Kliko
I'm not sure...

I basically upgraded some of Kliko's secondary/tertiary skills used in the last adventure (motorboating, bargaining). I'm thinking of putting some karma in parachuting (upto three ranks or so) and heavy weapons after our next adventure.

The team is ok in the B&E department (looking at Ludi). We've got sufficient (heavy) firepower (Bubba and Kliko). Decent enough social skills (Ludi and Kliko). Felix (shaman) and Jamie (decker) are up for recruitment.

What we really need is more forward reconnaisance, but I understood one of the guys in-line for the game is looking at a rigger (covering that particular base) type of character.
ntwi
Felix can certainly do Astral Recon to help with that process, and Jamie should be able to hack into security cameras through the matrix for forward recon and overwatch as well.
Mister Juan
I agree that getting a decent level of parachuting had been on my list of priorities. I would have suggested one of us to train as an aircraft pilot, but if we have a rigger in the pipe, then we could skip that.

I don't have Ludi's sheet in front of me, and I don't even remember what skills she has and at what level. When I do finally get home (not before thursday...) I'll have a clearer picture.

Which all makes me think; Bastard, do we only acquire contacts IN GAME, or can we "purchase" some between runs?
Bastard
Probably in game... but you can use your fixers to attain the services of their contacts.
SneakyJoeKDB
Peace my brothers! I will be moving into my permanent home over the weekend, will not likely be available until Monday, will keep you posted.

Bubba is poised to build up his mad sneaking skills and maybe 3 points of edge( which he is owed) in pain tolerance. Any other dumb meat shield suggestions?
Mister Juan
@Bastard
If I was to, lets say, make an etiquette roll, and pay the correct amount of cred (something like 5000 for a lv1 contact I think?) would Ludi be allowed to add some contacts to her roster? I mean, I'd still rp it, I'm just curious nyahnyah.gif

Also, am I free to invent what side project Ludi is currently off working on?

@Everyone else.
After our little stint in the jungle, I agree with Kliko's unspoken idea that we're going to need some badass callsigns.
Mister Juan
Alright! I found Ludi's character sheet!
I'll update in a few with what I think I might add. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to do so.
Kliko
A knowsoft link nyahnyah.gif to be able to use those damn linguasofts...
Mister Juan
Cybeware wise, it's probably going to be 2 additional datajack, a chipjack, a transducer and a knowsoftlink.
Kliko
Check, an external transducer... that was on my shopping list as well... :=-s
Bastard
The Recruitment threads have been moved to the main threads.

Please make all posts from this point in the main IC and OoC Evolution threads.

I copied and pasted, made minor detail changes and reorganized the Recruitment 3 IC into three posts in the IC Evolution thread.

Also note, that BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is an electric train that travels along the free ways. BART Schedule what it looks like today in 2010.

We can assume it finally reaches Brentwood, Stockton and Sacramento on the Yellow Line.
San Jose, Monterrey, Santa Clara from both the mainland (Green and Orange) and from the peninsula (Yellow and Red)
North Peninsula on the Red and Orange Line

There is also a bullet train that is supposedly in the work now that is to run from LA to SF, with an optional stop in Bakersfield. Let us assume it is also completed now, and it will be 2-hour to LA from SF on the non-stop, and 2.5 hours on the one-stop (about 1 hour from either point to Bakersfield).

I will be updating the IC tomorrow, after I finish reading over the characters. Also have to bring in Coursair, galenbd's rigger.

Kliko
Bastard, how do you suggest I write the rigger in? Have him show up late or add him through Radek?
Bastard
I was going to try and get him to the meet, but I will push him to you on the next day. That will give me time to go over his character sheet and background.

EDIT
Actually Kliko, can you edit your last post to include a third there? I will write Coursair in right now.

Edited one of my big posts so Coursair is arriving at 2245 at Thunderdome.
Mister Juan
Here is Ludi's shopping list and karma expenditures. I haven't figured out where I'll put the additional karma in the knowledge skills.... I wanted to pour them into something relevant to their last run, but just couldn't make my mind up. Any suggestions?

Cyberware:
Transducer, 3000, 0.1
2x Datajack, 2000, 0.4
Knowsoft Link, 1000, 0.1
Chipjack, 900, 0.2
Total Spent: 6900, 0.8 essence

Gear
WW Infiltrator, 2400
90x Rounds of Hi-C Ammo, 1350 (in sealed 15rds clip)
Armante Venetian Dress, 2625
Armante Ancien Shawl, 562
Autopicker R6, 300
Total Spent: 7237

Lifestyle:
Change from Low to Middle, 5000

Karma:
Parachuting at 3 (8k)
Lock Picking at 2 (4k)
English raised from 2 to 3 (3k)
Total Karma spent: 15

Coursair a dwarf? Just checking for narrative purposes.
Bastard
No, tall and slender.

Something to do with land navigation, boating, jungle survival, French Guiana specific knowledge (hideouts, city, etc)
Kliko
I'll wait for ntwi to respond than edit in Corsair so we can move from this meet to the next with Radek.
Bastard
Kink- edit your post/timestamp as I have already edited you in to the story and at the meet on time. Kliko will be editing his post tomorrow to include Corsair.

Thanks.

Don't forget to bold PC and major NPCs names in the IC.
klinktastic
Sounds good. I'll edit the time stamp once I see the edits go through. Glad to be aboard! grinbig.gif
Kliko
I only edited the timestamps and put Corsair in. Effectively everybody goes through the same routine as Jamie, so no need expand on that.

Lets roll!
Bastard
Hey Kliko, let me know when you are ready for me to bump.
Kliko
*bump*

-EDIT-
Bastard, I also need to get Kliko one of those external transducers. They're legal, within budget @ availability 3/72 hrs.

Yep, no problem. Don't worry about time, as we will assume anything purchased before you have mission details was acquired between now and the previous mission.
Mister Juan
Here are the knowledge skills I'll pick up for Ludi:
Navigation 2 (3k)
Jungle Survival 2 (3k)
Kliko
@Juan: You ever watched the movie "Leon"?

-EDIT-
@Galen: FYI Crew's comm-system consists of rating 4 personal comm-units (8 channels, DNI-equipped, extra datajack port, rating 2 ECCM, rating 2 Encryption/decryption, Effective flux 2).
galenbd
Jamie's got microtransmitter, rating 4 with encryption of 4. I figured she was going to close to the rest of the crew, so ECCM was not as needed. But security was more critical so I bumped the encryption.

EDIT I just realized that level of encryption will reduce my range. I'm going to adjust my IC post.

Galen
Kliko
Did you ever take look at sr3's broadcast encryption rules? Even encryption 1 is enough to make sure your average decryption tiem is approx 5 minutes!
Bastard
The biggest issue with all the sr3 electronic communications is the flux rating and how far you can transmit and receive, especially for riggers.
galenbd
I found it interesting that they included the following:
Broadcast communications may not be recorded and decrypted later.

Otherwise a decker could quickly make an end run around the rules.

Galen
Kliko
@Bastard: Lets move things forward to the meet with Radek. The Clayton Club Saloon is just a staging point to have a late lunch, get together before the meet and hand out the personal comm-systems. The meet-setup is already covered here

@Juan: Feel free to describe the Clayton Club Saloon scene and introduce Ludmilla. Lets get going.
galenbd
I'm ready to move on as well. I'm working on a wrap up post now. I just don't understand what Kliko is saying. Jamie should. This is her area of expertise. As far as I know, a cellular interface you can actually run the Matrix with is costly in time and nuyen.

My commlink should work fine. I can wire it into the deck and it should override the ASIST interface for sound.

I'll just need to be jacked in within range of the meet. I suspect Kliko is trying to shut Jamie in a van, but since I don't have a wireless link, that will not allow me to be connected. I was thinking a nearby coffin motel myself.

Galen
Kliko
it is Jamies field of expertise (Kliko just didn't thought about coffin motels). Both Kliko and Ludi are proficient with electronics.
Mister Juan
Ludi was actually a signal interception specialist in the army, and has a background in electronic engineering as well as codebreaking. So, in a nutshell, she's very good with electronics (both applied and as a B/R skills). If Jamie needs her to, she can probably crack almost anything open to run a dataline tap in.
Mister Juan
Wait up... the place is a saloon style country bar? Ludi is going to KILL Kliko wink.gif
SneakyJoeKDB
Quick update... I am moved in, we are supposed to have internet tomorrow. I have been following the game from what I can on my iphone. I hope to be part of the game by end of week with updated character sheet etc..

And welcome to all the new players it is great to have you!

Clayton Club Saloon Hahaha... Squeal like a pig!
Kliko
lol, I will post somewhere later today. It was the closest establishment I could find on google maps biggrin.gif

Welcome back Sneaky!
galenbd
I'm working on a post to move Jamie up to the meet.

Kliko, should I assume you send the meet location to Jamie shortly after you get it?

Galen
Kliko
Already done. Its a safe presumption that the saloon is in radio range. They might even have a cyberterminal in the back.
galenbd
So I noticed. I missed the post.

Bastard, I'll have the time to do a search test for finding the jackpoint. Do you want me to do the roll, or do you want hand wave it?

Galen
galenbd
Dice rolls for already known tests:

Microtransciver patchwork install
Electronics B/R TN 4
5,6 - 2 successes
Computer B/R TN 4
5,5 - 2 successes

Browse Design
Operational Utility Design: 4 TN 4
4,2,1,1
Jeez, I got the one success I wanted. I sure expected more.

Galen
Mister Juan
I'm really busy this afternoon, but I should have a post up somewhere before midnight.
Kliko
Pas de problem. I feel almost sorry what type of establishement I picked. Anyone of you ever seen this scene?
Bastard
Kliko - One of my favorites!

galenbd - There is not a jack point in the saloon area. While the bar has an old western feel, it has all the amenities of any other bar and up to date technology, so you can safely assume the registers are on a central network, and that there is at least a computer and a jackpoint/matrix access in the back office.

Everyone - If you have to ask if I need a roll, go ahead and make it in the same post. That way if it is needed, it is already done and the thread keeps on moving. Feel free to make your actions based off these rolls, however, be prepared that if the result is not the same as you expected, you may have to go back and edit your post. You will find we do a lot of "editing" as I find it faster for you all to ask for forgiveness than permission. grinbig.gif
galenbd
Ok, so the jackpoint search is probably a standard search test. Target number is 5. I'm trying to keep a low profile, so the becomes a 7.

5,5,5,5,3,3 - 0 successes
Boy did that suck. I have map full of jackpoints of questionable worth.

Like Bastard posted, it looks like nothing in the area of the meet. Dataline tap says it can be accessed remotely. It doesn't mention any other deck HW needed. The radio wireless links describe a more complete network than just one dataline tap. Could Jamie jack in using that tap from the Jeep in the parking lot?

Galen
Bastard
To a wireless network? Is that what it does? What sourcebook and what page is this info on?
galenbd
You arrived at my confusion as well.

This is from the main book, p 290.
Dataline Tap: Spliced into a dataline, the tap will transmit a
copy of any data to a distant receiver—either through the
Matrix or by radio signal (with a Flux Rating equal to the Tap’s
Rating ÷ 4, rounded down).

I'm suspecting it's just a way of watching the decker as the Matrix run occurs.

I think I don't have a good understanding of how a decker would use a dataline tap. I paid 6K for mine. I assumed I might need one when infiltrating a corp facility to create my own jackpoint into the corp network.

Galen
ntwi
For what it's worth, I understood the dataline taps to be a small device you spliced between the fiber optic cable and a legitimate device that could send copies of the data that passed through the device to a third party either via radio or over the matrix. (e.g. hide it behind a wageslaves computer and grab his logins and passwords to his company network) It can also be used as a illegal jackpoint to connect to the matrix system (specifically the local network it connects to, allowing the decker to bypass the big firewalls between secured systems and the outside world).

That was how I understood it at least.
Kliko
Yeah you need:

- transmitting datalinetap (higher rating = better)
- a radio link utility (p 73 Matrix sourcebook);
- radio interface (p 60 Matrix sourcebook) and
- special tranceiver for it to work.

There's more fun to be found at p33 of the matrix sourcebook for wireless links
[ Spoiler ]

But I can imgane there's a coffin motel nearby offering matrix-acces or you can tip the waitress and ask her if you can use the backroom matrix-access.
Mister Juan
Ended up getting back home way too late... I'm now off to work until 5pm. If you guys want to move ahead, please don't wait up for me.
