if I am calculating that correctly (3 + 3 + 6 = 12 hits at two hits/hour).

The time stamp on your post is noon - is that when you intend to start, which would mean your agent achieves the exploit at 1800?

Anyway, your second interpretation of my mulitasking ruling is correct - it doesn't let you do two primary tasks at the same time, it gives the extra work hours per day, as your edit said.
But I do agree that simply monitoring the agent can be considered a sort of background task, so you can go ahead and work on the Sniffer crack.

So when you get time, why don't you put up an IC post indicating that you finished those tasks. That way I will have a timestamp for your finishing time, because you are right, I would prefer you not race too far ahead of the others.
(there is a lot of "opting out" of the action on this team, which is fine, whatever, but I hope to at least keep times somewhat in sync so that people always have the option of jumping in).

Once you have the exploit, the actual hack only takes seconds in game time. And it is not a big deal - you have the comm isolated and its owner is dead. There is no IC. And it is not a major plot point. So there is no need to go through a lot of dice rolling.
You find a number of files which, from the graphics, appear to be about snuff porn. They are all in German, which Krait does not read (ironic).
And there is some snuff port itself.
Without reading the files it is hard to tell the value.
Your recent research into underground sex tells you that the snuff porn footage (very raw, unproduced) could be worth thousands IF it has not already been marketed and IF you choose to sell it - it is some pretty ugly stuff, involving living dismemberment during rape, pleading, vomiting from shock, and death. Definitely looks unwilling. The other people you see in those clips are all now dead in the shedim attack at GZ.

But nowhere do you find any mention of Esmeralda.

I´m allways trying to set the timestamp (and location, etc.) to represent where I am at the end of the post (though sometimes I forget to do so).

The last IC was intended to end ~ 2 hours after starting the work (sortly after the end of the previous post, which was 10:08).

Going to do an IC asap.

How long would it take aproximately, to review all the snuff-tapes (only judging from the length of the feeds, not accounting for brakes to hang my head over the toilet). I don´t want to do that right away -only getting a peak into it- but I might do so later in the hope of finding some picture of Esmeralda.
adamu
I went ahead and rolled Conall's (default) etiquette test, and he made it, as long as he doesn't speak - I don't think he could hide his disgust at these places!

Here's Ricky

Ricky

Ricky's style = the style of the work on the arms of the guy in the video

Ricky's work

You'll have to click on "who" and then go to Ricky's section to see his samples - they are very representative of the work on the bald guy with the red goatee and eyebrows.

Next step depends on your role-play and any tests you want to make.
MK Ultra
Looks like Ricky could use a re-do of his tats, they seem very pale nyahnyah.gif

Anyway, I forgot to ask, what would it cost to rent a linguasoft per day or per hour? Standard price is 500 per level and for the electronics shop we made it 10% per month, but usually renting software costs more then renting hardware I guess, so maybe 5% a week or 1% a day, something like that? Also, how long would it aproximately take to read all the german stuff on the com?
Is there any contact data/organizer/comcodes/adress book stuff that would be usefull without german language knowledge, i.e. by changing system language of the com to english?
adamu
Rental of legal software is 10% per week.

For John, reading all the file would take no more than a couple of hours - he could even just LOOK at it, and then read it in his mind later!

There are some basic organizer utilities you could toggle over to English, but this guy wasn't very careful with all that. Anyway, all his address book counts as in game terms is X amount of nuyen in paydata.
MK Ultra
So, what would be the price per day? 10% of Rating * 500 nuyen.gif is still too much for me at the moment, to rent a Linguasoft for a whole week. Would 2 % per day be ok? I don´t want to copy the software and we could asume that it´s not possible (at least without lengthy preparations and special software), because it would be running the whole time -not posible to work on copyprotection while it does under our rules- and deleats automatically once it is shut down or the time is up.
adamu
Sure, 2% per day, or even 1% per half-day is fine. It is more like simply paying to access a translation service's node, with security cut-outs to ensure the security of your own files.
BlueRondo

I'm glad you approve.

I actually was quite tempted to make him an ork - just tell everyone to add a fanged underbite and point the ears - but I wanted a human for this scene.
MK Ultra
Yea, thought he´d be an ork before the IC was up, too nyahnyah.gif

What are security cut-outs?
adamu
Oh, of course I am too ignorant about computers to have any idea of what the REAL terminology would be. But what I mean is, you can pay to access translation softs online, but there are mechanisms to isolate your content from the software provider, so that they never have any way of knowing what you are translating.

Of course, nothing is 100% hackproof, but most users consider it a safe and reliable privacy/security measure.
